March 26 : Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain’s visit to second-placed Lens, set for April 11, has been postponed to May 13 to allow them more time to prepare for their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) said on Thursday. Strasbourg’s visit to Brest, scheduled for April 12, has also been moved to May 13 to help them prepare for their Europa Conference League last-eight clashes with Mainz, the LFP said in a statement. “These decisions are in line with the board of directors’ clear strategic aim of enabling France to retain its fifth place in the UEFA coefficient rankings, which secures four places in the UEFA Champions League,” the LFP said in a statement. PSG, the reigning European champions, host Liverpool three days before the Lens fixture and travel to Anfield for the second leg on April 14. NICE, France, March 21 : Nuno Mendes scored a first-half penalty and provided an assist for Desire Doue as Paris Saint-Germain moved back to the top of Ligue 1 with a resounding 4-0 victory at struggling 10-man Nice on Saturday. PSG move to 60 points from 26 games, one more than second-placed Lens who won 5-1 at Angers on Friday, and have a game in hand. Nice are on 27 points from 27 games, five points above the relegation zone. After missing several chances, the visitors took the lead on 42 minutes when Nice defender Morgan Sanson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box from Doue’s shot. LORIENT, France (AP) — The French Ligue 1 club Lorient announced Wednesday that the Black Knight Football Club group had become its sole shareholder. The Black Knight consortium fronted by American businessman Bill Foley, which owns the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL, acquired a minority ownership interest in Lorient in January 2023 as part of its multi-club ownership strategy. BKFC also owns Premier League side Bournemouth, Moreirense FC in Portugal and Auckland FC in New Zealand. Lorient said in a statement that Wednesday’s move follows “a strategic agreement aimed at strengthening the long-term development of FC Lorient in an increasingly competitive football environment.” BKFC is bringing more than $550 million in equity, Lorient said.
