Singapore monitoring ‘relevant standards’ amid safety concerns over hidden car door handles

Singapore monitoring ‘relevant standards’ amid safety concerns over hidden car door handles

“Drivers of vehicle models with emergency mechanical door release features are advised to familiarise themselves with the location and operation of the features,” said the LTA spokesperson. “This includes going through the owner’s manual for instructions and seeking advice from their vehicle retailers or last (owners) of the vehicles.” Electronic or hidden car door handles, introduced and popularised in the electric car industry by the 2012 launch of Tesla’s Model S, are folded into the body of the car, providing a slight boost to efficiency by reducing drag. China is the world’s largest EV market, and dozens of its brands have growing operations abroad. Chinese automaker BYD was Singapore’s best-selling car brand in 2025, capturing more than one-fifth of all new vehicle registrations. A total of 11,184 new BYD cars were registered last year, representing 21.2 per cent of the 52,678 cars registered. Tesla recorded 3,476 new registrations in Singapore last year, making it the second-most popular EV brand in the country. Source link

Ofsted plans closer monitoring of impact on heads’ wellbeing

Ofsted plans closer monitoring of impact on heads’ wellbeing

More from this theme Recent articles Ofsted has agreed to gather more feedback from school leaders on inspections’ impact on their wellbeing, as part of a deal with heads that will see a new “independent advisory group” launched. Unions have repeatedly warned Ofsted’s new education inspection framework (EIF), which assesses schools across more areas than before, means more pressure on leaders. The National Association of Head Teachers had been mulling industrial action over Ofsted’s five-point grading scale, after its application for a judicial review was thrown out by the High Court last year. The EIF was launched in November. But Schools Week understands the agreements reached with Ofsted this week have put plans for further action on ice. The inspectorate will add further questions on wellbeing to its existing survey of leaders about the new framework. The questions are still being drawn up. New advisory group planned The data, collected from a representative sample of schools, will then be scrutinised by an advisory group set up by the NAHT. Ofsted and the Department for Education …

Thai central bank flags gold trade curbs, plays down impact of US monitoring list

BANGKOK, Jan 30 : Thailand’s new rules to curb online gold trading were designed to help weaken the baht, the country’s central bank said on Friday as it downplayed any impact from the United States adding Thailand to its currency manipulation monitoring list. The central bank has blamed gold trading for driving up the value of the baht, which has gained 0.2 per cent against the dollar so far this year after a 9 per cent rise in 2025, threatening the competitiveness of Thailand’s crucial export and tourism sectors. Gold traders were responsible for a significant share of foreign‑exchange transactions during periods of baht appreciation, with fund inflows and the country’s current account surplus also contributing to the currency’s rise, Bank of Thailand Assistant Governor Pimpan Charoenkwan told a briefing. The central bank on Thursday issued new trading rules, including a previously announced cap on daily online gold trades at 50 million baht ($1.59 million) per person per platform. The rules, effective from March 1, require gold trading service providers to seek approval from the …

The only Linux command you need for monitoring network traffic – and how to use it

Marcus Millo/iStock/Getty Images Plus via Getty Images Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways There are several ways to monitor network traffic on Linux. You should regularly check on incoming and outgoing traffic. One of the best tools for this is iftop. Linux has a tool for everything. Sometimes those tools come in the form of an easy-to-use GUI, and other times a command is necessary. For monitoring network traffic, your best bet is the command line. Once you dive down the rabbit hole of possible commands for this task, you could become overwhelmed with choices — and with the complexity of some of those commands.  Also: The first 8 Linux commands every new user should learn I wanted to find an easier way to check network traffic, and it didn’t take long to find what I was looking for. The tool I used to use for this is Wireshark, but I’ve found it’s been a bit cumbersome over the years. Also, getting the Flatpak version of Wireshark working properly is a …

This single self-hosted dashboard replaced my entire monitoring setup

This single self-hosted dashboard replaced my entire monitoring setup

For years, I’ve self-hosted my automations, note apps, networking tools, and more. The more I self-hosted, the more fragmented my work became. Many days begin with navigating through several screens, windows, and dashboards to check the status of services, view system statistics, and confirm that none of my containers have stopped functioning overnight. These all changed when I started using Homepage. It didn’t replace any of my tools, but cut away the multiple windows, tabs, and screens by bringing all the most valuable information to a single page. It instantly replaced my most frequently used monitoring apps and made my days much calmer. Monitoring got easier the moment I stopped “checking” things Monitoring had always felt like a routine I must complete. I check Uptime Kuma, then Netdata or Glances, then Docker Desktop. These are all tools that I would recommend. The only downside was that they weren’t talking to each other, and checking them wasn’t a fast or fluid process. Yet, I had to go through the motions even when nothing was wrong. Homepage …

I switched to a USB-C hub with a touchscreen and it’s a game-changer for device monitoring

I switched to a USB-C hub with a touchscreen and it’s a game-changer for device monitoring

Chances are, you probably own or use a USB-C hub, dongle, or adapter to connect to your favorite devices and accessories. The switch to USB-C created one connector to rule them all, but it also marked the beginning of dongle life for many. If you use USB-A accessories, take photos or videos, or frequently hook up to external monitors, your laptop or tablet’s onboard ports likely won’t cut it. That’s why USB-C hubs and docks are a dime a dozen these days, but what if one offered something special? I’ve been testing the Dockcase Studio 8-in-1 USB-C hub for over a year (review sample provided by Dockcase), and this is a premium option that does just that. It supports all the connectivity specs you’d expect with a content creation focus, but its killer feature has nothing to do with ports or cables. This USB-C hub is unique because it offers a smart 1.9-inch touchscreen that can handle device management, reveal key diagnostics, and lend a hand during troubleshooting. It’s not the hub I use daily, …
