Netflix’s new Cinderella-inspired film confirms beloved Mamma Mia star as beloved heroine

Amanda Seyfried has enjoyed a rich and eclectic career, from her breakout role in Mean Girls and iconic turn in Mamma Mia to her magnificent, overlooked performance in the recent The Testament of Ann Lee. And now, she’s been cast as one of the most beloved characters ever to grace the silver screen. Seyfried has been announced as the voice of none other than Cinderella in Netflix’s new animated reimagining of the classic fairytale, which is titled Steps and will tell the story from the perspective of her “misunderstood” stepsisters Lilith and Margot, voiced by Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu. Steps will be released on an as-yet-unspecified date in 2026 and is directed by Alyce Tzue (a Gold medal winner at the Student Academy Awards in 2015) and John Ripa (co-director on Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon). The official synopsis reads: “Think you know Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters? Think again! When misunderstood Lilith is blamed for hijacking the Royal Ball with a stolen magic wand, she accidentally turns her sister Margot into a frog and …

Meryl Streep Says ‘Damn Yes’ To Third Mamma Mia! Film

Meryl Streep is ready to don those famous blue overalls once again, hinting that she wants to reprise one of her most beloved film roles. During an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the host asked the three-time Oscar winner if she would want to star in another Mamma Mia! film. Without taking a second to think about it, an enthusiastic Meryl enthused: “Damn, yes!” Speculation has been swirling since the second Mamma Mia! film came out in 2018 about whether another sequel could be on its way. The rumour drill then went into overdrive in 2025, when several cast members revealed they’d been in talks with the producers about returning to the musical franchise. Amanda Seyfried, who played Sophie Sheridan in both films, claimed in November 2025 that the wheels were in motion for the threequel, sharing with Entertainment Tonight: “Of course it’s not off the table, it’s searing a hole into the table.” She added: “Maybe I should just be coy, or maybe I’m just naïve, but I’m …

Mamma mia! Investigating crimes against Italian food. – POLITICO

Answers on a postcard to the supermarket in the European Parliament and/or the International Criminal Court. It’s been a challenging week for Italian foodstuffs. Italy’s agriculture minister, Francesco Lollobrigida, was livid when he saw a jar of carbonara sauce on the shelves of the Delhaize store inside the Parliament in Brussels that contained pancetta rather than guanciale — the cheek of it! (Guanciale is pork cheek, get it? No? Oh.) Lollobrigida said such products represent the “worst of ‘Italian-sounding’” foodstuffs and called for an “immediate investigation.” Thank goodness there isn’t a war (or several) going on. That said, passing off food as Italian is a big financial deal. Agricultural group Coldiretti reckons the “scandal of fake Italian products” costs the country €120 billion a year. Italy has also applied for Italian cuisine to be included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list (which basically means you can’t f**k with it). On a side note, already on the UNESCO list is “shrimp fishing on horseback” in Oostduinkerke, Belgium. I didn’t know shrimp could ride horses! Italian Prime …
