Chinese Workers Horrified as Bosses Direct Them to Train Their AI Replacements

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech For years, a buzzy Silicon Valley startup called Mercor has been hiring an army of desperate job-seekers — often including educated and underemployed experts — to train AI models to replace them in the workforce. It’s a grim facet of an AI-dominated future in which the business world continues to push for automation, hoping to wean itself off relying on pesky and expensive human labor once and for all. As MIT Tech Review reports, an eerily similar situation is now playing out in China. Workers told the publication that their bosses are directing them to painstakingly document their workflows with the eventual goal of automating specific tasks using AI agents, such as OpenClaw, an open-source piece of software that has become immensely popular in the country. Chinese employees already got an early glimpse of what an AI agent-led future could look like. A GitHub project called Colleague Skill, which was originally set up as a joke, went viral …

BBC bosses ‘to interview Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly replacements’

BBC bosses reportedly plan to hold Strictly Come Dancing presenter auditions this week. Nine stars are in contention for the Strictly jobs, after Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly quit the hit TV series in 2025. A source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s not just about reading autocue. They’ll be looking at how people work together and humour is a massive part of it. There’s everything to play for.” The likes of Rylan Clark, Emma Willis, Tom Allen, Angela Scanlon and Alex Jones are all in contention for the Strictly roles. However, BBC bosses are said to be approaching the auditions with an open mind. The insider shared: “They really want to bring the fun this year. It’s all about chemistry and who clicks instantly and can keep the energy up live on air. “They could stick with two female hosts as that’s worked brilliantly. But they’re also open to mixing it up. “If Rylan and Tom Allen click, that could be a hilarious pairing. Equally, they could even introduce a third presenter to shake things …

Jeremy Clarkson gives verdict on The Grand Tour replacements

Just over a month ago, the new hosts for The Grand Tour were confirmed, with Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman and Thomas Holland taking over where Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond left off. Now, Clarkson has revealed his thoughts on the new cast – and he has firmly given them his seal of approval. While Clarkson was appearing on the podcast My Week in Cars, co-host Matt Prior said of The Grand Tour: “We’ve been doing this for three years, and so we find ourselves talking about car programs and the fact that it’s not here anymore…” He was then cut off by Clarkson, who clarified: “It’s coming back.” Prior said, “Well, yes,” before Clarkson cut in again to say: “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no – don’t be hasty. Do not be hasty.” James Engelsman, Thomas Holland and Francis Bourgeois in The Grand Tour. Prime Video Clarkson explained that the show’s producer Andy Wilman is still involved, and said that “I’ve seen the guys being chosen in the early days, and I’ve …

Meet the next generation of Game of Thrones replacements

Meet the next generation of Game of Thrones replacements

Game of Thrones was the most culturally dominant TV show of the 2010s, the most popular show in HBO’s history, and the most successful fantasy series in many years. Other studios and streamers tried to cash in by making their own high fantasy series, mostly to no avail. Fans seemed to enjoy The Witcher on Netflix…for the first couple seasons, until public opinion soured. Prime Video readied two high fantasy series: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which has largely been a let-down; and The Wheel of Time, which Amazon stupidly canceled just as it was finding its footing. Even House of the Dragon, a direct prequel to Game of Thrones, hasn’t been the runaway success HBO was hoping for; its first season was widely praised, but fans were far more divided on season 2, and are currently in the middle of a two-year wait for season 3. With middling results like that, you might think that Hollywood would want to put the high fantasy trend to bed, but it now feels …
