How Wonder Woman Lifted Primetime TV 50 Years Ago

How Wonder Woman Lifted Primetime TV 50 Years Ago

Lynda Carter lassoed TV viewers half a century ago with her star-making turn on Wonder Woman. Following the success of its Adam West-led Batman in the 1960s, ABC set its sights on fellow DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince, an Amazon princess aided by her Lasso of Truth, bulletproof bracelets and invisible plane. After a pilot in 1974 that starred Cathy Lee Crosby did not move forward, the network tried again, this time with Stanley Ralph Ross’ script for The New Original Wonder Woman. Future Charlie’s Angels stars Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith were considered for the lead until Carter, who won Miss World USA in 1972 and had only a few small roles to her name, nabbed the part. Co-starring Lyle Waggoner as pilot Steve Trevor, the project was set amid World War II as Wonder Woman fought to keep America safe. After the pilot film debuted to strong ratings, ABC added two one-hour specials, the first of which aired April 21, 1976. While the first season remained popular, ABC balked at …

Kid Rock helicopter crews suspension lifted by Pete Hegseth

Kid Rock helicopter crews suspension lifted by Pete Hegseth

A military helicopter flies over a No Kings protest Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Nashville, Tenn. George Walker IV | AP Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday abruptly reversed the U.S. Army’s suspension from flight duties hours earlier of two AH 64 Apache helicopter crews that flew around musician Kid Rock’s home in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend. Hegseth’s move, which also quashed an Army investigation of Saturday’s unusual flyby, came shortly after President Donald Trump was asked about the incident by reporters at the White House. Trump said he liked Kid Rock, who is a prominent supporter of his, even as the president suggested the crews’ conduct was unauthorized. “Thank you @KidRock,” Hegseth wrote in a post on his personal X social media account shortly after Trump’s comments. “@USArmy pilots suspension LIFTED. No punishment. No investigation,” the Pentagon chief wrote. “Carry on, patriots.” The Army on Monday said that it was investigating the crews for the flyby, which Kid Rock had posted on his X social media account. Videos posted by the singer show …

The game-winning goal that lifted a hockey team and community from tragedy

The game-winning goal that lifted a hockey team and community from tragedy

Noise rose inside Schneider Arena as the puck slipped onto Colin Dorgan’s stick late in double overtime. Behind him, only one defender was in pursuit. Ahead of him, there was open net. About five seconds later, the crowd let out a roar. In his first season at the co-op with Blackstone Valley Schools (senior year), Dorgan scored a breakaway goal with 48.1 seconds left to go in double overtime during his team’s biggest upset victory (3–2) over the top-seeded Portsmouth in the Rhode Island Division II Championship Game (final). He said after that moment he realized that it was much more than just a playoff win. “It was the best moment of my life,” he added, as his teammates rushed the ice to celebrate the goal. A Season Cut Short Due To Tragedy Just a few weeks earlier, during the program’s senior night game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, the Blackstone Valley team experienced a devastating event that rocked the entire Rhode Island sports community. During the game, there were reports that a …

Singapore’s January exports rise 9.3%, electronic shipments lifted by AI demand

Singapore’s January exports rise 9.3%, electronic shipments lifted by AI demand

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX) rose by 9.3 per cent in January from the same month a year earlier, Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) said on Monday (Feb 16). The increase was led by electronics shipments, which grew 56.1 per cent in January – more than double the previous month’s growth. This was driven mainly by strong AI-related demand and a low base. Export growth was lower than expected, compared with a Reuters poll forecast of a 12.1 per cent increase, and non-electronic NODX fell by 3 per cent. Ms Selena Ling, chief economist and head of OCBC group research, also noted that January’s NODX growth fell short of the bank’s and Bloomberg’s forecasts.  The main drivers of electronic NODX growth were integrated circuits (ICs), disk media products and personal computers (PCs), which were up 80.5 per cent, 70.2 per cent and 24 per cent respectively. “The near-term prognosis for electronics demand, especially semiconductor, remains underpinned by the global upswing for AI, cloud and high-performance computing chip demand,” said Ms Ling.  The decline in non-electronic NODX …

Iran Says It Could Dilute Enriched Uranium if All Sanctions Are Lifted

Iran Says It Could Dilute Enriched Uranium if All Sanctions Are Lifted

DUBAI, Feb 9 (Reuters) – Iran could agree to dilute its most highly enriched ‌uranium in exchange for all financial sanctions being ‌lifted, its atomic chief said on Monday, one of the most direct indications so far of its position at talks with Washington. U.S. and Iranian diplomats held talks through Omani mediators in Oman last week in an effort to revive ‍diplomacy, after U.S. President Donald Trump positioned a naval flotilla in the region raising fears of new military action. The talks follow a crackdown on anti-government demonstrations in Iran last month when thousands of people were killed, the biggest domestic unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Trump joined an Israeli bombing campaign last year and hit Iranian nuclear sites. He also threatened last month to intervene militarily during the protests but ultimately held off. Washington has demanded Iran relinquish its stockpile – estimated last year by the UN nuclear agency at more than 440 kg – of uranium enriched to up ‌to 60% fissile purity, a small step away from the 90% that …

(Alamy) 2 min read2 hr Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that China has agreed to remove sanctions from six parliamentarians, meaning they will be allowed to travel to the country. In 2021, the Chinese Communist Party imposed sanctions on four current Conservative MPs after they criticised its human rights record and the persecution of the Uyghur people in Xinjiang. They were former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith, former security minister Tom Tugendhat, Nusrat Ghani and Neil O’Brien. China also sanctioned Labour peer and human rights barrister Baroness Helena Kennedy, and crossbench peer Lord David Alton. Speaking on Friday during his multi-day trip to China — the first visit to the country by a British prime minister in eight years — the PM announced that following a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, China had agreed to lift the sanctions. Starmer told Times Radio: “The question of our parliamentarians has been a huge issue back in our Parliament, and therefore I did raise it. “And the response has been that the restrictions no longer apply. “And President …
