The Iran war started as a test of military capabilities and stockpiles, and the United States and Israel had the clear advantage. The U.S. brought some 20 ships and submarines to the fight—including two aircraft carriers—50,000 troops, and hundreds of planes and drones. Tube drivers have voted massively in favour of going on strike in a bid to block the introduction of a four-day working week. No strike dates have been announced yet but a walkout of drivers who belong to the RMT union would cause massive disruption to the London Underground, though may not result in a total shutdown. RMT bosses have to give Transport for London two weeks’ notice of any strike action – meaning the earliest a walkout could take place would be mid-March, as no announcement is expected from the union today (Friday, February 27). The RMT opposes the way TfL is proposing to introduce a voluntary four-day week for Tube drivers because it would lengthen the working day and raise concerns about fatigue. But rival Tube drivers’ union Aslef is strongly in favour of the plans, which it regards as the “biggest improvement in working conditions for Underground train drivers in decades” and it would result in the equivalent of more than a month off. It isn’t always easy to detect cheating in chess SimpleImages/Getty Just three judiciously deployed cheats can turn an otherwise equal chess game into a near-certain victory, a new analysis shows – and systems designed to crack down on cheating might not notice the foul play. Daniel Keren at the University of Haifa in Israel simulated 100,000 matches using the powerful Stockfish chess engine – a computer system that, at its maximum power, is better at playing chess than any human world champion. The matches were played between two computer engines competing at the level of an average chess player – 1500 on the Elo rating scale typically used to calculate skill level in chess. Half the games were logged without any further intervention, while the other half allowed occasional intervention by a stronger computer chess “player” with an Elo score of 3190 – a higher rating than any human player has ever achieved. Trump won over more young voters in the 2024 election than in his two previous runs for president, helping him return to the White House. But nearly a year into Trump’s second presidency, Gen Z, those born between 1997 and 2012, are turning on him. On Wednesday, CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten announced shocking results from new polling, which showed Trump’s net approval rating among Gen Z at negative 32 percentage points. That is a huge dip from his plus-10 net approval rating with young people in February 2025, shortly after the start of his second term.
