Lévy Gorvy Dayan Launches LGD Hammer Sales Platform

Lévy Gorvy Dayan Launches LGD Hammer Sales Platform

Lévy Gorvy Dayan is rolling out a new way to sell high-value art, though gallery cofounder Brett Gorvy is quick to lower the temperature on the idea. The gallery’s new platform, LGD Hammer, isn’t meant to remake the market. “We aren’t inventing a new paradigm, but it is a development,” he said. The platform, he said is informed by recent changed in the market. Private sales have slowed. Collectors want time to look, think, and negotiate. Deals stretch out. “There’s no urgency,” Gorvy said. Even strong works can sit while buyers circle. Related Articles Auctions still do the opposite. They create a moment: you either show up and bid, or you don’t. That pressure matters more right now because the market has spent the past couple of years resetting. Auction houses have leaned on lower estimates to get works moving, and the results have been solid. Strong sell-through rates and a run of clean sales have pulled sellers back toward competition. Now, LGD Hammer wants to bring that pressure into a gallery setting. Instead of sending a …

My Year in Paris With Gertrude Stein by Deborah Levy review – wonderfully entertaining | Deborah Levy

The narrator of Deborah Levy’s witty scherzo of a “fiction” – “novel” isn’t the word for this uncategorisable book – thinks that Gertrude Stein would have liked Sigmund Freud. She imagines them enjoying a cigar together while their wives make small talk. Would Frau Freud “have exchanged her recipe for boiled beef with Alice B [Toklas]’s recipe for hashish fudge”? The two never met (though with her interest in the “bottom character” and his in the “unconscious”, Stein and Freud would have had plenty to talk about), but that barely matters. This book is full of things that don’t actually happen, of relationships that are not what the people involved suppose them to be, of digressions and fantasies and encounters that are imagined but never take place. It all starts with a lost cat. The cat is called “it”: lower-case “i” followed by lower-case “t”. This causes all sorts of linguistic confusion, highlighting the way we use the word “it” to mean something indeterminate (as in the first sentence of this paragraph), or something trivial, …

Deborah Levy: ‘CS Lewis’s White Witch terrified me – but I wanted to meet her’ | Fiction

Deborah Levy: ‘CS Lewis’s White Witch terrified me – but I wanted to meet her’ | Fiction

My earliest reading memoryThe Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss, particularly the little red fan the cat holds in the tip of its tail. At the age of five, I was reading The Famous Five, getting to grips with Enid Blyton’s most complex characters, Aunt Fanny and Uncle Quentin. I was born in apartheid South Africa. The children in the Famous Five series had no human rights problems and it is set in Dorset, a landscape that was totally unknown to me. My bedroom window in Johannesburg looked out on a garden of bone-white grass and a peach tree. My favourite book growing upI was delighted to move on to the imaginative sophistication of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. CS Lewis’s lucky strike was to come up with the idea that a wardrobe was the portal to another world. Although she terrified me, I wanted to meet the White Witch, who rode on a sleigh pulled by white reindeer. The book that changed me as a teenagerChéri by Colette. For the sex and sadness about ageing and desire, …

Levy, the show’s co-creator, had previously that fan speculation had inspired him to consider a potential revival of the Emmy-winning comedy series after it aired from 2015 to 2020. But after O’Hara — who played flamboyant matriarch Moira Rose on the Canadian sitcom — died from a pulmonary embolism in January at age 71, Levy said there is no way that the show could return without her. “No. We can’t,” Levy, 42, said in an interview with CBS News published Sunday. “I was thinking about it. Yeah. It’s tough. It’s tough going back.” He told the broadcaster that it was “awe-inspiring” to work with the comedian on the show. Dan Levy said he is not interested in doing a ‘Schitt’s …

Turkish ruling party proposes 10% crypto income tax, levy on service providers

Turkish ruling party proposes 10% crypto income tax, levy on service providers

ISTANBUL, March 2 : Turkey’s ruling AK Party proposed on Monday adopting a tax on cryptocurrency income and a transaction levy on crypto asset service providers, in a draft law submitted to parliament. “Platforms must apply a 10 per cent withholding tax on income and gains from crypto‑asset transactions on a quarterly basis,” the text of the draft said. Profits from crypto asset transactions conducted outside authorized platforms would be taxed through declaration in annual statements. Under the proposal, crypto asset service providers would pay a 0.03 per cent transaction tax on sale and transfer transactions they conduct or mediate. Turkish authorities have steadily tightened oversight of platforms as cryptocurrency use in Turkey surged in recent years, driven largely by high inflation and the lira’s depreciation. Turkey ranks among the world’s highest in crypto adoption and annual transaction volumes, reaching nearly $200 billion in 2025, far surpassing other markets in the region, U.S.-based blockchain research company Chainalysis said in a report.  Source link

Minnesota church protest leader Nekima Levy Armstrong arrested, say federal officials

(RNS) — Federal officials say they have arrested three of the protesters who disrupted a worship service at a Minnesota church this past weekend. Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on Twitter that Nekima Levy Armstrong, one of the protest organizers, and alleged protester Chauntyll Louisa Allen were arrested on Thursday morning (Jan. 22).  A third protester was arrested later in the day. “Listen loud and clear: WE DO NOT TOLERATE ATTACKS ON PLACES OF WORSHIP,” Bondi tweeted. Asked to confirm the arrests, the media office for the Department of Homeland Security emailed a link to a tweet about Armstrong’s arrest by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. “Homeland Security Investigators and FBI agents arrested Nekima Levy Armstrong who played a key role in orchestrating the Church Riots in St. Paul, Minnesota,” Noem tweeted, adding that Armstrong was being charged with violating Section 241 of Title 18 of the U.S. Criminal Code, a section known as “conspiracy against rights.” “Religious freedom is the bedrock of the United States — there is no first amendment right to obstruct …
