The House of Commons voted against the move by 335 to 223 on Tuesday night, with a majority of Labour MPs rowing in behind the Prime Minister. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has accused Starmer of misleading Parliament in his claim that due process was fully followed in the appointment of Mandelson as UK ambassador to the US. The PM has apologised for his decision to appoint the former Labour cabinet minister, but insisted that due process was followed throughout. Google seems to have a Google addiction. If you click on a hyperlink in Google’s chatbot-style search tool, AI Mode, you are likely to be looped into another Google search, according to a new study from SE Ranking, a search engine optimization company. Currently, Google.com is the most commonly linked site in AI Mode. Many website owners and publishers have relied heavily on Google Search as their primary source of visitors and have complained about declines in traffic over the past few years as the tech giant has prominently featured generative AI summaries in search results, through AI Overviews and AI Mode. Liz Reid, Google’s head of Search, has previously disputed reports about traffic declines and described AI tools as driving “highly quality clicks” to these sites. “Even if you’re saying that people click on those citations all the time, well, there’s nothing to click on, because it just takes you to another Google result,” says Mordy Oberstein, an SEO expert and head of brand at SE Ranking. Panayiotou’s remarks leave “no room for interpretation: a term that is abusive, stigmatizing and offensive to thousands of our fellow citizens,” the committee said, adding that the use of this term cannot be disguised as humor. “It is a gross insult to people with intellectual disabilities, to athletes who struggle daily against prejudice and exclusion,” the organization said.  Given Panayiotou’s position as an MEP, “the issue is not simply moral, it is deeply political and institutional,” the committee said.  The committee wants the MEP to publicly apologize for using the derogatory term and “to take a stance that promotes respect and awareness.”  Source link
