Ethan Hawke Channeled His “Outlaw Spirit” in Old-School Prada at Oscars 2026

Ethan Hawke Channeled His “Outlaw Spirit” in Old-School Prada at Oscars 2026

Back in 2002, when a then 31-year-old Hawke was nominated for best supporting actor for Training Day, “I don’t think I gave a second’s thought to what I was wearing,” Hawke laughs. “The first time is otherworldly. You feel like you’re in The Hunger Games, because you watch it as a kid and all of a sudden you’re stepping into it. I got to do it with Denzel [Washington], which made it incredibly fun, and he won [best actor], so we all felt like we were part of history.” Hawke has earned four more nominations since then, including best supporting actor for Boyhood (2014), best-adapted-screenplay nods for Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013), and his first best-actor nod for Blue Moon at the 2026 Oscars. Four of those five nominations have their origin in Hawke’s more than 30-plus-year collaboration with filmmaker and friend Richard Linklater. Proposed Oregon Initiative Would Outlaw Animal Agriculture and Hunting

Proposed Oregon Initiative Would Outlaw Animal Agriculture and Hunting

This article, Proposed Oregon Initiative Would Outlaw Animal Agriculture and Hunting, is republished from National Review’s The Corner with the permission of the author. All animals deserve a life free from cruelty. Note what would be included in the concept of “cruelty” under the proposed law. From the “About IP28” link: For those hearing about IP28 for the first time, this ballot initiative would remove many of the current exemptions from …

One country is trying to outlaw political lying, without curbing free speech

One country is trying to outlaw political lying, without curbing free speech

For the past two years, the Welsh parliament – or Senedd – has been grappling with how to tackle deliberate lying by politicians and how to rebuild public trust in democracy. There is broad agreement across parties in Wales that the current system offers few real consequences for dishonesty. As one Senedd member put it: “Lying flourishes in politics because we can get away with it”. That frustration has now translated into legislative action. A bill that would make it illegal to make false or misleading statements during Welsh election campaigns has passed its first stage in the Senedd. But while the principle behind the law commands support, the detail – and the speed at which it is being pushed forward – has triggered growing unease. The proposed ban will not be ready in time for the next Welsh election in May. Even if the legislation survives its remaining stages, it would not come into force until the 2030 election at the earliest. Ministers have suggested even that timetable may be optimistic. This has led …
