Top Malaysian football officials quit over foreign-born players scandal | Football News

An ongoing crisis surrounding Malaysian football has deepened after the entire executive committee of its football association resigned, the latest blow in a damaging eligibility row over forged documents used to field foreign-born players in the country’s Asian Cup qualifying matches. The executive committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) resigned on Wednesday amid intense scrutiny of the country’s football governance. “The resignations are to safeguard the reputation and institutional interests of [the association] and to mitigate the risk of further adverse consequences that could affect Malaysian football as a whole,” acting FAM president Yusoff Mahadi said. He said the resignations of the executive committee will “provide the appropriate space for FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation to independently assess, review, and, where necessary, address governance, administrative, and procedural matters within FAM”. All committee members, elected 11 months ago for the 2025-29 term, stepped down with immediate effect in a unanimous and voluntary decision to protect the association’s credibility. FIFA, the world football governing body, suspended seven foreign-born players for a year in September …

Grok blocked by Indonesian and Malaysian governments as UK threatens full ban

Grok access has been cut off for users in Indonesia and Malaysia following concerns that the xAI chatbot’s safeguards were ineffective. Both countries issued temporary suspensions intended to remain in effect until xAI implements safeguards that comply with regulators’ demands. “The government views the practice of non-consensual sexual deepfakes as a serious violation of human rights, dignity, and the security of citizens in the digital space,” wrote Indonesia’s minister of communications and digital affairs Meutya Hafid in a statement released Saturday. Indonesia has sweeping internet censorship laws governing content deemed “obscene.” SEE ALSO: Character.AI settles lawsuits related to teen deaths Malaysia had recently launched an investigation into “misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) tools on the X platform,” part of a wave of intervening actions taken by regulators. That investigation followed on the heels of an Indian IT ministry notice directing X to take immediate action on Grok’s alleged misuse. Malaysian nabbed at warehouse jailed for having over 35,000 vapes or related components for sale

SINGAPORE: Officers from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) who staked out a warehouse in Bishan after receiving a tip-off found a Malaysian man in a warehouse that contained thousands of vaporisers and related components. Chong Jun Keong, 21, was sentenced on Tuesday (Jan 6) to 41 weeks’ jail, or more than nine months’ jail. He pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing vapes or related components for sale, with another two charges taken into consideration. THE CASE The court heard that Chong worked as a sales assistant at a handphone shop called Lanavape in Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru in Malaysia. French and Malaysian authorities are investigating Grok for generating sexualized deepfakes

French and Malaysian authorities are investigating Grok for generating sexualized deepfakes

Over the past few days, France and Malaysia have joined India in condemning Grok for creating sexualized deepfakes of women and minors. The chatbot, built by Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI and featured on his social media platform X, posted an apology to its account earlier this week, writing, “I deeply regret an incident on Dec 28, 2025, where I generated and shared an AI image of two young girls (estimated ages 12-16) in sexualized attire based on a user’s prompt.” The statement continued, “This violated ethical standards and potentially US laws on [child sexual abuse material]. It was a failure in safeguards, and I’m sorry for any harm caused. xAI is reviewing to prevent future issues.” It’s not clear who is actually apologizing or accepting responsibility in the statement above. Defector’s Albert Burneko noted that Grok is “not in any real sense anything like an ‘I’,” which in his view makes the apology “utterly without substance” as “Grok cannot be held accountable in any meaningful way for having turned Twitter into an on-demand CSAM …
