Is There Another MoonSwatch Type Collaboration on the Way?

Swatch is teasing something big for May 16th. It started over the weekend when a pair of newspaper advertisements with small bits of dials and a movement appeared in The Guardian. The ads seemed to suggest that Swatch was cooking up something similar to the MoonSwatch, a miracle series of high-low collaborations with Omega that caught fire in the industry. On Wednesday morning, Swatch shared a video with clues as to who this next partner may be. Which has us asking: Is there really about to be a Swatch-made version of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak?! All the signs seem to suggest that the Royal Oak is the next watch that Swatch will translate to the masses. The teaser video posted this morning flashes the word “Royal” in AP’s distinctive font followed by “Pop.” The use of bright colors suggests there will be a pop art spin on the recognizable Royal Oak. Mega-collector Mark Wahlberg knows his way around a fine Swiss watch. From complicated Patek Philippe world timers to white gold Rolex Submariners, he’s worn some of the finest pieces known to collectors. The actor isn’t above the charms of an affordable watch. Just last month he was spotted wearing a humble Timex Ironman—street price: $58—during the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Recently, Wahlberg posted a video of himself going to pick up the latest Omega and Swatch product, the Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold “Cold Moon.” “I got that Sky Moon,” he said, referring to a rare Patek Philippe, “now I got that Cold Moon,” he bragged. The new “Cold Moon” is the newest in a long line of limited-edition MoonSwatches. The model’s white dial and strap complemented Wahlberg’s monochromatic ensemble perfectly, but there are plenty more reasons Wahlberg probably coveted this watch. The “Cold Moon” features a cool “Earthpase” register that displays the Earth as viewed from the Moon—a complication unique to Swatch. Released late in 2024, the Mission to Earthphase has itself seen …
