Windows has a benchmark tool so good it makes you wonder why Microsoft never mentioned it

Ask anyone about benchmarking on Windows, and you’ll hear about Cinebench, CrystalDiskMark, 3DMark, or one of the many free benchmark programs for Windows that people swear by. All these third-party tools, yet nobody mentions the one Microsoft already built into every copy of Windows. That tool is WinSAT. It’s been sitting in your system since Vista, capable of scoring your CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage in seconds, and Microsoft has done almost nothing to tell you it exists. I stumbled on it while poking around the command line, and after running it on a few machines, I’m genuinely surprised this never got more attention. It’s not a replacement for specialized benchmarks, but for a quick hardware health check, it does more than you’d expect from a buried command-line tool. WinSAT is a built-in benchmark that Microsoft buried after removing the Windows Experience Index A capable tool hidden behind a forgotten interface WinSAT stands for Windows System Assessment Tool. It runs a series of synthetic tests that measure the performance of your CPU, RAM, storage, desktop …

Why Hasn’t Trump Mentioned Iran’s Oil?

Why Hasn’t Trump Mentioned Iran’s Oil?

In 1953, when President Dwight Eisenhower authorized the CIA to topple Iran’s elected prime minister, the American public was told a familiar story: Communism was creeping in, the Cold War demanded vigilance, and the United States could not afford another Moscow ally. But beneath the neat narrative of containment was a more tangible obsession—oil. Iran’s enormous reserves were not merely a strategic asset; they were a prize. Seven decades later, as military action once again engulfs Iran, a different president occupies the Oval Office—but the same obsession hangs in the air. President Trump has rarely considered a foreign conflict without musing, sometimes bluntly, about what the United States might take in return for intervening: Iraqi oil. Syrian oil. Venezuelan oil. Seizing valuable petroleum or other natural resources as repayment for American blood was a central tenet of Trump’s worldview long before he took office. Yet as bombs fall on Tehran and tensions grip both Washington and the Middle East, Trump has not uttered the line that once seemed to come so easily: We should take …

Stephen Colbert reacts to being mentioned in Epstein files

It looks as though Jon Stewart wasn’t the only late night host mentioned in the Epstein files. The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert has not also addressed being name-dropped in the most recently released batch of files, which contain information on the investigation into convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Fortunately, like Stewart, Colbert wasn’t actually involved in Epstein’s activities, and was only mentioned in emails. Specifically, one of Epstein’s associates recommended he watch Colbert’s explanation of Super PACs from his former show The Colbert Report. “Well, there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” quipped Colbert. “Just look at our new Times Square billboard: ‘The Late Show: It’s really funny — think Jeffrey will enjoy watching!’” Colbert also noted a few other names in the Epstein files which he considers particularly important as a giant Tolkien nerd. “These files contain the names of folks even more important to me than me, because Epstein also name-dropped Bilbo Baggins, and at one point he compared himself to Gandalf,” said Colbert. “All right, that is disgusting. In the immortal …

Prince Harry v Mail: Publisher accused of ‘wrecking lives’, as string of high-profile figures mentioned in court | Ents & Arts News

Prince Harry has personally attended the first day of his trial against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) at the Royal Courts of Justice in Central London. He, along with co-claimants Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish, campaigner Baroness Doreen Lawrence, politician Sir Simon Hughes, and actresses Sadie Frost and Liz Hurley, all allege ANL had a practice of “clear systematic and sustained use of unlawful information gathering”. Trump Impeachments No Longer Mentioned in Smithsonian Exhibit

Trump Impeachments No Longer Mentioned in Smithsonian Exhibit

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery has quietly removed wall text mentioning President Trump’s two impeachments after putting a new portrait of him on display in its “America’s Presidents” exhibition. The original label pointed to several of Trump’s political accomplishments, including his appointment of three Supreme Court justices and what it called a “historic comeback in the 2024 election” after his loss to Joe Biden four years earlier. It also noted that Trump had been impeached twice, for abuse of power and for inciting an insurrection after the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. The text added that he was acquitted by the Senate both times. Related Articles That reference to the impeachments had reportedly been a sore spot for the Trump administration for years. After Trump announced last year that he was firing Kim Sajet, then the gallery’s director, the White House drew up a list of complaints accusing her of political bias. Included in that list, which was shared with The New York Times, was the impeachment language that has now been …

This year, while speaking to Grammy winner Brandi Carlile, the topic of the HBO Max series, centered around gay hockey players, came up. When Cohen asked Carlile her thoughts on the show during a round of his game “Do lesbians give a damn?” Cooper shied away and began giggling uncontrollably. “It’s all I can think about. It’s all I can think about. I can’t even sleep at night without thinking about [the show],” Carlile responded. Cooper, meanwhile, was doubled over …
