A taxi driver who raped and sexually assaulted a vulnerable passenger after picking her up from a night out has been jailed for seven years. Thomas Tosh, 39, was found guilty of attacking the 23-year-old woman at his home in Drumchapel, Glasgow, while she was intoxicated and incapable of giving consent. Prosecutors at Scotland’s Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), said Tosh collected the victim and her friends from a pub in nearby Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, in the early hours of 30 September 2023. After dropping off all of the passengers apart from the woman, Tosh marked the fare as complete and logged out of the taxi’s GPS tracking system. He then drove in the opposite direction to where he was supposed to take her and instead brought her to his home, where he raped her. Two hours later, Tosh logged back in to the tracking system after dropping the woman off at her home. A man who admitted the religiously aggravated rape of a Sikh woman has been warned he could face life in jail. John Ashby, 32, admitted charges of rape, robbery, intentional strangulation and religiously aggravated assault at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday. Ashby, of no fixed abode, asked to see his barrister and changed his pleas around an hour after being sworn at and told to “sort your s*** out” by a member of the public who approached the dock. The outburst, which the judge described as an “ugly incident”, occurred after Ashby began mumbling during the Crown’s evidence. His victim, a Sikh woman who was hit with a stick, had been due to enter the witness box to give evidence against Ashby later on Tuesday. The execution of a former Florida police officer, convicted of raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl, has been temporarily halted by the state’s Supreme Court. James Aren Duckett, 68, was scheduled to receive a three-drug injection on Tuesday at Florida State Prison near Starke. Duckett was sentenced to death in 1988 after being found guilty of first-degree murder and sexual battery. As part of his appeals process, he had sought DNA testing, arguing it could prove his innocence. A circuit court granted this request, and the testing is still pending. The Florida Supreme Court has now ordered the state to provide an update on the DNA testing’s status by 5 p.m. on Friday. Should the stay not be lifted by Tuesday, the future timing of the execution remains uncertain. With a record 19 executions last year, Republican Gov. The UCLA Police Department has arrested a Santa Monica man on suspicion of kidnapping two female UCLA students and, in a separate incident, raping a woman unaffiliated with the university. Officers arrested Alexander Schecter, 26, at his Santa Monica residence on Friday and booked him on one count of rape by force, one count of forcible oral copulation, one count of robbery, one count of extortion and one count of battery, police said. He is not believed to be affiliated with the university, and his case will be presented to the L.A. County district attorney’s office for filing consideration. Alexander Schecter was booked on multiple charges. Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators. A woman has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after falsely accusing 10 men of raping her. Stacey Sharples, 31, from Farnworth in Bolton, pleaded guilty on Monday at Bolton Crown Court to 10 counts of perverting the course of justice. The allegations were made between 2013 and 2019, with most of the men arrested and spending time in custody, including some undertaking intimate examinations, said Greater Manchester Police. They added that a number of the men lost their jobs or partners, were disowned by family and friends, or saw declines in their mental health after being falsely branded a rapist. Greater Manchester Police said the investigation into Sharples began after lines of inquiry “consistently” revealed evidence contrary to what had been disclosed by her. The force said there was a “continuous, wilful making of false allegations” by Sharples, who knew “full well the consequences for each of the men involved”. A migrant from Afghanistan has been jailed for 10 years for the rape of a “vulnerable, intoxicated” woman. Musafar Hotak, 25, was convicted after a trial at Southampton Crown Court of the rape and sexual assault by penetration of the woman in the early hours of 12 July 2022. The court heard that the victim had left the Cafe Parfait bar in Southampton after being asked to leave by the bouncers for being drunk. A man has appeared in court to deny drugging his wife to rape and sexually assault her along with other men.    The defendant, who is in his 60s, but cannot be named for legal reasons, entered not guilty pleas to 48 offences. He is accused of drugging his wife in order to rape and sexually assault her on his own over more than two decades, dating back to the early 2000s. Between 2023 and his arrest last year, he allegedly invited other men to sexually assault and rape his wife while she was unconscious. He appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court along with 12 other men, aged between 28 and 73, who also cannot be identified. All are charged with conspiracy offences, and all but two are alleged to have also committed so-called contact sexual offences.
