At least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 injured in Ukraine in July, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission said. The United Nations has reported that civilian deaths in Ukraine have reached their highest level in July since the opening months of Russia’s invasion in 2022. “At least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 injured in Ukraine in July, a 30 percent increase compared with the previous month and a 70 percent increase compared with July 2025,” the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission said in a statement. A new poll from CNN released on Wednesday showed that President Donald Trump’s approval rating had sunk to its lowest level since the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol. According to the poll, 34% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while over half of respondents said they strongly disapprove. Even among Republicans, Trump’s approval had fallen to new lows of 78%, with only 19% saying they were enthusiastic about the rest of his second term. With the ever-widening conflict in the Middle East nearing its sixth month, Americans are continuing to show their disdain for the US-Israeli war on Iran. Roughly two-thirds said Trump’s military policies had worsened economic conditions in the US. Just 25% said the war was worth the financial burden being placed on the country. And only 25% of respondents said Trump had a clear plan for ending the war, down from 40% at the beginning of the conflict in February. The Survation survey puts both at 24% as Nigel Farage’s party loses its consistent lead in the polls and drops three percentage points. Labour has also enjoyed a small boost as it gained five percentage points in the last month following Keir Starmer’s decision to step down as leader and prime minister. The traffic lights at a Lancashire level crossing where a mum was killed when a train hit her car ‘had not been activated’, investigators have revealed. Social worker Kerry Coombes, 33, died on June 25 following the crash in Hoghton, Lancs. Her eight-year-old daughter was also seriously injured in the collision and taken to hospital where she was said to be a ‘critical but stable condition’. Now, it’s emerged that the barriers on the automated crossing on Station Road hadn’t been lowered and an alarm which is meant to alert pedestrians when a train approaches didn’t sound. A preliminary investigation by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch also found that moments before the fatal collision the train, the 7.51am Northern service from Colne to Preston passed through a green signal, allowing it to proceed. MADRID (AP) — Triathlon is taking action to try to boost its popularity, with hopes of bringing it closer to the level of tennis and golf. A new global circuit will debut in 2027 following an alliance between the international federation and private organizers in an attempt to unify the sport that has been historically fragmented and difficult to follow because of the large number of events worldwide. Officials are hoping the new tour will promote mass-participation events, attract new audiences and enhance the broadcast and digital storytelling of triathlon. There will be greater investment aimed at making the sport a better product for television and easier to showcase on social media in order to land bigger sponsors. The formal announcement of the new tour is expected by the end of the month. “Our goal is for the sport to be attractive not only for triathlon fans but to be attractive for sport fans.
