Zadran, who was admitted to a hospital in the Indian capital in January, is suffering from an advanced form of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and has been placed in the intensive care unit (ICU), ESPNcricinfo reported on Monday. “It was a very serious infection,” Zadran’s brother Ghamai Zadran told ESPNcricinfo. “His whole body was full of the infection, including TB (tuberculosis). It also spread to his brain, which was revealed after MRI and CT scans.” Ghamai said Zadran had started to respond to the treatment and, after a few weeks, he was discharged from the hospital and the group moved to a hotel nearby. “The doctor said we could drop in for the checkups frequently,” Ghamai said. “He [Zadran] was feeling good for about 20 days before …

Vacationers beware – CDC issues travel warning as ‘life-threatening’ disease sees rising number of cases

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning on March 23 to all travelers returning to the US from countries like Cuba, Vietnam and Samoa, due to the rising number of cases of “breakbone fever”, also known as dengue fever. The illness is spread not through person-to-person contact, but through infected Aedes mosquitos from tropical and subtropical regions, with 25% of people bitten reporting symptoms. The symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, a rash, pains in the muscles and joints, and minor bleeding. In severe cases, symptoms can include belly pain, internal bleeding, rapid breathing and persistent vomiting. © Getty ImagesDengue fever is spread via mosquitos The CDC advised that anyone who had symptoms of severe dengue fever should “see a healthcare provider or go to the emergency room immediately,” as “severe dengue is a medical emergency [and] requires immediate medical care.” The severe form of dengue is called dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can lead to shock and even death. The agency added that they had “identified a higher-than-expected number of dengue cases among …

ChatGPT Health Is Staggeringly Bad at Recognizing Life-Threatening Medical Emergencies

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Earlier this year, OpenAI launched a new tool called ChatGPT Health, which is designed to ingest your medical records to generate health advice — while sporting a puzzling disclaimer: that it’s “not intended for diagnosis or treatment.” As it turns out, there’s a very good reason for that warning. According to the first independent safety evaluation of the feature, as detailed in this month’s edition of the journal Nature Medicine, the app is astonishingly bad at identifying medical emergencies. “We wanted to answer the most basic safety question; if someone is having a real medical emergency and asks ChatGPT Health what to do, will it tell them to go to the emergency department,” lead author and Mount Sinai Hospital instructor Ashwin Ramaswamy told The Guardian. Ramaswamy and his colleagues “conducted a structured stress test of triage recommendations using 60 clinician-authored vignettes across 21 clinical domains,” ranging from mild illnesses to emergencies. They then asked ChatGPT Health what to …

NASA astronauts were ‘stranded’ in space by life-threatening mishap, report finds | Science, Climate & Tech News

Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, the two NASA astronauts “stranded” in space, came close to catastrophe because their spacecraft wasn’t ready to fly, according to a scathing report by the space agency. The investigation classed the incident as a life-threatening “Type A mishap”, putting it on a par with the two fatal Space Shuttle disasters in 1986 and 2003. It comes as NASA prepares to launch four astronauts on a mission to loop around the moon on a rocket that has flown only once before, without humans on board. Pic: NASA via AP One senior NASA official said of the Starliner incident: “We almost did have a really terrible day.” The Boeing-built Starliner capsule was on its first crewed test flight to the International Space Station in June 2024 when its thrusters failed, leaving it dangerously out of control. Mr Wilmore and Ms Williams managed to restart the propulsion system and manually dock with the ISS. But Jared Isaacman, the new NASA chief, told a news conference: …

Brandy’s brother Ray J shares scary update after life-threatening hospitalization: ‘My health is not OK’

The 45-year-old singer and songwriter updated his fans in a video shared to social media on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Appearing visibly weakened, he delivered a frightening prognosis: “2027 is definitely a wrap for me. That’s what the doctor said.” The “Sexy Can I” was hospitalized earlier this month in Las Vegas for severe pneumonia which severely damaged his heart. “My heart’s only beating 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right,” he said in a January 25 Instagram video. “My health is not OK, so I thank everybody for supporting and praying for me through everything I’ve been in the hospital.” During the separate, more alarming stream on January 27, he went further, claiming doctors told him he had as little as three weeks left to live. © Getty ImagesBrandy and Ray J during a Disneyland Concert in Anaheim, California The support and prayers are surely coming from his …

‘Life-threatening’ winter storm to hit US with snow, ice and ‘dangerously’ cold temperatures | US News

A major winter storm is set to sweep the United States this weekend, bringing with it snow, sleet, ice and sub-zero temperatures from the Arizona-New Mexico border to upstate New York. What is it? A winter storm is defined as a combination of heavy snow, blowing snow and/or dangerous wind chills, according to the NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory, which also describes it as “life-threatening”. The approaching storm is due to an area of low pressure moving up from the Gulf of Mexico (bringing lots of moisture) and meeting extremely cold Arctic air plunging south from Canada. The winter storm set to hit the US comes with warnings of ice. An ice storm is one which results in the accumulation of at least a quarter of an inch of ice on exposed surfaces – creating hazardous driving and walking conditions and the threat of downed power lines and trees. Davina McCall admits feeling ‘frightened’ about her new four-day work week after two life-threatening health scares forced her to ‘de-stress’

Davina McCall has admitted having uneasy feelings after being forced to step back from full-time work. The star announced that she will now be working a four-day week after two health scares showed her she needed to “de-stress”. Davina, 58, opened up on the latest Miss Me? podcast about being “frightened” as she reflected on her learnings following treatment for a brain tumour in 2024 and then breast cancer in 2025. She admitted that both experiences have made her confront her tendency to overwork. “Change is something that all my life, I spent running away from,” she told hosts Miquita Oliver and Jordan Stephens. “I absolutely hated it. Change was something that really frightened me. I always loved the status quo, knowing what I was doing and feeling safe in that.” Davina, who has three children with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson, has been almost continually in the spotlight since 1992 when she hosted programmes on MTV Europe. In the past three decades, she has appeared on some of the UK’s biggest TV shows, including Big …
