The original Boomslang came from the era of Xbox’s bulky Duke controller. We had just barely made it past the N64’s beloved three-pronged abomination. At a time when “ergonomics” was a novel idea to be explored instead of a defined concept, this design was a lot more palatable. It’s still a gaming mouse in theory, even if the vast majority of them will spend more time on a shelf than on a mousepad, so I do need to talk about whether it can game. Shockingly enough, it’s not that bad. The shape is unusual, yes. Compared to a standard mouse, the Boomslang is low-slung and wide. It feels like it was designed for an Elite from Halo to hold, their two central fingers and a thumb on each side. It is bizarre and ancient feeling, but it’s not bad. Putting your hand on this mouse, you have to rethink where everything goes. Your thumb curls underneath the main hump, and your pinky mirrors it on the opposite side. Razer today introduced a new 16-inch laptop sleeve that has an integrated wireless charging feature for smartphones and other small devices like earbuds. Priced at $130, the sleeve includes two MagSafe-compatible wireless charging zones, so it can charge an iPhone and AirPods at the same time. The wireless charger is integrated into the top of the laptop sleeve, and the magnets serve as a clasp when the sleeve is closed and being used to transport a laptop. Power is delivered through a USB-C cable that can be plugged into a 30W+ power adapter or a Mac. Charging speeds are limited to 15W, so you won’t get full speed wireless charging on newer iPhones that support up to 25W wireless charging. The screen on the right side is convenient and practical. I appreciate the gimmick of the actuation visualizer, which is a small line of dots that illuminates from left to right as you push down a key. It can help with determining and setting an ideal actuation distance, but beyond that, it’s almost entirely aesthetic. The rest of the indicators on the keyboard are nice, but they are underwhelming compared to the full OLED screens that many gaming keyboards have today. The rarely used cluster of keys above the arrow keys now has a secondary purpose, where each of them can be used with the Function layer to select one of five preset profiles. Four of them are customizable, but the first, called “Factory Default,” seemingly functions as a fail-safe in case you royally mess up another profile map (such as remapping your space bar to your controller’s “A” button—something the software actually warns you against if you attempt it).
