At a court hearing in Utah on Thursday, Third District Court Commissioner Russell Minas did not decide the custody of their son, Ever. He said parenting time will remain the same, but he will make a recommendation on any changes on or before May 11 and schedule a review for June. The protective orders mean they must not contact each other, and must remain at least 100 feet (30 meters) away from each other. Both parties had alleged incidents of domestic violence. The clause states that if a member of the EU is faced by “armed aggression,” other members have an obligation to come to its “aid and assistance by all the means in their power.” The clause does not specify whether such aid includes a military response, and contains language relevant to neutral states such as Austria and Ireland. The gaming out will be conducted in the EU’s Political and Security Committee, which is composed of senior EU diplomats. Most EU members also belong to NATO and so are covered by its Article 5 mutual defense clause, which does refer explicitly to the use of military force to aid other signatories. But transatlantic tensions, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of seizing Greenland, have shaken faith in Article 5 and sparked renewed interest in EU security arrangements. Via The Cradle A Pakistani military force arrived at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Air Base on Saturday, as part of a strategic defense pact between the two countries, the kingdom’s defense ministry has announced. The Pakistani force includes air force fighter jets and support aircraft. It was sent to Saudi Arabia to “enhance joint military cooperation, raise operational readiness, and support security and stability in the region,” the ministry’s statement said. Pakistan Air Force image The military deployment arrived following five weeks of US-Israeli attacks on Iran, and as ceasefire talks take place in Islamabad. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a strategic defense agreement last year involving joint deployments, intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses to regional threats. The pact commits both states to treat any attack on one as an attack on both, allowing the Gulf kingdom to benefit from the protection afforded by Pakistan’s nuclear weapons arsenal. Very often, when I listen to the stories people tell about their dog and others’ dogs, I all too often feel they are also talking about themselves and other humans. I have no proof of this possible relationship, so I was especially pleased to learn of Dr. Katharine Mershon’s new book, Dogs Save: Stories of Canine Redemption in US Culture. In her highly acclaimed book, Mershon critically examines stories of mutual rescue by analyzing “seemingly heartwarming stories of mutual rescue [that] revolve around redemption through suffering.” Ultimately, she melds religious studies and animal studies and shows that redemption narratives―what she calls “canine redemption narratives”―shape who survives and thrives. (The Conversation) — I’ve been living in Minneapolis and working on my doctoral dissertation about local religious communities since 2019. It’s given me a chance to personally witness how the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd by police officers, and the surge in federal law enforcement presence have fostered grassroots networks of what’s known broadly as “mutual aid.” Simply put, mutual aid is when communities work together to distribute resources people need to survive, whether it’s food, shelter, clothing or help paying bills. Unlike charity or government assistance, mutual aid is decentralized, grassroots-led and not channeled through nonprofits or government agencies. One reason why mutual aid flourishes in Minnesota is that it has deep roots in the state.
