Are Supermarkets ‘Taking The Mickey’ With Olive Oil Prices?

In 2024, Miguel Guzmán, the chief sales officer of Deoleo (a huge olive oil producer which owns brands like Bertolli), said prices were expected to drop by as much as half in early 2025. That’s because growing conditions had improved in Spain. “The market is expected to begin to stabilise, and normality is expected to be gradually restored as the new harvest progresses and supply increases,” he said at the time. But over a year on, Filippo Berio director Walter Zanre has said that supermarkets are “taking the mickey” with the prices they expect customers to pay for the product, despite lower wholesale costs. “We brought prices down twice last year and it’s not all been passed on to the consumer, which is a huge frustration,” he told Sky News. He added, “The supermarket was surprised at how resilient the shopper was at high prices, so the view is they don’t need to give it all away for nothing”. In other words, he suggested high prices made them realise just how much more UK shoppers …

’80s star Mickey Rourke evicted from longtime LA home following court judgement

’80s star Mickey Rourke evicted from longtime LA home following court judgement

Mickey Rourke has been evicted from his home in Los Angeles, according to a court judgement made on Monday. The court documents detail that his rental home, which he has reportedly lived in for more than a decade, would return to the possession of the landlord after the judgment was entered “by default”.  This means that Mickey likely did not respond to the initial complaint. The court also ordered that the rental agreement be canceled and the lease forfeited, with the judgment stating that it was for “possession only”, so the landlord would have control over the property but would receive no financial damages. According to court filings from December, Mickey had been ordered to repay the $59,100 he owed in rent to the landlord or vacate the property. He was seen moving out of the home in January and has been living in a hotel in West Hollywood ever since. © Getty ImagesMickey has been evicted from his LA home Mickey’s financial plight garnered publicity in January when his manager’s assistant created a GoFundMe …

An ‘Industry’ Season Four Exit Interview with Creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay

An ‘Industry’ Season Four Exit Interview with Creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay

Kay: I didn’t either. Down: They’re so wildly different from us, I felt like I’ve never really thought about them being reflections of where we are in our lives. I dunno, they kind of want different things than me and Konrad. [laughs] There are obvious reference points for a character like Whitney. There’s Bret Easton Ellis and Patrick Bateman. There’s Patricia Highsmith and Tom Ripley. But what was Whitney’s origin point for you guys? And how do you construct a character whose entire identity is self-constructed? Kay: Well, him being our peer is actually quite important in framing this question, when we think about it, because he’s obviously a sort of composite of all the things you just mentioned—and of the stuff he would’ve been reading. In a way, he’s a metatextual character, because his reference points for constructing himself would’ve been identical to what me and Mickey were drawing on in writing him. So you could look at him as a sort of a cipher or an avatar—but to us it was interesting to …

Funeral hears tribute to ‘people’s champion’ former Sinn Fein MP Mickey Brady

“I’ve read how office hours meant nothing to Mickey, no matter where or when you met him with a problem, his generosity of time and willingness ensured no one was turned away, a trait that Mickey carried right through up until just a few weeks ago, when, despite having retired the previous year, he was still filling out benefits forms and seeing people in our offices. What Mickey Mouse Reveals About Being Human

What Mickey Mouse Reveals About Being Human

Mickey Mouse is more than a simple animated character. He represents a particular emotion that most people experience before they have a chance to process what they’ve seen. From Mickey Mouse’s two black dots for his ears, his round-shaped head, his big doe-like eyes, and his expressionless smile, it is clear that one can understand Mickey Mouse without being told anything about him. The design of Mickey Mouse conveys specific universal characteristics that allow easy recognition from the least desirable location within a noisy movie theater (typically, the back row). In part, that recognizability has been achieved through careful choices about how to represent Mickey Mouse. The geometric shape of Mickey’s face (rounded) and large eyes are indicative of the infant stage of development, which makes him appear forgiving and approachable, as well as signaling his harmlessness. From an evolutionary standpoint, human beings developed the capacity to recognize an infant’s ability to communicate and defend themselves. The use of large eyes and a small nose is a universal feature shared across cultures. It elicits feelings …

