Meghan Markle reacts to being told she has no wrinkles in Melbourne – watch

The Duchess of Sussex had a busy start to her visit to Melbourne alongside her husband, Prince Harry. Touching down in the Australian city on Tuesday, Meghan was spotted out and about for the first time in the country since 2018 for a four-day trip of “private, business and philanthropic” engagements.  After paying a visit to the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital, Meghan attended a women’s homeless shelter run by McAuley Community Services for Women, where she met with survivors of family violence and learned more about the organisation’s work supporting women and children in crisis.  © Getty ImagesMeghan warmly greeted attendees Meghan’s light-hearted exchange   Donning a pinstriped apron, Meghan got down to business as she helped serve up some freshly made frittata, chatting warmly with those who had waited patiently in line. She was pleasantly surprised by one attendee, who paid the duchess a glowing compliment. “All right, Leah. How hungry are we?” asked Meghan while she carefully cut into the frittata. “You look amazing, you look like a model,” said Leah while she …

Mercedes are ominously fast, say rivals after Australian GP practice

Mercedes are ominously fast, say rivals after Australian GP practice

Mercedes are streets ahead of the pack going into Sunday’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix, according to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Although it was McLaren’s Oscar Piastri who finished day one of practice top of the timesheets, just ahead of the Mercedes duo of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, Leclerc said it was obvious which team had the quickest car. That is good news for George Russell, the bookmakers’ favourite for the title. “I think Mercedes are slowly showing a bit more of what they have, and in FP2 we are starting to see where we are lacking compared to them,” said Leclerc. “They are clearly very strong, especially in terms of race pace. “I don’t know how much margin they still have on qualifying pace, but in the race pace they seem to be very strong compared to us.” Mercedes’ pace in FP2 was a reversal from the first session of the day when all four Mercedes-powered teams – Mercedes, McLaren, Alpine and Williams – struggled. A sign, perhaps, of just how sensitive and capricious these …

Carlos Alcaraz wins historic Australian Open 2026 final against Novak Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz wins historic Australian Open 2026 final against Novak Djokovic

The match – which occupied three hours and two minutes – was a little slow to catch light as the two players split a pair of one-sided sets. But they locked horns and eyes in a riveting struggle during sets three and four, giving the fans in Melbourne a show to remember. After Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s pre-match rendition of Murder on the Dancefloor, these players delivered wonder on the hardcourt. Djokovic played with dead-eyed precision, landing four-fifths of his first serves with the accuracy of Luke Littler. Alcaraz, meanwhile, was skating around the court like an ice-hockey player. After seeing Alcaraz materialise out of nowhere to collect countless balls that no other player would have reached, Djokovic might find himself wondering where the Spaniard might pop up next. At the cinema? In his walk-in closet? “Everything is possible in his case, no question about it,” said Djokovic after the match. But he also made it clear that he had suffered a physical dip in the second and third sets. After needing more than four hours to …

When is it and how to watch Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz on TV

The Australian Open has a golden finale to look forward to on Sunday when Novak Djokovic faces Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles final. Djokovic is into his 11th Melbourne final after ending his streak of semi-final exits at four consecutive majors. Alcaraz is into his first title match at the Australian Open, and aiming to become the youngest man ever to complete a career Grand Slam. The semi-finals were both astonishing. In the first, Alcaraz, the world No 1, staged a fifth-set fightback to beat Alexander Zverev in match lasting five hours and 27 minutes. He then denied bending the rules to seek medical treatment for cramp. In the second semi, Djokovic rolled back the years to defeat two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner. The 38-year-old battled for four hours and nine minutes to clinch a 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory just after 1.30am on Saturday morning local time. Djokovic rolls back the years to beat Sinner in Melbourne semi-final – Sports

Novak Djokovic came back from behind to qualify for his 11th Australian Open final on Friday, taking down reigning champion Jannik Sinner in a five-set epic. The ten-time Melbourne champion will take on Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final. The Spaniard outlasted Alexander Zverev in the earlier semi-final, eventually coming out on top after a gruelling five-and-a-half hour match in which he struggled with cramps. Friday’s draw for the Champions League play-offs handed Paris Saint-Germain a familiar foe, as the holders were paired with league rivals Monaco for the February double-header. The winner of the all-Ligue 1 tie will face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the last 16.  Marseille will look to bounce back from their dramatic Champions League exit as they take on Paris FC in Ligue 1 on Saturday. In the matchday opener on Friday night, Lens provisionally reclaimed top spot from Paris Saint-Germain with a slender win over Le Havre. Former downhill Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn is now a doubt for next week’s Winter Olympics after crashing while competing at the Crans-Montana downhill …

De Minaur bursts Bublik bubble to reach Melbourne quarter-finals again

MELBOURNE, Jan 25 : Australian number one Alex de Minaur pierced 10th-seeded Kazakh Alexander Bublik’s defences with relentless pressure to secure a 6‑4 6‑1 6-1 win on Sunday and reach a second straight Australian Open quarter-final and seventh at the Grand Slams overall. De Minaur, who is looking to become the first Australian man to claim the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup since Mark Edmondson 50 years ago, will face top seed Carlos Alcaraz seeking a maiden win over the Spaniard for a place in the semi-finals. “The last two matches I have hit the ball extremely well,” said De Minaur. “So I’m super pleased with my level, I’m excited for the next one. That’s going to be a big one, right? I’m going to have to come out all guns blazing and I’m excited for a battle against Carlitos.” The first meeting between two top-10 men’s players at the Melbourne Park major this year pitted Bublik’s unpredictability against De Minaur’s court coverage, and it was the Australian who landed the first blow by winning a …

Gauff advances in Melbourne as Auger-Aliassime makes pained exit

MELBOURNE, Jan 19 : Coco Gauff kicked off her bid for a maiden Australian Open title with a thumping first-round win on Monday but men’s contender Felix Auger-Aliassime exited abruptly with a bout of cramp on a hot afternoon at Melbourne Park. After record crowds crammed into Melbourne Park on the opening day on Sunday, the venue was heaving again under cloudy skies, with home fans buzzing as local hero Alex de Minaur motored into the second round. There was also an encouraging win for three-times finalist Daniil Medvedev, while the high-seeded American duo of Amanda Anisimova and Jessica Pegula breezed through to the second round. With Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic headlining in the evening, twice Grand Slam champion Gauff had top billing during the day and lived up to it with a 6-2 6-3 win over Kamilla Rakhimova at Rod Laver Arena. After racking up 431 double-faults in 2025, by far the most of any player on the women’s tour, third seed Gauff sent down seven against world number 93 Rakhimova and was …

England reeling after 20 wickets fall on opening day of Melbourne Test

England reeling after 20 wickets fall on opening day of Melbourne Test

The drop in pitch has 10mm of grass, two more than the one in Perth which yielded 19 wickets on the first day of the series, so it was always going to be tough for batting especially with a nip in the air as strong as that off the pitch. The bounce was true and it was not dangerous, just tricky, and neither team has a batting line-up capable of surviving for long in those conditions if the bowlers find the right length. Certainly not those England batsmen out of nick and drained of confidence. They fell prodding, uncertain of how to play the situation. The ones that had the most success were Brook and Atkinson, who were willing to give it a go and commit to a counterattack. Most of the rest were out poking around to seaming balls. Duckett looks totally lost. He is embarrassed by the video footage of him drunk in Noosa and with Stokes urging his team to play a different style that does not suit Duckett’s game when he …
