Commentary: After first quarterly dip in nearly seven years, where are HDB resale prices headed?

But uncertainty could also push more private home owners to right size, particularly as they approach retirement. This would add to the demand for larger HDB flats, particularly those in more desirable locations. This was what we observed with the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, which saw a very small but growing number of HDB resale flats fetching at least S$1 million (US$787,340) and strong price growth for larger flats in non-mature towns such as Sembawang and Woodlands. That same year also saw the introduction of a 15-month wait-out period for former and current owners of private homes seeking to buy public housing flats. The restriction was aimed at cooling the HDB resale market for higher-priced flats, which was heating up partly due to demand from private property downgraders flush with capital. This underscored how periods of uncertainty can have implications for housing demand, especially as HDB flats are often seen as a more affordable option. WHAT IT MEANS FOR BUYERS AND SELLERS Despite heightened uncertainty and expectations of higher inflation, the HDB resale market is …

Nvidia Prepares to Release Its Quarterly Results as AI Fears Weigh on the Stock Market

Artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia on Wednesday will deliver a quarterly report likely to sway a jittery stock market as investors weigh whether the massive bets riding on technology’s latest craze will pay off. As has been the case since Nvidia’s chipsets emerged as AI’s best building blocks, the expectations are sky high for the results covering the company’s fiscal quarter, covering November through January. Industry analysts are projecting Nvidia’s revenue for that period will total $66.1 billion, a 68% increase from the previous year, while its profit is being forecast to rise at an even more robust pace of more than 70%, according to FactSet Research. Nvidia has regularly cleared the bar set by analysts during the past three years, often by a wide margin, but that hasn’t always been enough to satisfy investors who have become increasingly skeptical about whether AI will live up to all the hyperbole surrounding the technology. After Nvidia delivered a stellar performance that far exceeded analyst forecasts in its last quarterly report and CEO Jensen Huang hailed “off the …

Pinterest raises quarterly revenue forecast, boosted by tvScientific deal

Feb 18 : Pinterest on Wednesday raised its forecast for first-quarter revenue, to reflect a contribution to its financials from the newly acquired connected-TV (CTV) advertising platform tvScientific, sending its shares up more than 3 per cent. The company’s revised revenue forecast range, whose mid-point is above analysts’ estimates, comes less than a week of its previous one. It sees current-quarter revenue between $958 million and $978 million, up from an earlier $951 million to $971 million. Analysts expect $964.9 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. Pinterest also cut its adjusted EDITDA forecast to a range of $163 million to $183 million, from $166 million to $186 million, as it factors in integration‑related expenses and upfront investment tied to the tvScientific deal. The company’s revised forecasts come after a difficult week for its stock, which fell more than 20 per cent after Pinterest warned that earnings would be pressured by tariffs weighing on major U.S. retailers, intensifying concerns that advertisers may pull back heading into the quarter. The company’s stock is now down more …

Ford’s EV shakeup leads to its worst quarterly loss since 2008

Ford reported fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings after the market closed. Despite beating top-line estimates, Ford’s updated EV plans took a bigger toll than expected on profits. Ford Q4 and full-year 2025 earnings preview While Ford’s total US sales rose 6% in 2025 to over 2.2 million units, electric vehicles suffered a different fate. Ford sold just over 84,000 all-electric vehicles in the US last year, down 14.7% from 2024. To put that into perspective, crosstown rival GM sold 169,887 EVs in the US in 2025, up 48% from the prior year and more than double Ford’s sales. As part of its updated Ford+ plan, revealed in December, Ford is betting on new hybrids and lower-priced EVs based on its Universal EV (UEV) platform. The company plans to launch five new vehicles priced under $40,000, starting with a new midsize electric pickup in 2027.
