‘Michael’ Biopic Heads for Huge M-M in Previews

‘Michael’ Biopic Heads for Huge $12M-$13M in Previews

“Dream it. See it. Believe it. Make it happen.” That is one of the late Michael Jackson’s favorite expressions. It’s certainly one that would resonate with the “King of Pop” were he around for the opening of Antoine Fuqua’s long-awaited biopic of Jackson in theaters across the globe this weekend. In North America, Michael is on course to gross anywhere from $12 million to $13.5 million from Thursday previews and special Imax and other PLF sneaks on Wednesday night. That’s on par with the likes of event pics, including Dune: Part II or Oppenheimer, which both reported preview grosses in the $10 million range, not adjusted for inflation. The big unknown — how front-loaded Michael will be. One thing is clear: fans so far are over-the-moon for the film. Earlier in the day, the headlines instead were focused on Michael‘s worrisome RT critics’ score, which bounced between 29 percent and 33 percent (both fall in the “rotten” category). Many of the reviews seemingly took issue with the fact that producer Graham Kin, along with Lionsgate, …

Art Basel’s Basel Exclusive Will See Galleries Withhold Works from Previews

Art Basel’s Basel Exclusive Will See Galleries Withhold Works from Previews

With only two months before its marquee Swiss edition opens, Art Basel is hoping that a new initiative will help ensure that people make the trek to the Messeplatz to see art in-person. “Basel Exclusive,” as the fair is calling it, has a relatively simple premise: galleries will withhold at least one work, but up to their entire booth, from the PDF previews that they send out to clients ahead of the fair. Per a release, the initiative is meant to lean into one of the Swiss fair’s “defining strengths — discovery of the most exceptional works, in person, at the highest level.” Related Articles The initiative is open to any gallery participating in the main Galleries sector of Art Basel, which runs from June 18–21, with VIP preview days on June 16–17. So far 170 out of 232 exhibitors, or just under 75 percent, have signed on. The fair expects this figure to continue to rise in the coming weeks. They range from mega-galleries Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner to …

Book Lists and Previews Abound in This Month’s YA Book News Roundup

Book Lists and Previews Abound in This Month’s YA Book News Roundup

February went by in a flash, and at least here in the midwest, we got a little bit of everything. There were extremely cold days, some treacherous ice days, typical snowy days, and even a stretch of beautiful 50 and 60 degree days that were a reminder of that spring will be here soon. No matter how challenging the world may be, it is a fact that seasons shift and change–a constant and grounding truth. There wasn’t a whole lot happening on the news front in YA last month, though it did bring plenty of title previews. But that doesn’t mean the news that did happen isn’t worthy of sharing. Consider this roundup an appetizer before you shut down your big or small screen and swap it for one of those books on your virtual or physical TBR. Candace Fleming, known for her array of nonfiction for young readers, had quite the day when she was named recipient of more than one major award at the American Library Association’s Youth Media Awards. Here are the …

‘Scream 7’ Scares Up Record Previews

‘Scream 7’ Scares Up Record Previews

The good news continues for David Ellison’s Paramount less than 24 hours after learning the path has been cleared for the company to buy Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal that has left Hollywood rocked to its core. Despite a franchise-low critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, Scream 7 scored a franchise-best $7.8 million in previews, surpassing previous record-holder Scream VI ($5.7 million) and proving once again why some genres are, to a large degree, review-proof. From Spyglass Media and Paramount, the film expands everywhere today, and will be playing in 3,540 theaters in North America. Overseas, it is rolling out in 52 markets, including Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom, with seven additional markets to follow. (The series does best in English-speaking markets.) Paramount is forecasting a $40 million launch for the the slasher pic, which would mark the best three-day launch of the year to date. Tracking is more bullish, with the National Research Group projecting $45 million. If the leading firm is right, that would supplant Scream VI, …

Former BAFTA host Edith Bowman previews this year’s Film Awards – and names films she hopes will do well

