Called Personal Intelligence, it connects data from Gmail, Google Photos, Search history, and other Google apps to provide tailored responses. When searching for a product, I shouldn’t get the top picks. Results should reflect my past purchases and preferences. The name of Queen Elizabeth’s official biographer was announced on Sunday, and she will have access to a wealth of personal and official papers. Anna Keay, a British historian, has been named as the late monarch’s official biographer and will be able to talk to members of the royal family and the late Queen’s friends and household when researching the book. She will have access to her personal and official papers held in the Royal Archives. People always hold up their phones to record special moments at concerts, but they often never revisit those videos. Gigs, a new concert-tracking app launching this week, wants to change that. The iOS app helps live music fans turn their years of concerts, tickets, and photo and video memories into a personal archive with the help of Apple’s on-device AI. To add a concert to Gigs, users can import a ticket, email, screenshot, or even a website link, and the app will use Apple’s Foundation Models to extract the dates, venues, lineups, and other information to fill out the listing. For those who already track their concert history elsewhere, like Setlist.fm or Concert Archives, there’s the option to automatically import years of concert and festival attendance by linking their accounts. “Do you think I should consider freezing my eggs?” I posed this question to my grandmother and aunt recently as the reality set in that I’m about to turn 30. According to medical science, the older I get, the fewer chances I have for pregnancy. But as we approach Black Maternal Health Week, I find myself returning to that question, and my age isn’t the only thing giving me pause. Black women’s bodies have long been at the mercy of harsh surveillance, financial instability and health inequities. Because I have a Ph.D. in maternal and child health, I am well aware that maternal mortality among Black women has been a persistent inequity since the 1930s. In 2023, for example, the maternal mortality rate among Black women was 50.3 deaths per 100,000 live births and significantly higher than rates for white, Hispanic and Asian women. And though there was a slight dip in 2024 (44.8 deaths per 100,000 live births), the statistics remain frighteningly high. The higher rates of maternal deaths aren’t attributed to one singular …

Perplexity today launched Personal Computer, an expansion of Perplexity Computer that integrates with local files and apps on a Mac. Personal Computer was announced in March and was available on a waitlist basis, but it is officially rolling out today for Max subscribers. Perplexity Computer came out earlier this year, and it’s an all-in-one “digital worker” able to create and execute entire workflows. With today’s upgrade, it can run directly on a Mac with access to the file system and native apps. Pressing both Command keys on a Mac will activate Personal Computer, and it responds to text or voice commands. Personal Computer can work across any Mac app, and it can see active apps and display quick actions automatically. Perplexity says Personal Computer can run on any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, but the company recommends a Mac mini. A new petition on the parliament website has soared in support since it was created – and it is urging Ms Reeves to reverse her decision to freeze the lowest income tax threshold of £12,570 until 2031. In the November budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves extended the tax thresholds freeze to 2031. For the 2026/27 tax year, the standard UK Personal Allowance remains frozen at £12,570, meaning no income tax is paid on earnings up to this amount. Some of Britain’s most financially vulnerable workers face being taxed the moment their earnings exceed that figure – and because it has remained unchanged, inflation and wage growth mean that considerably more people are now liable for tax than would otherwise have been the case had it risen in line with historical precedent.
