Boss of British Greens plots review to junk unpopular policies – POLITICO

That official, and a second official, said one area earmarked for review is their migration policy, which they acknowledged causes real issues on the doorstep. The Greens’ policy principles state the party “wants to see a world without borders,” even if it would implement a “fair and humane system of managed immigration” before then.  In an interview with POLITICO earlier this month Polanski hinted at his frustration that voters appear to believe his party would throw open Britain’s borders. The Green leader recounted a conversation in the seaside town of Margate with a man who requested a selfie and claimed to be receptive to large swathes of the Greens’ offering, but was not in favor of its approach on drugs and immigration. Anthropic Plots Major London Expansion

Anthropic Plots Major London Expansion

Anthropic is moving into a new London office as it seeks to expand its research and commercial footprint in Europe, setting up a scrap between the leading AI labs for talent emerging from British universities. The company, which opened its first London office in 2023, is moving to the same neighborhood as Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Meta, Wayve, Isomorphic Labs, Synthesia, and various AI research institutions. Anthropic’s new, 158,000 square foot office footprint will have space enough for 800 people—four times its current headcount—giving it room to potentially outscale OpenAI, which itself recently announced an expansion in London. “Europe’s largest businesses and fastest-growing startups are choosing Claude, and we’re scaling to match,” says Pip White, head of EMEA North at Anthropic. “The UK combines ambitious enterprises and institutions that understand what’s at stake with AI safety with an exceptional pool of AI talent—we want to be where all of that comes together. UK government officials had reportedly attempted to coax Anthropic into expanding its presence in London after the company recently fell out with the US …

Netflix hits back at Matt Damon’s claim it simplifies plots for second-screen viewing

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Matt Damon recently accused Netflix of purposefully simplifying plots for viewers who might be watching titles while scrolling on their phones. But the streaming service has denied this is the case. The discussion around “second screen viewing” gained so much heat in Hollywood that it inspired a skit at the Oscars, in which host Conan O’Brien and guest Sterling K Brown performed a script that rewrote classic film Casablanca to reflect this demand. Netflix film chairman Dan Lin said executives in the room laughed the joke off, but insisted: “There’s no such principle.” Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Netflix thriller ‘The Rip’ (Netflix) Speaking at a press event on Wednesday (18 March), Lin added: “If you watch our movies or shows, we don’t repeat our plot, so I don’t know where that came from. We are focused on making great …

Emmerdale airs Back to the Future inspired car theft as Joe Tate plots revenge

Emmerdale airs Back to the Future inspired car theft as Joe Tate plots revenge

It’s not often that a DeLorean rolls into a quaint Yorkshire village, and given this is Emmerdale, it was pretty much a guarantee that it was going to be nicked. Earlier this week, resident multi-millionaire Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) showed step-son Evan one of his favourite films – the 1985 science fiction film Back to the Future, starring Michael J. Fox. The lads curled up on the sofa to watch the adventures of Marty McFly and his eccentric scientist mate Doc Brown, with Joe’s fiancée Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) warmed at the sight of him finally becoming somewhat of a family man. Kammy (Shebz Miah) and Vinny (Bradley Johnson) were chuffed to see Joe’s (Ned Porteous) new motor. ITV Inspired by the film, he’d gone out to buy his very own DeLorean sports car. Today’s episode saw Joe riding through the Yorkshire B-roads, quickly grabbing the attention of Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson). They were chuffed to find it parked up outside of David’s Shop, and cheekily asked if they could take …

Kraft Heinz’s Top Shareholder Berkshire Plots Exit

Kraft Heinz’s Top Shareholder Berkshire Plots Exit

Kraft Heinz shares are down about 7.5% in New York premarket trading, the biggest drop in just under four years, after the company filed an 8K allowing Berkshire Hathaway to sell up to 325.4 million shares of stock if it chooses to do so. Kraft Heinz’s permission to sell is not an actual sale. No shares have been sold as a result of this filing, and Berkshire is not obligated to sell anything. The proposed sale of the 325.4 million shares by Berkshire represents about 28% of the packaged-food company. This comes as the company recently announced plans to split into two. Berkshire’s Warren Buffett expressed disappointment last year about the potential split of the two companies. Berkshire played a critical role in the 2015 merger, partnering with 3G Capital as a financial backer. As a result of the 8K filing, Kraft Heinz shares were down 7.5% in premarket trading on Wednesday. If losses extend and hold through the cash session, this would mark the largest daily decline since May 18, 2022, of -9.5%. Kraft …

EastEnders airs Slater returns as killer Jasmine Fisher plots escape in early iPlayer release

**Warning: Contains major spoilers for the Monday 19th January 2026 episode of EastEnders, available now on BBC iPlayer.** EastEnders aired an emotional reunion for Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) and Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) on Monday – but Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) may be about to make the situation worse. The BBC One soap opera revealed at the end of last week that Jasmine was the person who killed her father, Dr Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), on Christmas Day 2025 in an act of self-defence. However, Jasmine shows little remorse for killing Anthony and is also willing to let Zoe go down for a crime she didn’t commit. In Monday’s episode, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) returned after weeks away, looking for Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) in Greece, after Jasmine helped convince Kat that Chrissie was responsible for Anthony’s death to frame Zoe as she did with Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) back in 2005. Kat revealed that hunting for Chrissie was a dead end and planned to visit Zoe, who viewers hadn’t seen since earlier this month, …

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Plots Reiterated for Distracted Viewers

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Plots Reiterated for Distracted Viewers

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are opening up about the changes Netflix has made to its filmmaking approach. During a Friday appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience to promote their new Netflix film The Rip, which they star in and produce, the duo discussed the differences between watching a movie in theaters versus at home and how phone-distracted viewers are influencing how films are made. “I went to see One Battle After Another on IMAX — there’s nothing like that feeling,” Damon said, recalling a trip he took with his family. “You’re in with you know a bunch of strangers, but people in your community and you’re having this experience together. I always say it’s more like going to church — you show up at an appointed time. It doesn’t wait for you.” Watching at home is a very different experience, Damon said. “You’re watching in a room, the lights are on, other shit’s going on, the kids are running around, the dogs are running around, whatever it is. It’s just a very different level …
