Karoline Leavitt in Donald Trump’s phone number joke as she announces ‘my last gaggle’ | World | News

Karoline Leavitt joked about several members of the press having the mobile phone number of Donald Trump after the US President spoke to several news outlets in recent days. The heavily pregnant press secretary is expected to give birth to her second child next week, according to a White House official. Speaking to the press for what is likely the last time before giving birth, she said on Thursday: “I know all of you have the president’s phone number personally, so I have no doubt that you will have a shortage of statements and news from this building while I’m gone.” She also said: “This will likely be my last gaggle for some time. As you can see, I’m about ready to have a baby any minute, so I’ll see you guys very soon.” Since the start of the war in late February, President Trump has reportedly picked up the phone to more than 30 journalists, including the BBC. According to The Times, his personal number has become widely circulated among journalists and political figures …

Drivers warned that this worn out car part can be more dangerous than using a phone at the wheel

Everyone knows not to use a mobile phone while driving but it seems fewer people are as aware as they should be of slightly less obvious dangers. A new study has shown that with worn, but still legal, tyres, a car’s stopping distance is hugely increased. And that can make it more of a danger than if the driver were to use their mobile phone at the wheel. The study found the braking distance of a car travelling at 70mph with good tyres is 96 metres but this increases to 111.5 metres if the driver is distracted by their phone – and by 123 metres of the vehicle has worn tyres. The research was conducted by Professor Peter Wells, director of the Centre for Automotive Industry Research at Cardiff University, and commissioned by Halfords, reports BirminghamLive. Professor Wells said: “The impacts of phone usage and worn tyres have never been compared before and the study suggests that, purely from a stopping distance perspective, the impact of worn tyres is generally worse.” He added: “Of course, …

Major Labour Party goal threatened as payments ‘to slump by 90%’ | Politics | News

Britain’s plans for nationwide 5G will fall short unless ministers fix weak regulation, a cross-party group of MPs has warned. The representatives also want to see the Government aim to improve scrutiny of coverage data and tackle a lack of competition in the mobile market. The Digital Communities All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) says ministers should commission an “urgent, independent review of the UK’s digital connectivity framework, warning that current policy is being driven by incomplete data and poor accountability” in a new report. The group added that reliable mobile connectivity is essential for economic growth, public services and productivity, and emphasised that too many communities remain stuck with poor signal, despite official claims that coverage is improving. Serious concerns about the accuracy of telecoms regulator Ofcom’s coverage reporting were raised. MPs also warn that the system relies too heavily on modelling supplied by mobile operators themselves, which risks masking real-world problems experienced by households, businesses and emergency services. Helen Morgan MP, Chair of the Digital Communities APPG, said: “Without reliable access to high-speed services, the …
