‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ review: This baffling prequel won’t cure the Season 5 hatred

‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ review: This baffling prequel won’t cure the Season 5 hatred

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 might be the most bizarre step Stranger Things could have taken. Take the release date, for starters. Tales From ’85 airs just four months after the Stranger Things series finale. That gives fans barely any breathing room between the end of the flagship series and the beginning of this animated spin-off, proof of Netflix’s ambitious, nonstop designs to turn one of its most original shows into a massive franchise. (It’s already got a stage play, books, and games to its name.) SEE ALSO: ‘Stranger Things’ fans are furious about the finale. Here’s why. There’s just one big wrinkle in that plan: Stranger Things‘ final season was so controversial, it left distraught fans theorizing about a secret surprise episode and accusing the Duffer Brothers of writing Season 5 with ChatGPT. The outrage is still too fresh for another TV trip to Hawkins, Indiana, to go the way Netflix hoped. That trip back to Hawkins doesn’t actually move the story of Stranger Things forward. Instead, Tales From ’85 returns to the past, …

Margot Robbie confirms story details for new Ocean’s Eleven prequel

We’ve been given some new plot details about the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel – with star Margot Robbie teasing that the film will focus on the parents of George Clooney’s character Danny Ocean. The news was confirmed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with the Barbie and Wuthering Heights star appearing during a sizzle reel that teased Warner Bros’ 2027 slate. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows – his parents,” she revealed. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” That certainly sounds like a fittingly glamorous setting for the movie, which will star Bradley Cooper alongside Robbie after the former replaced the previously announced Ryan Gosling in the cast. Cooper will also be helming the project – his fourth film as director following A Star Is Born, Maestro and Is This Thing On? – after Twisters and Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung departed the film due to creative differences last month. Bradley Cooper to Write, Direct ‘Oceans’ Prequel

Bradley Cooper has officially lined up his next directing gig, taking the helm of the upcoming Ocean’s prequel, which he will also star in alongside Margot Robbie. The news had long been in the ether, and during Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday, studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy confirmed the news. The film does not yet have a title, but has been dated for June 25, 2027. Cooper — who most recently directed Is This Thing On? — will also produce alongside Robbie’s LuckyChap banner. Robbie also made a virtual appearance earlier in the presentation, telling the Las Vegas room, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” Warner Bros. released a slew of release dates as well, including: horror sequel The Revenge of La Llorona (April 9, 2027); Evil Dead Wrath (April 7, 2028); Final Destination 7 (May 12, 2028); …

The Lord of the Rings prequel confirmed to recast a major character from original trilogy

Andy Serkis has provided fans with a major update about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Serkis, who will return to play Gollum and direct the film, confirmed that the role of Aragorn will be recast – with Viggo Mortensen not reprising his role. Addressing the cast speculation, Serkis told Screen Rant: “I don’t know what’s out there at the moment, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone.” The Hunt for Gollum will be set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, focusing on a previously untold story, as teased by Serkis himself. The actor has been sure to keep details of the film under wraps, telling the publication: “We’ve got to keep it all back. I mean, look, other than, I think it’s probably common knowledge, but our film takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and it’s The Hunt for …

House of Guinness star in first look at possible Killing Eve prequel

House of Guinness star in first look at possible Killing Eve prequel

The BBC has revealed first-look images of its upcoming “flirty” and “dangerous” spy thriller Honey, which is rumoured to be a Killing Eve prequel chronicling the early years of Carolyn Martens (Fiona Shaw). A co-production with Germany’s public service broadcaster ZDF, Honey stars Ann Skelly (House of Guinness) as an undercover MI6 agent in 1980s-era East Berlin, who finds herself in a most unexpected love triangle. The synopsis, courtesy of the BBC, teases that Martha (Skelly) will find her allegiances torn between the Stasi’s head of counterespionage Friedrich Bauman (Jannis Niewöhner) and “reckless, arrogant” CIA operative Aaron Neeland (Nate Mann). “She is blind-sided by desire in this Cold War menage-a-trois,” it continues. “The risk of being garrotted or incarcerated is nothing compared to the horrifying ordeal of falling in love. Nate Mann stars in Honey. BBC / Sid Gentle Films “Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and baring your heart and soul? She’d rather have her fingernails pulled out.” Last year, shortly after the show’s announcement, Deadline reported that Honey was secretly a prequel to Killing Eve …

Stranger Things set to return to Netflix as prequel is finally coming

It’s not quite time to say goodbye to Hawkins just yet! The Stranger Things stage show, The First Shadow, is officially set to be filmed and released on Netflix. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is set 24 years before the events of the Duffer Brothers’ hit sci-fi series, exploring the lives of young Jim Hopper and Joyce Maldonado, as well as showing Henry Creel’s chilling backstory. The show opened in London in 2023 and later transferred to Broadway. Collider has confirmed that a few days of performances, from 10th to 14th February, have been cancelled to facilitate filming. There is not currently a release date for the Netflix release. The performance will feature the show’s original Broadway cast, including Louis McCartney (Henry Creel), TR Knight (Victor Creel), Gabrielle Nevaeh (Patty Newby) and Alex Breaux (Dr Brenner). Breaux also played Lieutenant Robert Akers in the final season of Stranger Things. ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Showrunner Talks ‘Thrones’ Prequel

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Showrunner Talks ‘Thrones’ Prequel

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a different kind of Game of Thrones show, and Ira Parker is a different kind of Thrones-verse showrunner. As you’ve probably heard, the new HBO drama series tells the story of a penniless wandering “hedge knight,” Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his 10-year-old squire with a secret, nicknamed Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), as they enter a jousting tournament to try and improve their fortunes. The series doesn’t have magic, dragons or big battles. The tone is lighter than the original show or House of the Dragon. Also, at just six episodes, the season is quite short — and goes by faster than you might think as many episodes are less than 40 minutes long. Parker’s credits include the first season of House of the Dragon and Better Things. He comes across like a massive fan of George R.R Martin’s fantasy world who feels humbled and fortunate to have gotten the keys to HBO’s next Westeros kingdom — and really doesn’t want to muck it up. The …
