Up to the job? FBI chief Kash Patel’s ‘questionable’ conduct – Spotlight
A detailed report by The Atlantic’s Sarah Fitzpatrick raises many questions over the alleged excessive drinking and erratic behaviour of FBI Director Kash Patel. Patel has described the allegations as “fake news” and is threatening to take legal action against the publications. FRANCE 24’s Gavin Lee speaks to Sarah Fitzpatrick in this edition of Spotlight. A few weeks ago, FBI head Kash Patel was targeted by an apparent Iranian group of hackers that managed to get into his emails and published a series of unfortunate photographs. Fast forward to this week: allegations of excessive drinking, unexplained absences and paranoid behaviour on the part of Patel are being made in a detailed report, published in the renowned Atlantic magazine. He has denied the claims as fake news. The journalist behind the report, Sarah Fitzpatrick, spoke to a number of FBI officials who questioned Patel’s fitness for office. Source link
Mercedes confirms steer-by-wire for 2026 EQS with questionable steering wheel
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will introduce steer-by-wire technology in 2026, becoming the first German automaker to bring the system to production. The facelifted EQS electric sedan will be the first model to get it. Along with the new steering system, Mercedes is ditching the traditional round steering wheel for a flat-bottomed yoke design — and it’s a look that will divide opinion. Instead of a steering column, the system uses electronic signals to translate driver inputs into wheel movement. If skating’s history weren’t enough to make some side-eye yesterday’s ice dancing scores, there’s the added drama of who bested Chock and Bates: the newly formed French couple Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, who got a fractionally higher score of 90.18 for their dance to Madonna’s “Vogue.” Beaudry and Cizeron, who first teamed up last March, entered the Games amid a swirl of controversy regarding both of their past partners. According to former Olympian Adam Rippon in Netflix’s new three-part docuseries on ice dancing, Glitter and Gold, there’s something “sinister” surrounding the couple. Cizeron is the reigning 2022 Olympic champion; he won gold with Gabriella Papadakis. But the two retired after Beijing—or at least, Papadakis did. Pope cancels Holy See fundraising commission announced under questionable circumstances
ROME (AP) — Pope Leo XIV has taken his biggest step yet to correct one of Pope Francis’ more problematic financial moves, canceling a special Holy See fundraising commission that was announced under questionable circumstances while Francis was hospitalized. Leo on Thursday formally suppressed the fundraising commission, abrogated its statutes and fired its members. He decreed that its assets would go to the Holy See as a whole, and that the Vatican patrimony office would oversee the commission’s extinction. A new working group would be formed, with papally approved members, to come up with fundraising proposals and an appropriate structure going forward, the decree said. The decree was the latest sign that as 2025 comes to an end, history’s first American pope is wrapping up the loose ends of Francis’ pontificate. Leo is correcting problems as needed and fulfilling Francis’ Holy Year obligations as he looks ahead to the new year when he can focus more on his own agenda.
