‘One Battle After Another’ Leads Longlists
With awards season heating up, BAFTA has thrown in its two cents with strong showings for One Battle After Another, Hamnet, and Sinners on their 2026 Film Awards longlists. Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller came out on top with 16 mentions on the longlists, shortly followed by Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean heartbreaker Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s slick vampire film Sinners with 14 apiece. Following closely behind them was Josh Safdie’s wild ping-pong caper Marty Supreme (13), Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy Bugonia (12) and Guillermo del Toro’s gothic classic Frankenstein (12). Both Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value and Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good also scored high on the longlists, appearing eight times each. Apart from Wicked, they’re all in contention for best film, as is The Ballad of Wallis Island, Nuremberg and I Swear. All of the aforementioned filmmakers — bar Chu — are up for best director with Hikari for Rental Family, Kathryn Bigelow for A House of Dynamite, Lynne Ramsay for Die My Love, and Kaouther Ben Hania for The Voice of Hind Rajab.
