Perpetrators of AI sexual abuse often view their actions as a joke, new research shows

A survey of over 7000 people in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States found that 3.2% of the population reports engaging in creating, sharing and/or threatening to share sexual deepfakes. Men, younger adults, non-white respondents, and individuals with a disability were more likely to engage in this behavior. 18% of people deliberately viewed these images, most often out of curiosity. The research was published in Computers in Human Behavior. Sexual deepfakes are synthetic sexual images, videos, or audio recordings created or altered with AI or other digital tools. They are usually created to make it appear that a real person is naked, engaged in sexual activity, or saying sexual things, even though this did not actually happen. A sexual deepfake can use a real person’s face, body, voice, or likeness, and combine it with fabricated sexual content. Many sexual deepfakes are nonconsensual, meaning the person depicted did not agree to the creation or sharing of the material. Investigators search for perpetrators of fatal assault of far-right activist in Lyon

Demonstration in tribute to Quentin D., called by the far-right identitarian group Les Natifs, in Paris, February 15, 2026. STEPHANE MAHE/REUTERS As politicized narratives clashed, judicial authorities proceeded with caution regarding the circumstances of the fatal assault of Quentin D, a 23-year-old student and nationalist activist who was beaten on Thursday, February 12, during a fight between radicalized groups in the streets of Lyon. “Police services have collected several significant testimonies. The investigation now focuses on identifying the direct authors of the violent and criminal offenses,” the Lyon prosecutor’s office said in a brief statement released Sunday. On Sunday evening, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez appeared on broadcaster France 2, where he described the act as a “lynching.” He said that the investigation should “confirm” or “refute” the hypothesis of involvement from the “ultraleft” and “members of the Jeune Garde,” an antifascist group founded in Lyon. Nuñez also asserted: “Clearly, it is the ultraleft.” The judicial authorities did not provide any additional information, intent on safeguarding the ongoing investigation. The preliminary investigation, which was originally opened …

How to involve men and boys in tackling misogyny? Start by treating them not just as perpetrators

How to involve men and boys in tackling misogyny? Start by treating them not just as perpetrators

Almost half (45%) of teachers across primary and secondary schools in the UK describe misogynistic attitudes and behaviour among boys as being a problem, according to a YouGov survey in 2025. Additionally, 54% of secondary school teachers indicate that boys very or fairly often openly express misogynistic attitudes or behaviour in school. This gives a sense of why the government is calling for a “whole of society” approach in its strategy to tackle violence against women and girls. The strategy, published in late December 2025, focuses largely on young people, and calls for a “generational shift” in awareness of violence against women. In addition to strengthening law enforcement responses and increasing support for victims, the strategy introduces measures to support young people who exhibit harmful behaviour. For example, a helpline to support those who display abusive behaviours in their romantic or family relationships. Another aspect is implementing the recently overhauled sex and relationships curriculum in schools. This includes topics such as misogyny, masculinity and harmful content and communities online. The government’s strategy largely uses gender-neutral …
