Teo – who joined Mediacorp after emerging as a top 12 finalist in the 2016 DJ search, The Sound Makers – clinched her first-ever Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes trophy at the annual ceremony earlier this month. This marks her first award after a decade in showbiz. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” she wrote. “In one of my livestreams, I promised 250 waffles to everyone who voted for me. Now that I‘ve made it to the stage, it’s waffle time,” she added. Getting scolded by a director is nothing unusual in showbiz but for it to make the actor consider quitting acting? That’s a different story. In a recent interview, Singaporean actor Romeo Tan, who was joined by actress Carrie Wong, recalled the project in which he received the harshest criticism in his 16-year acting career. “I think it’s The Journey: Tumultuous Times,” said the 40-year-old, who played a villainous lawyer in the 2014 Mediacorp series. And you know it must have been bad when Wong, who was present that day, still remembers it vividly – even 11 years on. “Oh my god, I was there,” exclaimed the actress, who also had her breakout role as Tang Shui Mei in the series. Her performance as a newcomer earned her nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Newcomer at the Star Awards 2015. According to Wong, it was her very first day on set. Singaporean musician Shazza has just added yet another role to her resume – acting. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter recently emerged as the winner of the reality competition show Berani Lakon!, which featured contestants with no acting background showcasing their acting chops.  As the show’s champion, she will appear in Mediacorp’s upcoming Hari Raya drama Mimpi Raya, which will be released during the festive season. The final episode, which aired on Suria on Tuesday (Feb 10), marked the culmination of nine weeks of acting challenges and performances that began with 30 contestants. Shazza edged out five other finalists: dance choreographer Alif Aircho, content creator Yusoff Rasid, rapper OmarKenobi, musician Nana Karia, and Mediacorp 987 personality Natasha Faisal.
