Gareth Pierce has revealed the challenges of portraying Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) domestic abuse storyline in Coronation Street. A special standalone episode that aired today saw Todd bravely report his husband Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) to the police after being subjected to months of verbal, psychological and physical abuse. On the surface, the relationship seemed to be a step in the right direction for Todd, though Theo slowly began to show his true colours. He stripped away Todd’s finances, mocked his appearance and forced him to lose weight, and even held a knife to his chest earlier this year. When Todd collated secret camera footage to prove what was going on, Theo manipulated the videos to look like he was the victim. Earlier this week, a badly beaten Todd turned up on Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) doorstep, begging her for help and asking her to take him to the police station. FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — President Donald Trump has again denied a request from Colorado’s governor to help people affected by wildfires and flooding, consistent with his approval of major disaster aid to Republican-leaning states at about twice the rate he approves aid requests from Democratic ones. Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, sought major disaster declarations for wildfires that scorched 240 square miles (615 square kilometers) in the western part of the state and for floods that inundated mountain communities in southern Colorado last year. Polis requested FEMA public assistance, which enables communities to get reimbursed for debris cleanup and infrastructure rebuilding, as well as hazard-mitigation funding, which helps states build back with more resilience. Trump first denied Colorado’s requests late last year. On Monday, Trump upheld that decision on appeal after a “thorough review,” FEMA acting administrator Karen S. Evans told Polis in a pair of letters. The letters didn’t explain the denials in detail. The head of Rheinmetall, the German defence company, compared Ukrainian drone producers to housewives and children “playing with Lego”. Armin Papperger, the tough-talking chief executive, made the inflammatory remarks in an American magazine interview as he suggested that Ukraine did not deserve praise for battlefield innovation. When asked how Ukraine had turned drones into some of the deadliest weapons on earth against Russian troops and tanks, Mr Papperger scoffed: “This is how to play with Legos.” He added, in comments to Atlantic magazine, that the biggest producers of drones in Ukraine were housewives working with “3D printers in the kitchen, and they produce parts for the drones … this is not innovation”.