Mickey Rourke, Peter Greene Star in ‘3 Days Rising’ Movie Trailer

Mickey Rourke and the late Peter Greene are among the notable stars of a forthcoming indie feature offering an updated take on a classic Edgar Allan Poe work. Director Craig Cukrowski’s psychological drama 3 Days Rising reimagines the short story The Fall of the House of Usher and boasts a cast that includes Rourke, Greene, Ice-T, Vincent Young and Kelly Monrow. The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively debut the movie’s trailer, seen below, before its planned debut on the festival circuit later this year. 3 Days Rising marks the final lead feature role for Greene, who died last month at 60 and was known for parts in Pulp Fiction, The Mask and Training Day. Cukrowski, who helmed the film from brother Derek Cukrowski’s script, had been friends with Greene for more than 20 years and notes that the actor’s real-life personality was much different from the hardened characters he portrayed. “He’s the exact opposite of his screen persona,” Craig Cukrowski tells THR. “He’s a very warm, caring, emotional person and very generous. That’s the side of …

Mickey Rourke tells fans he is not behind ‘humiliating’ $100k eviction fundraiser | Ents & Arts News

Hollywood star Mickey Rourke has told fans he is not behind a “humiliating” fundraising website set up to support him – and urged well-wishers to try and get their money back as the total reached almost $100,000. The Oscar-nominated actor and former boxer shared a video statement on Instagram saying he was “really frustrated” and “confused” by the page, titled “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home”, which was set up on crowdfunding platform GoFundMe over the weekend. “Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me, to donate money, like in a charity, and that’s not me,” Rourke told his 488,000 followers, saying he did not know who was behind it. “If I needed money I wouldn’t ask for no f***ing charity.” The GoFundMe page said Rourke was facing a “very real and urgent situation: the threat of eviction from his home”. The page organiser is listed as Liya-Joelle Jones, an assistant to Rourke’s manager, Kimberly Hines, and its description said it had been set up with his “full permission to help …

Mickey Rourke’s Manager Reveals Details Behind Controversial GoFundMe

Mickey Rourke’s Manager Reveals Details Behind Controversial GoFundMe

It’s been 48 hours Mickey Rourke would probably rather forget. The 1980s screen heartthrob, who earned a 2009 Oscar nomination for his comeback vehicle The Wrestler, found himself facing eviction from the Spanish bungalow in Los Angeles he has called home for over a decade. Out of funds, his manager of nine years, Kimberly Hines, and her assistant launched an emergency GoFundMe early Sunday to save Rourke, 73, from the threat of homelessness. After The Hollywood Reporter covered the fundraising effort and the media caught wind of the story, however, Rourke, ensconced in a West Hollywood hotel until he can relocate to a more permanent apartment in Koreatown, posted an Instagram video disavowing any knowledge of the “humiliating” fundraiser and pledging to return every “nickel” to worried fans. To clear up all the confusion over the GoFundMe, Hines called THR from Europe to walk us through the events that led to its launch — and offer an update on Rourke’s current status and well-being. Kimberly, can you clear up the confusion over Mickey’s GoFundMe? In the …

Mickey Rourke Denounces GoFundMe for His Eviction

The saga of Mickey Rourke‘s latest round of financial woes has taken another bizarre turn as the actor has released a video denouncing a GoFundMe set up in his name by his longtime manager, allegedly with his permission. The fundraiser, launched early Sunday morning, is nearing its $100,000 goal — money meant to help Rourke remain in his home after being served an eviction notice for falling $60,000 behind in rent. Seated with his beloved rescue dog Lucky on his lap, a distraught Rourke, in a fuchsia V-neck T-shirt and straw cowboy hat, addresses his nearly 500,000 Instagram followers. “Something’s come up that I’m really frustrated, confused and I don’t understand,” Rourke, 73, says. “Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money. A charity. “And that’s not me. If I needed money I wouldn’t ask for no charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger,” he continues. “Whoever did this, I don’t know why they did it. I wouldn’t know what a GoFundMe is in …

Actor Mickey Rourke forced to crowdfund to pay his rent

Mickey Rourke is facing the uncomfortable possibility of losing his home after reportedly falling tens of thousands of dollars behind on rent – prompting the Oscar-nominated actor to turn to crowdfunding for help. According to court filings released last week, the 73-year-old actor allegedly owes nearly $60,000 in unpaid rent at his Los Angeles residence and was formally served an eviction notice late last month. The notice reportedly gave Mickey just three days to pay the outstanding balance or vacate the property. Mickey Rourke in Celebrity Big Brother With the deadline looming, a GoFundMe campaign launched on Sunday, January 4, asking fans to help him stay housed.
