4 UK travel firms have plunged into administration or ceased trading in 2026 (Image: Getty) Four travel firms have ceased trading in 2026 and cancelled all bookings. With jet fuel prices soaring following the Iran crisis and international travel hit with uncertainty thanks to travel warnings, there could yet be more companies pushed to breaking point. When holiday businesses do collapse, bookings are cancelled and holidaymakers lose their trip and their money, unless their firm was covered by ATOL protection. In January, Regen Central Ltd went into liquidation and cancelled all trips without refunds. The firm, which was founded in Hertfordshire in 2011 before moving to London, lost its ATOL protection on January 13. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said Regen Central had no outstanding ATOL protect bookings, and that those sold as accommodation only, non flight or flight only bookings are not protected by ATOL. Major UK airline plunges into liquidation – all flights cancelled | UK | News

A British airline has collapsed into liquidation following a reported attempt to raise £20million. Scottish firm Ecojet Airlines had been heralded as the world’s first all-electric airline, established in 2023 by entrepreneur Dale Vince, a prominent Labour donor and owner of Forest Green Rovers football club. The airline harboured ambitious plans for long-haul flights and European routes, with an initial service from Edinburgh to Southampton mapped out. However, a petition was brought before Edinburgh Sheriff Court to wind up the business and appoint joint interim liquidators, according to documents from the end of January. At the time of launch, Mr Vince stated: “This is a vital frontier in the move to net zero, green living, whatever you choose to call it – and it’s absolutely doable. It’s a matter of when, not if.” The Herald reports that Paul Dounis and Mark Harper, of Opus Restructuring, were appointed as provisional liquidators. Opus confirmed the action followed a “voluntary liquidation initiated by the company’s board.” It added: “Ecojet was a start-up business and has no material assets. …

Major food company plunges into liquidation – works with Morrisons and Waitrose | UK | News

A major food wholesaler has collapsed after 35 years in business. A total of 71 people have lost their jobs after Enterprise Foods Limited, which traded as Localist, went bust. The East Kilbride-based company helped Scottish suppliers, producers, and farmers get their goods onto the shelves of retailers such as Waitrose, Co-op, Poundland, and Morrisons. The business fell into difficulty after failing to refinance debts of more than £5 million, amid cash-flow problems that had built up over several years. These were linked to bad debts following the failure of numerous customers and were worsened by challenging market conditions in both the retail and hospitality sectors. This has left 250 local suppliers up and down the UK uncertain about how to get products to retailers and receive payment. Localist helps deliver 4,000 products a week to over 2,500 stores and 1,000 catering companies. George Lafferty of BTG was appointed provisional liquidator on Wednesday (March 18) following the business’s petition. Thomas McKay, managing partner of BTG in Scotland and Northern Ireland, said staff are being supported …

UK family-run engineering firm crashes into liquidation after 92 years | UK | News

A Scottish family-owned engineering firm has collapsed into liquidation after operating for nearly 100 years. Tullibardine Smiddy Limited has been in the family for four generations, but the owners decided that “the company be wound up voluntarily”, with George Lafferty of Begbies Traynor appointed as liquidator. Companies House notes the business as performing jobs including the repair of fabricated metal products, the wholesale of agricultural machinery, equipment, and supplies, and other engineering activities. In 2022, the company underwent a rebrand, changing its name from Robert Aitken and Sons to Tullibardine Smiddy Ltd. It was reported at the time that the chairman, Craig Aitken, said the business, which has been operating for 92 years, has “always been about having a chat and understanding the customers’ needs”. The company was also known for supporting local farmers within the Perthshire and Kinross region since 1934, while specialising in blacksmithing and agricultural engineering. According to The Herald, Tullibardine Smiddy Ltd is now in a “members’ and creditors’” liquidation process. The liquidation comes amid thousands of closures happening across the …
