iPhone 18 Could Come With 12GB of RAM

iPhone 18 Could Come With 12GB of RAM

Apple’s standard iPhone 18 could feature 12GB of memory for the first time, according to analyst Dan Nystedt. In a new post on X, Nystedt said that the standard ‌iPhone 18‌ will match the 12GB of RAM Apple gave the iPhone 17 Pro and ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌ Max last September. It would mark the first time the entry-level iPhone model has shipped with that much memory. Nystedt also flagged an earlier rumor claiming that Apple has secured TSMC’s first 2nm chip production run for the A20 chip set to power the ‌iPhone 18‌ lineup. According to that report, TSMC’s 2nm process delivers 15% better computing performance than 3nm, with no loss in power efficiency. The iPhone 17 series uses TSMC’s N3P ‌3nm‌ node. The jump to 12GB of RAM on the base model is likely tied to Apple Intelligence. Apple is expected to introduce expanded AI features with iOS 27, which the company is set to announce at WWDC on June 8. On-device AI workloads are memory-intensive, and keeping the entry-level iPhone capable of running …

This free Windows app turns your RAM usage graph into something actually readable

This free Windows app turns your RAM usage graph into something actually readable

There are times when you might notice the Task Manager tab showing your RAM usage at almost full levels, with no obvious culprit in the process list. The graph may be moving, but it’s not telling you anything useful. Enter RAMMap, a free, portable tool from Microsoft’s Sysinternals suite that replaces that ambiguous dashboard with a full breakdown of every memory allocation type on the system, whether it’s active, standby, caches, driver-locked, file-mapped, or more. It only takes a quick 30 seconds to download and run, needs no installation, and the first tab alone will probably help you see deeper into your RAM usage than you thought you could see. Task Manager’s Memory tab (in Performance) shows a single stacked graph of RAM in use, committed, cached, and paged/non-paged. It looks detailed, but really just collapses all the data into one visual. It’s essentially hiding what’s actually using the RAM on your PC. Resource Monitor can add a little more insight (Working Set, Private, Shareable columns per process), but still won’t tell you if it’s …

Android’s hidden memory monitor shows which apps are secretly draining your RAM

Android’s hidden memory monitor shows which apps are secretly draining your RAM

I opened Developer options on my Pixel 9 looking for something else entirely and stumbled across a Memory section I’d never noticed before. With just a few taps, I was looking at a full breakdown of which apps had been using RAM over the past 12 hours. I’ll never need a third-party app to discover memory use again. Android has included a built-in memory monitor since Android 6.0 Marshmallow, though it moved into Developer options starting in Android 8 Oreo, which is probably why most people have never seen it. The Memory section shows off stats like average memory usage, memory performance, total memory available, average memory used, how much free memory is available and how much each app uses. Now, Android is pretty good at managing memory (as is iOS), which is likely why this feature is hidden back in the Developer options area, but if your phone is having issues (or if you’re just curious what’s actually running on your phone), this is where to look. Meta Raises Prices on Quest 3 and Quest 3S Due to RAM Shortage

Meta Raises Prices on Quest 3 and Quest 3S Due to RAM Shortage

Meta’s latest virtual reality headset, the Meta Quest 3 (512 GB), will cost $100 more starting Sunday. You can blame the ongoing RAM shortage.  Meta released the pricing update on Wednesday in a blog post calling out price increases for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S models. “The cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly,” Meta said in the post explaining the increase.  High demand from AI data centers is straining memory chip supplies, causing supply constraints and price increases in consumer tech. Many experts aren’t expecting the RAM shortage to end until 2028.  Counterpoint Research released findings in February showing that RAM costs increased by 80% to 90% in the first quarter of this year. Tech companies continue to hike prices, with Microsoft being the latest to increase the cost of the Microsoft Surface and Samsung doing the same for some Galaxy devices.  Watch this: Meta Quest 3S Review: The Best of the Quest 2 and 3 09:02 Here’s the original pricing as of Thursday, along with what you can expect to pay starting April 19.  Price changes for Meta Quest 3 …

RAM 3500 driver switches to EV, and the savings are SHOCKING

RAM 3500 driver switches to EV, and the savings are SHOCKING

How much can drivers really save by trading their ICE truck for an EV? One driver parked his trusty 2023 RAM 3500 diesel and drove a new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV for a few days — and his real-world fuel savings are impossible to ignore. America is full of rural communities that are miles away from its major cities, both geographically and culturally – but that doesn’t mean these more sparsely populated regions can’t reap the benefits of electrification. In fact, EVs offer rural drivers even more benefits than they do to city-dwellers. That’s truer than ever these days, with diesel prices climbing past $6.00 per gallon in many parts of the country (and approaching $8 in parts of California), it’s more expensive than ever to haul sailboat fuel around town in a big pickup truck. “Diesel is sitting around roughly $6.00/gal. on average,” writes Robert Wallace, a certified energy manager and self-proclaimed rural energy innovator. “My [2023] RAM [3500] gets about 17 MPG, which means every time I drive a mile it’s costing me $0.35.” This week, though, Wallace got …

I set up a RAM disk on Linux with one line of code and my apps have never loaded faster

I set up a RAM disk on Linux with one line of code and my apps have never loaded faster

After setting up a quick Linux build, my system still felt a bit off. This wasn’t a case of crashing programs nor the regular bugs you expect on a fresh setup. Things were just a second slower than I would like. Installs seemed to drag, and I saw minor delays during routine tasks. This was a bit puzzling because I had low RAM usage and my SSD was fine. So, I decided to change how my system handles constant small reads and writes by switching to a RAM disk, which required a single fstab entry and redirecting some high-activity folders. It’s the most instant I have ever seen a system go from lagging to fast. Where a RAM disk actually makes a difference It’s not about everything—it’s about the right kind of workload When you use a RAM disk, you are effectively treating a section of your memory like a storage drive. It’s not just a technique for improved raw speed. It actually dramatically reduces latency, especially for workflows that require frequent small-file reads and …
