The 84-year-old actor is best known for her roles in Yentl, Little Dorrit, Mulan, Romeo + Juliet and Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, for which she won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. Despite becoming one of Britain’s best-known actors over the last 60 years, Margolyes revealed that she can “spend rather more freely” than she would have been able to thanks to her earnings from Cameo – a video-sharing website where celebrities and notable figures are paid to send personalised messages to fans. ‘In this era of bland, blinking celebrity, Miriam Margolyes is an exception’

‘In this era of bland, blinking celebrity, Miriam Margolyes is an exception’

Add Miriam Margolyes Made Me Me to your watchlist Just three weeks ago, I wrote here about the deluge of TV shows with a celebrity’s name in the title, lamenting the low-quality content on our screens. Right on cue, along comes a BBC Two documentary with Miriam Margolyes’s name up front and centre, in which she basically wanders around, chats to a few people and, in her unique fashion, gets through her day. Is the result sub-optimal fare? As with many things, it seems Miriam is the exception that proves the rule. Simon Draper’s film, Miriam Margolyes Made Me Me, started out as a podcast until he, like everyone else, realised his subject is incapable of staying between the lines of any one format. Thus, when she’s not entertaining a sold-out Sydney Opera House or giving a gentle bollocking to a reporter who exaggerated her bad health (“people might not buy tickets to the show”), she’s firing off birthday instructions to paying fans on Cameo (“it’s good to have opinions”), changing her knickers (“you’re not …

Miriam Margolyes Asks Queen Camilla To Pass On Message For King Charles

Miriam Margolyes proved she wasn’t going to let anything stand in the way of being as unfiltered as ever during a recent public appearance with Queen Camilla. On Tuesday, the Bafta winner attended an International Women’s Day event at St James’s Palace, where fellow guests included Dame Helen Mirren and Hannah Waddingham. During the event, Miriam was greeted by the Queen, kissing her on the cheek and telling her: “Hello darling, how are you?” “Will you tell His Majesty that we love him and we want him to get better?” Miriam then asked, before insisting the monarch should “take no notice of anyone who criticises him, because he’s just wonderful”. “I will bear that in mind,” Queen Camilla responded, before thanking her and moving further down the line of guests. While Miriam primarily identifies as a socialist, she has expressed her admiration for King Charles on numerous occasions in the past. In 2023, the former Harry Potter star appeared on Waitrose’s Dish podcast, where she revealed that she once told Queen Camilla (with whom she …

Miriam Margolyes To Star In Her Own BBC Documentary

Miriam Margolyes To Star In Her Own BBC Documentary

Director Simon Draper apparently put the hour-long documentary together with iPhone footage, having initially hoped to create a podcast centred around Miriam. However, the candid footage was later used to create Miriam Margolyes Made Me Me, which will air on the BBC later this year, and explores the friendship between the two pals and collaborators. Simon told the US outlet: “I thought getting Miriam Margolyes to make a podcast would be easy, after all, everyone’s doing them, but Miriam’s lifestyle is bonkers. “In two years, we made just five episodes, but hanging out with her was life-changing. Mim’s a woman with strong opinions and a weak bladder, and I feel lucky to have been able to capture all the chaos and sparkle of the bravest, most honest person I know.” Source link
