Paris’s Museum of Romantic Life reopens with a fresh new look

Paris’s Museum of Romantic Life reopens with a fresh new look

The Musée de la Vie romantique, Paris, in February 2026. JEAN-BAPTISTE GURLIAT/CITY OF PARIS As the Musée de la Vie Romantique reopens in Paris on Saturday, February 14, after a year and a half of renovations, regular visitors will likely be surprised to discover the new brown hue of the shutters, which were previously a lovely almond green. This new note lends the two-story house, nestled at the back of a garden shaded by century-old trees, the appearance of an Italian villa (though some other trees have unfortunately been cut down). “For the woodwork and window frames, we tried to restore the house’s original color, as it was built in 1830,” explained Gaëlle Rio, the museum’s director. In the absence of more precise documentation, the teams – Basalt Architecture and Atelier àkiko Designers – relied on a painting of the house held in the Netherlands’ Dordrechts Museum for guidance. In the same spirit, the facade now sports a more noticeable ecru shade, achieved with a limewash “made using traditional methods,” which also provides better insulation …

Palestinians allowed in to Gaza and patients are evacuated to Egypt as the Rafah crossing reopens

CAIRO (AP) — A dozen Palestinian returnees were allowed into Gaza from Egypt late Monday after the long-awaited reopening of the Rafah border crossing was marred by delays. Their arrival came hours after a small group of medical evacuees was ferried from the territory into Egypt. The reopening of the crossing marked a key step in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire but mostly a symbolic one, with few people allowed to travel and no goods allowed to pass through. The limitations were apparent Monday as crossings fell well short of the 50 people officials had said would be allowed to move in each direction. About 20,000 Palestinian children and adults needing medical care hope to leave the devastated territory via the crossing, according to Gaza health officials. Thousands of other Palestinians outside the territory hope to enter and return home. The crossing had been closed since Israeli troops seized it in May 2024. The number of travelers is expected to increase over time if the system is successful. Israel has said it and Egypt will vet people …

Rafah crossing between Israel and Egypt reopens after nearly two years

The Rafah border crossing, Gaza’s main gateway to the world, reopened Monday for the first time in nearly two years, allowing a small number of Palestinians to start returning to the war-devastated enclave, expediting medical evacuations and fulfilling the final major requirement of the first phase of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire designed to end the war. Mohammed Arafat/AP hide caption toggle caption Mohammed Arafat/AP CAIRO — Gaza’s Rafah border crossing with Egypt reopened on Monday for limited traffic, a key step as the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire moves ahead, according to Egyptian and Israeli security officials. An Egyptian official said 50 Palestinians would cross in each direction in the first day of the crossing’s operation. The official, involved in talks related the implementation of the ceasefire deal, spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the issue. State-run Egyptian media and an Israeli security official also confirmed the reopening, which for now at least, is largely symbolic. Few people will be allowed to travel in either direction, and no goods will be allowed to enter. As Rafah reopens, Palestinians are ‘given an impossible choice’ | Gaza

As the Rafah crossing reopens, there are concerns over how restricted exits and particularly re-entries will be for Palestinians. Dr Mohammed Tahir, a trauma surgeon who volunteered in Gaza, says people fear that opting for medical treatment abroad may mean they will never return. Rafah crossing partially reopens amid continued violence across Gaza – POLITICO

“The Rafah crossing has reopened for movement of people only,” Israel’s Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) said Sunday in a statement on X. “Today, a pilot is underway to test and assess the operation of the crossing. The movement of residents in both directions, entry and exit to and from Gaza, is expected to begin tomorrow,” it said. “Exit from and entry into the Gaza Strip via the Rafah crossing will be permitted in coordination with Egypt, following prior security clearance of individuals by Israel, and under the supervision of the European Union mission, similar to the mechanism implemented in January 2025,” COGAT said in an earlier post on social media. Israel announced separately on Sunday that it was terminating the operations of Doctors Without Borders in Gaza, accusing the group of failing to submit lists of its Palestinian staff — a requirement Israeli authorities say applies to all aid organizations in the territory. Doctors Without Borders said on Friday that it would not share a list of its Palestinian and international …

Israel partially reopens Gaza’s Rafah crossing

RAFAH: Israel partially reopened the Rafah crossing between the devastated Gaza Strip and Egypt on Sunday (Feb 1) following months of urging from humanitarian organisations, though access is limited to the movement of people. The reopening comes as violence continues despite a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory, with Gaza’s civil defence agency reporting dozens killed in Israeli attacks on Saturday. The Israeli military said it was retaliating against violations of the truce. The Rafah crossing is a vital gateway for both civilians and aid, but it had remained closed since Israeli forces seized control of it in May 2024 during the war with Hamas, aside from a brief and limited reopening in early 2025. COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry body coordinating Palestinian civilian affairs, said Sunday that the “Rafah Crossing was opened today for the limited passage of residents only”. An official at Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority, said that about 200 patients were waiting to be permitted to leave the territory once the crossing opened. Meanwhile, a group of “around 40 …

Mercedes re-opens EQ orders, CLA sales start in US

Mercedes re-opens EQ orders, CLA sales start in US

Mercedes’ EQ line of EVs are back in US dealerships, after a roughly six month pause in orders. At the same time, the new electric CLA is just starting to hit the market. In July, Mercedes abruptly paused new EV orders in the US, blaming “market conditions.” It was somewhat of a strange move at the time, given that it was the beginning of what turned out to be a record quarter for overall EV sales in the US, ahead of republicans inflating the price of every EV by $7,500. This suggests that “market conditions” at the time were in fact quite good for EVs, whereas for the next couple quarters, EV sales will probably suffer from the hangover due to that pull-forward in demand. But, Mercedes wasn’t wrong that the EV market would be disrupted, along with many markets in the US, due to chaotic tariff policy. And Mercedes buyers mostly didn’t qualify for the tax credit anyway – though they still could do so through leasing. Advertisement – scroll for more content But …
