Wunmi Mosaku Can’t Celebrate Oscar Nomination In ‘Dystopian’ Climate

Sinners actor Wunmi Mosaku has shared that she has complicated feelings about her recent Oscar nomination as a result of the current political climate. The British actor recently bagged her first Academy Award nomination for her performance as Annie in Sinners, one of a record-breaking 16 nods for Ryan Coogler’s hit movie at the upcoming Oscars. Speaking to The Times, Wunmi shared that she actually missed the live announcement of her nomination due to a mix-up involving timings. “I heard my husband on the phone and asked him why he was up,” she recalled. “He said, ‘Baby, you just got nominated for an Oscar’. I said, ‘No, the announcement’s at 8.30am’.” Wunmi continued: “I’ve not been able to celebrate because of what’s going on right now, with the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minnesota and the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy. “It’s difficult to hold both the nomination and the news because one feels beautiful and one is so dark and heavy; truly dystopian – how can I possibly …

Senate Banking Democrats demand delay on Warsh nomination

Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, during a Senate Armed Services Committee confirmation hearing in Washington, DC, US, on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. Aaron Schwartz | Bloomberg | Getty Images Democrats on the Senate Banking Committee demanded that Chair Tim Scott delay the nomination of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve until a pair of investigations into central bank Chair Jerome Powell and Governor Lisa Cook conclude. The Department of Justice is investigating potential criminal wrongdoing by Powell related to cost overruns on the renovation of the Fed’s headquarters. They are separately probing Cook, whom President Donald Trump has tried to fire, over allegations of mortgage fraud. Trump nominated Warsh last week to succeed Powell at the end of his term in May. The Democratic resistance all but assures that any one Republican senator will be able to hold up Warsh’s confirmation until the probes end. The Banking Committee is comprised of 13 Republicans and 11 Democrats, meaning one Republican defection on a nomination, along with all Democrats, will deadlock the panel and …

Kevin Warsh Fed nomination opposed by Tillis until Powell probe done

Kevin Warsh Fed nomination opposed by Tillis until Powell probe done

Sen. Thom Tillis said Friday that he will oppose President Donald Trump’s nomination of Kevin Warsh as Federal Reserve chair until the criminal probe of the current chair, Jerome Powell, is “fully” resolved. “Protecting the independence of the Federal Reserve from political interference or legal intimidation is non-negotiable,” the North Carolina Republican said in a statement on X. Tillis, who is set to retire, vowed earlier this month to oppose any new nominee for the Fed until the Department of Justice‘s controversial investigation of Powell is completed. Tillis is a member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, which has 13 Republicans and 11 Democrats. The refusal of a single Republican on that panel to vote for a presidential nominee would set up a stalemate that could leave Warsh’s nomination without a recommendation of approval by the full Senate. Powell has said he is under investigation by the DOJ, ostensibly in connection with the Fed’s multibillion-dollar renovation of its headquarters and his testimony to Congress about that project. Powell says the real reason …

Ed Harris Reacts to Wife Amy Madigan’s Oscar Nomination for ‘Weapons’

Ed Harris Reacts to Wife Amy Madigan’s Oscar Nomination for ‘Weapons’

It’s a good week for the Ed Harris and Amy Madigan household. The veteran actor touched down this weekend in Park City, Utah, where he was honored for his decades of work as a screenwriting labs adviser at Friday’s Celebrating Sundance Institute: A Tribute to Founder Robert Redford fundraiser at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley. Harris and director labs adviser Gyula Gazdag received inaugural Robert Redford Luminary Awards, presented to them by Amy Redford and Michelle Satter, respectively. While walking the red carpet ahead of the event, Harris spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how he feels about awards at this moment in time, and he promptly turned his attention toward his wife of 40 years, Amy Madigan. “My wife was just nominated for an Oscar,” he said. “So, in terms of awards at the moment, I think they’re cool.” Weapons fans think it’s pretty cool that the woman who slipped into the shoes of Aunt Gladys in Zach Cregger’s Warner Bros. film got singled out for her work in a horror film, a genre …

Elle Fanning’s Oscar nomination still undersells her year

Elle Fanning’s Oscar nomination still undersells her year

Versatility is an actor’s bread and butter. If a performer walks into an audition, they’ve got to be ready to read the lines however the script supervisor and director see fit. Do it again, but this time with a little more grit. Give us emotion. Give us anger. Give us power. Actors have to be ready to adjust at a moment’s notice. Flexibility is the name of the game, second only to talent. But versatility is also a lost art — collateral damage during the construction of the pipeline that directly funnels social media stars to the screen. In the age of self-tape auditions and Instagram industry connections, an actor’s artistic elasticity is deprioritized. What so often matters most these days is the size of an actor’s following or which established person can vouch for them. That’s also why, if you notice that an actor tends to play one type of role, it’s worth googling whether they have famous relatives. Fanning’s turn in “Predator: Badlands” would be striking as it is, but examined alongside “Sentimental …

The glossy longform advert for the world’s most expensive car race, or F1® the Movie as it prefers to be known, sent shockwaves around Hollywood when it was included this morning on the Academy’s 10-strong list of nominees for Best Picture. Many critics were not amused. This, after all, is a film that was dismissed as a “vanity project” when it was released last June. “F1 in Best Picture is like the real life version of the clown soldier lined up with the other soldiers,” observed writer Shea Serrano, referring to a popular meme, while sighed: “What are we doing here guys?” Keen observers of the Academy Awards were less surprised. After all, the whole reason the Academy increased the …

‘Sinners,’ Timothee Chalamet, and Emma Stone Just Set 2026 Oscar Nomination Records

‘Sinners,’ Timothee Chalamet, and Emma Stone Just Set 2026 Oscar Nomination Records

The 2026 Oscar nominations are in, and it’s clear the Academy feels that records are made to be broken. Sinners just made Oscar history, earning a grand total of 16 nominations—the most ever for a single film. Ryan Coogler’s historical vampire drama smashed the previous record, which for years was held by a trio of movies from three very different Hollywood eras: All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016). The perceived best-picture frontrunner, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, came just short of the now-broken record, scoring 13 nominations—though it missed out on a widely predicted nomination in leading actress for Chase Infiniti. Given the fact that Sinners overperformed—scoring an unexpected nod for Delroy Lindo in best supporting actor—and One Battle After Another slightly underperformed, perhaps the best-picture race isn’t as sewn up as pundits had previously believed. But Sinners wasn’t the only film—or the only person—to break records for this year’s Oscars. Thirty-year-old Timothée Chalamet became a four-time Oscar nominee today, picking up not one, but two nominations for …
