Repeated doses of psilocybin show promise for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder

Repeated doses of psilocybin show promise for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder

A new clinical trial suggests that multiple doses of psilocybin, the active compound in “magic mushrooms,” could provide substantial relief for individuals suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder. The findings indicate that repeated weekly treatments are safe and tend to significantly reduce the severity of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. This research, published in the https://doi.org/10.1177/02698811261424214” target=”_blank”>Journal of Psychopharmacology, provides evidence for a new potential treatment avenue for those who have not found success with standard therapies. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a debilitating psychiatric condition characterized by intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors. These symptoms consume a significant amount of time and can severely disrupt daily functioning. Current standard treatments typically include a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and daily medications like serotonin reuptake inhibitors. However, these traditional approaches often fall short for many patients. People frequently experience delayed or incomplete symptom relief, and they sometimes struggle to adhere to the treatments due to unwanted side effects. Because of these challenges, scientists have sought alternative therapeutic approaches that might offer faster or more robust relief. Psilocybin has recently emerged …

YouTube Terminates Clavicular’s Channels for ‘Repeated Violations’

YouTube Terminates Clavicular’s Channels for ‘Repeated Violations’

YouTube has terminated “Looksmaxxing” influencer and streamer Clavicular‘s two channels for “severe or repeated violations.” The controversial creator, whose real name is Braden Peters, took to X on Thursday to ask his fans to help recover his @LiveWithClav and @ClavLooksmax accounts. “Very sad news this morning. My YouTube channels @ LiveWithClav & @ ClavLooksmax were terminated this morning with no warning or explanation,” he wrote. “The channels consisted of livestream VODs and free courses created by me to help empower young men to be the best versions of themselves.” The streamer continued, “Me and my team worked hard to ensure we followed YouTube’s TOS very strictly, blurring out all inappropriate language and sensitive topics. Could you please help in recovering my accounts?” Though Clavicular claims YouTube didn’t give him an explanation for the move, in the emails he received from the video platform, it clearly listed community guideline violations as the reason. The platform also gave Clavicular the same explanation for removing both accounts. “We have reviewed your content and found severe or repeated violations …

£22m fine for South East Water over repeated supply failures | UK News

South East Water is to be fined £22m for repeated supply failures, watchdog Ofwat has said. The fine relates to the water company’s supply interruptions in Kent and Sussex between 2020 and 2023, which affected more than 286,000 people. It is also under investigation for outages over the last four months. Ofwat said the fine “reflects the severity of the issues”. A consultation is open to the public and shareholders until 13 April, before the watchdog confirms its final decision. You need javascript enabled to view this content Enable javascript to share Share From 2023: ‘We might wake up with no water at all’ Chris Walters, interim CEO at Ofwat, said: “South East Water’s significant failings caused major disruption and had a huge impact on thousands of its customers. “Not only did the company fail in its duty to provide a water supply to meet the demands of its customers, but it also fell short when it came to providing support for customers who lost their supply. They must do better. “This investigation gets to …

The long-term effects of repeated head trauma in football

The long-term effects of repeated head trauma in football

Scores on a memory test dropped as football experience rose, and the pattern held across thousands of former players. This trend was the focus of a large analysis of retired American football players aged 40 and older. Researchers compared men who played the sport with a control group that reported no prior history of repeated head trauma due to contact sports. Additionally, the control group reported no head trauma from military service or substance abuse. Overall, men who played football had poorer scores on memory tests and reported more cognitive problems. In addition, participants in the football group with longer careers and higher levels of competition experienced poorer cognitive performance than their peers. The current study uses data from the Head Impact & Trauma Surveillance Study, or HITSS. This is a nationwide study within the Brain Health Registry at the University of California, San Francisco. It has more than 100,000 participants. These participants will be followed into the future. Participants in HITSS completed a 90-minute battery of online questionnaires and cognitive assessments. Ancient Ocean Volcanoes Linked to Repeated Triassic Extinctions

Ancient Ocean Volcanoes Linked to Repeated Triassic Extinctions

Mass extinction events throughout Earth’s history are characterized as significant disruptions to life on the planet. There have been five major extinction events that have fundamentally changed how life exists on Earth; however, many smaller but equally significant extinction events also occurred. The primary focus of scientists regarding mass extinction events has been on identifying what caused the five major extinction events. There has not been nearly as much work done to determine what caused the many lower-level extinction events that occurred repeatedly, especially during the Triassic Period, when life experienced repeated failures to recover. Research conducted by Jian-Jun Fan and his co-authors from the College of Earth Sciences at Jilin University, provides insight into the mystery of what triggered these lower-level extinctions. They studied volcanic deposits formed along the Tibetan Plateau, a region that was once part of a large ocean. Their findings, published last month in the journal Geology, provide evidence that repeated volcanic eruptions at the ocean floor were responsible for causing at least four extinction events in marine organisms during the …

My mother repeated one idiom throughout my life: ‘you want beauty, you don’t want life’ | Family

My mother repeated one idiom throughout my life: ‘you want beauty, you don’t want life’ | Family

In news that will delight my enemies, I believe there’s a chance I’ll die young and by accidental means. To clarify, I’m currently in excellent health (sorry to my enemies), but I’m sensing a spectacular midlife crisis on the horizon that could spell the end. Maybe it’ll be an overdose in a seedy nightclub. Maybe I’ll drink myself into oblivion. Maybe I’ll get kicked in the head during an orgy. Whatever it is, it’ll be the result of a botched attempt at compensating for a lifetime of being the world’s most risk averse, law-abiding scaredy cat who is terrified of physical danger. Let me explain. I don’t smoke. I don’t do drugs. I’ve never been drunk. (I drink, but never enough that I’ve ever vomited, passed out, or needed a designated driver.) I don’t have tattoos. I don’t like jaywalking and when I do try it, I feel nervous about it. In other words, I’m boring, and often fear the worst. If being cool means having an air of nonchalance, I am firmly “chalant”. Sometimes …
