Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, has quietly proven her status as one of the world’s most generous philanthropists following an incredible $70 million unrestricted donation to Meals on Wheels America.  The 56-year-old, who was married to Jeff for 25 years until they split in 2019, has a net worth of roughly $31.8 billion, and pledged to give it all away in her lifetime.  Meals on Wheels shared insight into just how meaningful MacKenzie’s donation was in a statement shared in April. “We are deeply grateful for this extraordinary act of generosity and trust that will help us move closer to a world where every senior who needs Meals on Wheels gets it,” said Ellie Hollander, the president and CEO of Meals on Wheels America.  © Getty ImagesMacKenzie was married to Jeff Bezos for 25 years “This investment will help accelerate our strategic plan and strengthen the capacity of local providers so more seniors can access the meals and social connection they need to live nourished, independent lives.” Kristine Templin, the chief development and marketing officer, added that she …

Small Prophets review: Mackenzie Crook’s superb Detectorists follow-up brings surrealism to the suburbs

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Trust Mackenzie Crook to do it again. Since his BBC curio Detectorists concluded in 2017 (the 2022 Christmas special notwithstanding), it has achieved cult-like status: a comedy that excavated the profound from the prosaic, transforming muddy fields and failed treasure hunts into something more. Crook’s deft writing made his tale of two men and their metal detectors less a satire about hobbyists than a meditation on male friendship, thwarted dreams, and the quiet devastations of middle age. Expectations are high, then, for Small Prophets. It doesn’t disappoint. Just as Detectorists found poetry in the Suffolk landscape and church halls, so Small Prophets discovers it in retail parks and overgrown suburban gardens – that same mournful melancholy punctured by moments of brilliant, absurdist humour. Even the music, haunting and ethereal, will twang its way into your soul. Pearce Quigley stars as Michael …

MacKenzie Gore Traded to the Rangers From the Nationals for 5 Prospects

“We’re at a moment right now in time where we have a team we believe is capable of winning, and winning a championship,” Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker said. “And when you add a player of MacKenzie Gore’s status, it’s not that you look past what you’re giving up, but you’re excited on what you’re bringing in and what that does to the clubhouse, what this does for our fan base, what this does for excitement around the club.” Gore is under team control for the next two seasons; he can’t become a free agent until after the 2027 World Series. He is scheduled to make $5.6 million in 2026 after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Nationals that avoided arbitration. Gore, who turns 27 next month, is 26-41 with a 4.19 ERA in four major league seasons, the past three with Washington. He was an NL All-Star last season, but he faded in the second half and ended up going 5-15 with a 4.17 ERA and a career-best 185 strikeouts in 30 appearances, …

MacKenzie Thomas’s 4-Hour Show Collapses Distance Between Art and Artist

MacKenzie Thomas’s 4-Hour Show Collapses Distance Between Art and Artist

I saw a work this past week that I did not know how to critique. The premise of the performance was simple: MacKenzie Thomas, an internet personality with half a million followers across TikTok and Instagram, would read aloud everything she posted on X over the past year. Each month was introduced by a personal essay reflecting on the events of her life during that period. Described in promotional materials as a “durational performance,” I Said What I Said ran for four hours. So far, it has been staged twice in New York, selling out both times. This Wednesday, Thomas will bring the performance to Los Angeles at Heavy Manners. Related Articles As we took our seats in a small theater above the Flatiron vintage shop Surrender Dorothy, Thomas waited onstage beside a projector queued with a Google Slides presentation. On a nearby desk, she had arranged a Stanley cup, a Gatorade, coconut water, her computer, and a speaker. She stood onstage and moved herself through catharsis. She broke up with her long-term “metrosexual” boyfriend. …

MacKenzie Scott Donates Million to the Trevor Project

MacKenzie Scott Donates $45 Million to the Trevor Project

On Monday, billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $45 million to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that serves LGBTQ+ youth. The large gift comes just months after the Trump administration shut down counseling services for queer youth through the federally funded 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, for which the The Trevor Project administered services. In a blog post Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, called the donation “transformational,” describing Scott’s gift as the biggest single donation the charitable organization has ever received in its 27 years of operating. Scott previously donated $6 million to the nonprofit during the first Trump administration. Scott, who divorced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2019, is a prolific philanthropist who has recently ramped up her charitable donations. In 2025, Scott gave over $7 billion to nonprofit organizations. “At a time when many LGBTQ+ young people are facing heightened stigma, political hostility, and mental health challenges, MacKenzie Scott’s support sends a powerful message,” Black wrote. “LGBTQ+ young people matter, and the world is full of people fighting for their safety and …

Aberdeen fan who struck and disfigured footballer Jack MacKenzie after throwing seat at game is jailed | UK News

A football fan who left one of his players with a serious injury and permanent facial disfigurement after throwing part of a seat on to the pitch has been jailed for 18 months. David Gowans, 32, hurled the object following a league match between Aberdeen and Dundee United at Tannadice on 17 May 2025. Image: David Gowans leaving Dundee Sheriff Court in November. Pic: PA It struck then Aberdeen player Jack MacKenzie in the face, leaving him with a “deep 2in laceration” to his left eyebrow and a “5cm abrasion” below his left eye. The incident occurred as fans invaded the pitch following Dundee United’s 2-1 win – which secured them fourth spot in the Scottish Premiership and a place in Europe. Father-of-one Gowans, who was said to have been working as an offshore operator at the time, had been a member of the Aberdeen ultras supporters’ group. Sheriff Alastair Carmichael told him: “Your actions were selfish, stupid, dangerous and utterly irresponsible. “You must have known that by throwing this item it could hit somebody. …

Kelvin MacKenzie praises ‘decent Guardian journalism’ and says he was ‘duped’ over hacking

Kelvin MacKenzie must rank as the most successful editor ever to work for Rupert Murdoch. He guided The Sun to its highest circulation and was responsible for many of its memorable iconic headlines. He regarded Murdoch, the man he affectionately called “boss”, as the world’s greatest newspaper owner. When the phone-hacking scandal broke in 2011, MacKenzie was among the most forthright supporters of Murdoch’s company. In the course of several TV and radio appearances, he echoed the News International line that a single “rogue reporter” had been responsible for voicemail interceptions. It has long been known that MacKenzie was deeply upset when the truth about the scale of hacking finally emerged. But he maintained a silence in public until his appearance on ITV documentary The Real Hack – the companion to a seven-part drama series, The Hack. He has now revealed just how angry he was to discover the fact that hundreds of people had been hacked by journalists working for the News of the World. He said: “I wrote a note to Rebekah Brooks …
