Gaza’s Nasser Hospital condemns MSF decision to suspend most services

Gaza’s Nasser Hospital condemns MSF decision to suspend most services

CAIRO (AP) — One of Gaza’s last functioning large hospitals condemned the decision by Doctors Without Borders to pull out of operations over concerns about armed men, claiming on Sunday that the facility had installed civilian police for security. The rare public friction between two well-known health care providers in Gaza came as the Palestinian death toll since the current ceasefire surpassed 600. At least 11 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the last 24 hours, hospitals said. Doctors Without Borders, also known by its acronym MSF, said in a statement Saturday that all its noncritical medical operations at Nasser Hospital were suspended due to security breaches that posed “serious” threats to its teams and patients. MSF said there had been an increase in patients and staff seeing armed men in parts of the compound since the U.S.-brokered October ceasefire was reached. Nasser Hospital said Sunday the increase in armed men was due to a civilian police presence aimed at protecting patients and staff and said MSF’s “allegations are factually incorrect, irresponsible and pose …

Israel to halt MSF work in Gaza, NGO slams ‘pretext to obstruct’ aid

Israel announced Sunday it was terminating Doctors Without Borders’ humanitarian operations in Gaza after the charity failed to provide a list of Palestinian staff, a move MSF said was a “pretext” to obstruct aid to the war-devastated territory. In December, Israel announced it would prevent 37 aid organisations, including MSF, from working in Gaza from March 1 for failing to submit detailed information about their Palestinian employees, drawing widespread condemnation from NGOs and the United Nations. “The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism is moving to terminate the activities of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the Gaza Strip,” the ministry said on Sunday. The decision follows “MSF’s failure to submit lists of local employees, a requirement applicable to all humanitarian organisations operating in the region”, it added. The ministry had earlier alleged that two MSF employees had links with Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which the charity has vehemently denied. On Sunday, the ministry said MSF had committed in early January to sharing the staff list, but ultimately refrained. “Subsequently, MSF announced …

MSF says it will not hand over staff details to Israeli authorities | Israel-Palestine conflict News

Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, has said it will not provide Israeli authorities with the personal details of its staff working in Gaza and across the occupied Palestinian territory, citing concerns for staff safety and a lack of assurances over how the information would be used. The decision on Friday follows criticism of MSF’s statement last week that it was prepared to share the names of its staff under strict conditions – a position that sparked concern among aid workers and rights advocates. Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list The organisation has since said it was unable to secure the guarantees it sought from Israeli authorities and has now ruled out sharing any staff data “under the current circumstances”, citing risks to its workers’ safety. Israel demanded last year that several international aid organisations hand over detailed information about their staff, funding and operations as part of what it described as new “security and transparency standards”. The move has been widely criticised by humanitarian groups, who say it risks …

MSF Says It Will Not Share Staff Details Demanded by Israel to Access Gaza

GENEVA, Jan 30 (Reuters) – Medical charity ‌Medecins Sans Frontieres said on ‌Friday it will not submit lists of staff demanded by Israel to maintain access to Gaza and the West Bank after failing to receive assurances over ‍the safety of its teams. MSF, which supports and helps staff hospitals in the Gaza Strip, is one of 37 international organisations that Israel ordered this month to stop work in the Palestinian territories unless they meet new rules including providing employee details. The aid groups say sharing such staff information could pose a safety risk. Hundreds of aid workers have been killed or ‌injured during the war in Gaza. Israel’s diaspora ministry manages the registration process. In a statement ‌to Reuters, the ministry accused ‍Hamas of having exerted pressure on MSF. It provided no evidence but cited a statement by the Gaza health ministry on January 29 that rejected sharing data of health staff working with partner health institutions over concerns about the personal safety of workers. The ministry said MSF had not been in contact …

Aid to Gaza under threat: Dozens of NGOs to be barred under new Israeli rules

Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF) urged Israel to allow it to operate in Gaza and the occupied West Bank in 2026 amid fears that it – and dozens of other NGOS – could be barred from operating in the Palestinian territories because of new Israeli rules set to come into force on January 1.  The organisation has provided care to nearly half a million people in more than two years of war in Gaza, where it currently supports around 20 percent of the hospital beds and a third of births. “If MSF is prevented from working in Gaza, it will deprive hundreds of thousands of people from accessing medical care,” the group said, highlighting the life and death stakes for civilians already struggling to access health services.
