Mysterious island discovered in Antarctica’s ‘danger zone’ – as big as Giza pyramid | World | News

Mysterious island discovered in Antarctica’s ‘danger zone’ – as big as Giza pyramid | World | News

Explorers travelling through the Antarctic’s Weddell Sea have discovered a mysterious island. While traversing an area marked as a “danger zone”, the 93-strong crew of the Polarstern were forced to seek shelter after running into rough weather. Next to Joinville Island, they spotted a mysterious brown landmass, which turned out to be an untouched island. Simon Dreutter, a specialist in underwater mapping at Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), said: “On our route, the nautical chart showed an area with unexplored dangers to navigation, but it wasn’t clear what it was or where the information came from. I scoured all the coastlines we had here in the bathymetry lab and went back to the bridge. “We then changed course and headed in that direction, and it became increasingly clear that we had an island in front of us.” The Polartern team came within 150 metres of the island and, using a drone, they were able to explore it from above. They determined it to be 130 metres long, 50 metres wide, and protruding about 16 metres above …

Why Is Everyone Losing Their Minds Over This Little Old Mars Pyramid?

Why Is Everyone Losing Their Minds Over This Little Old Mars Pyramid?

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech The pyramids in Egypt have long been a fixation for conspiracy theorists, who like to claim they were constructed by “ancient astronauts” that visited the Earth thousands of years ago to construct the epic monuments. So it shouldn’t come to much surprise that a pyramid-like shape on the surface of Mars is whipping the alien truther community into a frenzy. In a post, self-proclaimed “Mars disclosure journalist” Brian Dobbs showed off what appears to be a fairly symmetrical “three-sided pyramid the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.” The subject quickly drew the attention of tabloids, which published stories about “mysterious” and “bizarre” pyramids sparking “alien civilization theories” and purportedly bewildering scientists. Dobbs pointed to satellite images taken by NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in 2001. The sight is certainly striking, a major geological feature jutting out in the landscape with three even ridges connecting in a sharp peak. It’s located in the Candor Chasma, one of the …

Bombshell NASA photo shows ‘pyramid same size as Giza’ on Mars | Science | News

He believes the structure could be artificial, reports MailOnline. He said: “Were this found anywhere on Earth, we’d surely be digging into it.” Filmmaker Brian Dodds recently shared the images and said the structure was “the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt”. And while he admits it’s far from proof of ancient life on Mars, he says it does raise questions about whether or not another species could have once inhabited the planet. The “pyramid” is located in Candor Chasma, one of the largest canyons in the Valles Marineris canyon range. The range stretches almost a quarter of the circumference of Mars. It is thought that Valles Marineris was formed by a series of rift faults and later became enlarged due to erosion and collapsing of the rift walls. Nasa spacecraft are thought to have captured the pyramid-like structure on four occasions between 2001 and 2016. They say it has maintained a three-sided symmetry on each occasion, despite differences in lighting, image quality and seasonal conditions. Mars researcher George Haas has also backed the …

Egyptian Tour Guide Arrested After Drawing on Pyramid

Egyptian Tour Guide Arrested After Drawing on Pyramid

An Egyptian tour guide was arrested last week after video circulated on social media purportedly showing the man sketching a stick figure onto a pyramid. In the video, originally posted to X, the man is seen drawing the figure onto the wall of the Pyramid of Unas, built in the 24th century BCE and located in Saqqara, a funerary complex not far from the Pyramids of Giza. The man appeared to be speaking to tourists during the incident and is shown trying to wipe the drawing away with his hands. After the video went viral, Egyptian police found that the Saqqara Tourism Police Station had received a report from an antiquities inspector that a tour guide “had damaged an antiquity by drawing on the outer casing of one of the pyramids for the purpose of explaining to a group of tourists who were with him,” the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior said in a post on X. The drawing has since been removed, and the tour guide confessed to the incident. “Legal measures” were taken …

America’s new food pyramid hopes to change how the country eats

It represents the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans – advice on what types and quantities of food and drink make up a healthy diet. But the Trump administration’s new guidelines differ in many ways from previous versions. Most striking is the moralising language about “real” food and a stark shift of responsibility onto individuals, with all consideration of health equity stripped away. The change from the previous plate graphic to an inverted pyramid looks revolutionary at first glance. But dig deeper and the actual dietary advice hasn’t changed as much as the presentation suggests. The new website is eye-catching, with dramatic language about “restoring common sense”. Yet many recommendations mirror the 2020–25 guidelines that came …

RFK Jr.’s new food pyramid heads to school cafeterias as advocates cry for more funding

The release of a new food pyramid has been met with mixed reactions by school food advocates, who say changes to the cafeteria menu will need financial backing.   While there is skepticism regarding the science behind the new guidelines, which were unveiled last week by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., schools are more concerned about… Source link

The Pyramid Was Wrong. Local Food Was Right All Along

The Pyramid Was Wrong. Local Food Was Right All Along

Authored by Mollie Engelhart via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours), I never cared about the food pyramid. Not once. Not when it hung in classrooms, not when doctors repeated its logic, and not when federal agencies insisted that grains outranked everything else. Illustration by The Epoch Times, Shutterstock I grew up in a family where food wasn’t a recommendation—it was our economy and our culture. There was always a garden, always bulk bins of staples, always bread baked by hand. We preserved, canned, and stored what we could from the soil and orchard—cherries, apples, seasonal fruit—long before “farm-to-table” became a career path people marketed instead of lived. As I got older, even when I lived in immaculate golf-course communities, I kept returning to the same truth: Food should be grown, handled, and circulated locally. My chickens earned HOA violations. My vegetable beds violated CCRs. Planting fruit trees in my front yard went against neighborhood covenants. But nourishment was always my compass—not their rules. That compass shaped my career. I built restaurants around farmers and relationships, …

The Food Pyramid Is Back and Beefier Than Ever. Is That a Good Thing?

The Food Pyramid Is Back and Beefier Than Ever. Is That a Good Thing?

What is beefy, V-shaped, and obsessed with protein? We’re talking about the new—and notably, inverted—food pyramid that the Trump administration just unveiled as part of its updated dietary guidelines for Americans. The fact that we have new guidelines is not a surprise. They’re updated every five years, so a change was due. What’s notable this time around is that the government-backed recommendations go far beyond the minor tweaks we’ve become accustomed to in recent updates. And while some shifts are welcome—like limiting added sugars and avoiding highly processed foods—others fly in the face of well-established and ongoing research, leaving some nutrition experts scratching their heads. What do these guidelines mean for you? It’s worth clarifying right off the bat that these updated guidelines probably won’t impact your life very much, if at all. Nobody is coming for your Crunchwrap Supreme. “The dietary guidelines exist to inform what a healthy eating pattern should look like for your average healthy American,” says Gabby Headrick, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at the …
