Man Calculates What Minimum Wage Should Be To Make Sense

Man Calculates What Minimum Wage Should Be To Make Sense

In 2023, Elyon Badger shared on TikTok that by doing the same math as when minimum wage was instituted, it should be $52 an hour by now. Three years later, not much has changed. We tend to think of minimum wage jobs as being for teenagers and the uneducated, a mindset that makes it easy to forget what it was intended to do when it was first implemented: provide a livable wage for everyone, no matter what kind of work they do.  That, of course, is not at all how it’s shaken out in the decades since. Though many states set their own standards, the federal minimum wage is a laughable $7.25 an hour and has been since 2009. Nobody can seriously argue that such a rate is reasonable, especially since what the math says the minimum wage should be is downright shocking. A man did the math and determined the minimum wage should be $52 an hour. The federal minimum wage was instituted in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for reasons that are still all too …

Worker Promoted Despite Doing Bare Minimum & Being Incompetent Explains How Anyone Can Do It

Worker Promoted Despite Doing Bare Minimum & Being Incompetent Explains How Anyone Can Do It

An anonymous employee admitted she achieved great success at her company, despite not really knowing how to do her job or even really trying. She credited her success to knowing how to impress the right people. Landing a high-paying job or finding job security is something that all of us hope for, but only some actually achieve. However, a handful of lucky people do find it, and very easily, at that. This woman, who works at a top technology company, is one of those people. In fact, her strategy was so good she was promoted seven times despite, as she described it, being completely “incompetent.” She spilled her secret strategy for “faking” her way into corporate success on the “Everybody Has A Secret” podcast. A worker said ‘befriending’ high-status people granted her 7 promotions, a high wage, and job security.  “I know basically zero about the business or industry,” the worker admitted. “I am not good at my job. I’m basically clueless. My secret is this … I’ve managed to befriend several people higher up in the business, earning …

Malaysia’s ‘aggressive’ move to double minimum expatriate salaries sends ‘strong’ signal to hire local

Malaysia’s ‘aggressive’ move to double minimum expatriate salaries sends ‘strong’ signal to hire local

But economist Geoffrey Williams, director of Williams Business Consultancy, said the claim that expatriates are taking jobs from locals is not true. “Firstly, there are too few expatriates to make that claim meaningful. Secondly, it is already costly to pay for visas, so they are not competitive in a cost sense,” he wrote in a post on LinkedIn. “Thirdly, expatriates are employed for very specific reasons based on experience and expertise. This will not change.” The Malaysian Immigration Department issued 180,812 EPs – including new applications and renewals – in 2025, up from 160,380 passes in 2024. Malaysia had 17.06 million employed people in October 2025. Williams told CNA it is not so much the comparison to regional countries that counts, but the way it has been communicated – “that Malaysia does not want expats somehow”. These changes have sparked fears among the expatriate community of being forced to leave once their contracts end, despite past contributions to local jobs and the economy. In its clarification document, the Home Affairs Ministry said contract extensions will …

‘Minimum Victory’

‘Minimum Victory’

On December 1, a group of prominent Ukrainian intellectuals and politicians published a manifesto in Ukrainska Pravda about how the war might end. “It is difficult to speak of victory,” it begins, “when the enemy is mounting unprecedented and at times successful ground attacks.” Already in August, when the group started drafting the text, Ukraine’s […] Source link
