Spotify Makes Big Push Into Fitness With Peloton Partnership

Spotify Makes Big Push Into Fitness With Peloton Partnership

Spotify is making a big move into fitness.  The audio company has partnered with Peloton to give paid users access to more than 1,400 on-demand workout classes from Peloton instructors within the Spotify app. The classes will include outdoors runs, strength, cardio, yoga and meditation but will not include workouts on the Peloton bike. The feature launches April 27 and will include content in English, German and Spanish.  The move comes as Spotify has already seen increasing interest among its userbase in fitness. The platform includes more than 150 million active fitness playlists for users to listen to while working out. Roman Wasenmüller, Spotify’s vp, global head of podcasts, told The Hollywood Reporter that the existing health and wellness content on the app, populated by video and audio of mediation, yoga and strength workouts made by outside creators, has been seeing 30 percent growth year over year.  Adding in more fitness is a step to increase time spent on the platform, as well as to potentially pull in more users. It also fits into Spotify’s big …

Viral ‘Get ’Em Banned’ Peloton Instructor Kendall Toole Talks Movies With Tap In

I got to shoot a feature right before I started at USC. And then that film was supposed to take off at Sundance. It was at Berlin, and then there was all this drama and that careened off the tracks. I gave up acting, but I was like, “I don’t want to wait for someone to give me a job. I want to start writing movies and making movies and producing movies. I want to be the one making the decisions.” At USC, I had a mentor who’s a film director who is the reason why I got into boxing. He said, “You have a lot going on. Come by the gym.” And I fell in love with boxing. Boxing is what got me into teaching and fitness. And then that brought Peloton, and now here we are. There’s a performance aspect to leading these classes though it seems. Totally. You have eight cameras, it’s live-streamed. The format with Peloton is more about entertainment, I would argue, than it is even about fitness at a …

Peloton Institutes Mass Layoffs After Pivoting to AI

Peloton Institutes Mass Layoffs After Pivoting to AI

During the COVID-19 pandemic, stationary bike company Peloton was the talk of the town, allowing its customers to stay fit from the comfort of their own homes. But once people started reemerging into the world to once again hit the gym and ride their bikes outdoors, the company began to struggle, a tailspin that has been ongoing ever since. The company’s stock dropped by almost 30 percent in 2025 alone, while over 100,000 subscribers decided to part ways. In an unsurprising move, Peloton announced a flashy pivot to AI last year to drum up some much-needed enthusiasm amid the slump. (The company also used the new tech injection to justify a considerable price hike for subscribers.) A new slew of AI equipment, featuring cameras that watch your every move, was somehow even more expensive than their already considerably pricy lineup of exercise equipment. Sales were off to a rough start towards the end of last year, indicating consumers weren’t flocking to stores to buy a stationary bike with an AI-enabled camera. And shockingly, the company’s …

High-intensity Peloton use linked to mixed mental health outcomes for working mothers

High-intensity Peloton use linked to mixed mental health outcomes for working mothers

A new study in Mental Health and Physical Activity offers a detailed look at how high-intensity home exercise impacted the mental health of working mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings suggest that while parenting stress is a consistent predictor of lower quality of life, engaging in vigorous physical activity may offer specific psychological benefits. But the data also reveals complex and sometimes counterintuitive relationships between intense exercise and a mother’s sense of parental competence. The COVID-19 pandemic created a unique set of challenges for families, particularly for mothers who often bear a disproportionate share of caregiving responsibilities. Schools and childcare facilities closed, forcing many working mothers to manage their professional lives alongside increased domestic duties. Public health organizations documented significant rises in anxiety and depression during this period. With traditional support systems and gyms unavailable, many individuals sought autonomous ways to manage their well-being. Home-based fitness platforms grew in popularity as they provided accessible means to maintain physical activity. One such platform, Peloton, gained traction by offering structured workouts combined with social connectivity features. …

The best exercise bikes, tried and tested

Weight: 45kg Flywheel weight: 4kg Resistance levels: 30 Screen: No, but a tablet holder It’s been dubbed as the UK’s answer to Peloton, but the Apex Smart Bike is in a category of its own. It’s a (slightly) less expensive connected exercise bike, but the build quality is similar to that of Peloton. The cost is kept down by the lack of a touchscreen – instead, you use your own tablet (or phone, at a push) to stream classes via an app. The classes are of excellent quality, with experienced instructors and high-spec production. I particularly enjoyed the themed music rides, but there are plenty of others to choose from ranging from 15 minutes to an hour. There are also strength, mobility and beginner-friendly classes available. You don’t quite get the range of Peloton, which has a bank of thousands to choose from, but as Apex is new to the market, this will improve with time. It’s also worth noting that the trainers are British spin instructors, which may be more palatable to those who …