Former BAFTA host Edith Bowman previews this year’s Film Awards – and names films she hopes will do well

Few people know the BAFTA Film Awards better than Edith Bowman. The Scottish broadcaster has worked extensively with the organisation for many years, frequently presenting the BAFTA Scotland Awards and even hosting the main ceremony itself alongside Dermot O’Leary back in 2021. She’s therefore uniquely positioned to speak about this Sunday’s upcoming awards, and so ahead of the ceremony Radio Times spoke exclusively with Bowman at BAFTA HQ in London’s Picadilly, to get the lowdown on what sets the BAFTAs apart from all the many other ceremonies that populate the increasingly lengthy awards circuit. With a huge number of terrific films featuring in this year’s nominations – from One Battle After Another to Sinners – Bowman also picked out a few films and performances that she’d been especially wowed by, as well as singing the praises for another tremendous year of British cinema. We were joined for the conversation by Zeena Hill, the director of marketing for BAFTA’s official screen partner Samsung Home Entertainment & Appliance, who also gave her verdict on which films she’d …

AMC previews its new show, ‘The Audacity,’ focused on Silicon Valley

AMC previews its new show, ‘The Audacity,’ focused on Silicon Valley

At CES 2026, AMC debuted clips from its upcoming TV series “The Audacity,” created by Jonathan Glatzer, a TV writer and producer for shows like “Succession,” “Better Call Saul,” and “Bloodline.” The new show will focus on how the men and women of Silicon Valley are shaping the world we live in today. “They’re literally laying the cement on the freeway that we’re all driving down with things like AI, data collection, social media, etc. And there couldn’t be any more important group, in my opinion, to be taking a deep-dive look at than the men and women in Silicon Valley who are shaping the lives that we live,” explained Dan McDermott, chief content officer at AMC Networks and president of AMC Studios, speaking at the Variety Entertainment Summit at CES. As one of the show’s actors, Billy Magnussen, noted, “Silicon Valley is one of those times in our modern era which is defining humanity. And what better place to make a dark comedy than in that place that develops our society at this point?” …

Google previews new Gemini features for TV at CES 2026

Google previews new Gemini features for TV at CES 2026

Google believes AI can improve the TV-watching experience, which is why it brought its Gemini AI to Google TV devices in November. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026) in Las Vegas, the company is now showing off a series of new Gemini features that will soon arrive on the TV, making it possible for viewers to deep dive into topics, search for and “reimagine” their personal photos and videos with AI, and, perhaps best of all, tell the TV what to do instead of having to navigate through complicated settings. The company is first bringing these Gemini features and others to select TCL televisions before rolling them out more broadly to other Google TV devices in the months ahead. Designed for large-screen experiences, Gemini for Google TV will allow users to talk to their TV to find something to watch, catch up on a favorite series by getting a recap of the plot, or get recommendations, all by using natural language conversation. For instance, you could ask Gemini for something to watch that would …

This week’s Radio Times previews the best shows coming this Christmas

This week’s Radio Times previews the best shows coming this Christmas

I can’t tell you how excited we get at Radio Times when Maria Fyfe, our peerless planning editor, reveals to us the programmes that are destined to shape the festive TV schedules. This happened a few weeks ago now but, as always, Maria reminded us that the information she had gathered was strictly confidential and we were sworn to secrecy, even from our own families. It’s a little like working for MI6. (All right, it’s nothing like working for the security services, but you get the idea.) So it’s with real pleasure that, in this week’s issue, we can finally start sharing some of those festive highlights with you. It’s not the full feast of what’s to come over the Christmas break, but it’s the very best of what’s to come in December, from Dames Judi Dench and Joanna Lumley telling us about their seasonal treats, to Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany talking about their ambitious long-form re-imagining of Peter Shaffer’s classic play, Amadeus. We’ve even tucked in a sneak peek at the New Year’s …
