DoorDash Reservations Scored America’s Most Exclusive Restaurants

At The Eighty-Six in Manhattan, exclusivity is the point. The luxe, 11-table steakhouse is the sort of place that lavishes caviar and aged mimolette cheese on its potatoes, and crows that your market-price duck was raised by one Dr. Joe Jurgielewicz, DVM, in the rural hills of Pennsylvania. Taylor Swift has reportedly dined there in a Miu Miu skirt. Reservations are a scarce commodity that the restaurant, and New York law forbids you from selling one. “Access is the main asset,” wrote food writer Helen Rosner in a recent New Yorker review of The Eighty-Six. “The product is the door, and what a door! An impossible door!” What may be more surprising is that arguably New York’s most exclusive restaurant will set aside space for diners only via “table drops” for The Eighty-Six on DoorDash, a food logistics app that until recently placed its bets on the notion that you’d rather eat burritos at home. After acquiring hospitality tech company SevenRooms last year, DoorDash has plunged whole-body into a raging war with competing tech companies …

Tickets went on sale this morning, and according to Noma chef-founder René Redzepi, the entire run sold out in 60 seconds. “We’re so sorry to everyone trying to book tables for Noma L.A.,” he posted to his Instagram stories this morning. “We’ve sold out faster than ever before. Please add yourself to the wait list as cancellations happen. Martin, known for his graphic storytelling, was taken aback by the opening scene of HBO Max’s new Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Set about 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the spinoff stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, a young and naive but courageous knight, and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), as they face dangerous exploits along their wanderings. It’s based on Martin’s 1998 novella The Hedge Knight. Early in the show’s Sunday premiere, as Duncan grieves the death of his liege lord Ser Arlan of Pennytree (Danny Webb), he is suddenly inspired to enter a jousting tournament despite being an inexperienced jouster. His “aha” moment is underscored by a swelling soundtrack before the scene abruptly cuts to Duncan projectile defecating behind a tree. “Yeah, that was …

Moon Hotel Now Taking Reservations

Moon Hotel Now Taking Reservations

Illustration by Tag Hartman-Simkins / Futurism. Source: GRU / Getty Images Do you want to stay at the first ever hotel on the Moon? Well, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny — an initial deposit between $250,000 and $1 million — just to secure your stay. That’s what a startup called GRU Space — the letters apparently stand for “Galactic Resource Utilization” — is offering to would-be vacationers after the company opened its website for online reservations this week, as reported by Ars Technica. If all goes to according to plan, the first truly one-star hotel will start accommodating guests in the 2030s. It all sounds pretty far fetched, according to Ars, especially since the company has only two full-time employees, including founder Skyler Chan who graduated from University of California, Berkeley last year. But the company does have seed funding from startup accelerator Y Combinator, so while it’s clearly a castle in the sky, at least there’s some money behind it. “I realized I was born in this time where we can …

After ICE officers booked rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton canceled their reservations, DHS said in a post on social media platform X. The department also posted screenshots of ‌emails, in which the hotel’s operators said they had “noticed an influx ‌of GOV reservations ‍made today that have been for DHS,” and that they were not allowing any ICE agents to stay at the property. Hilton Worldwide Holdings said the property is independently owned and operated and is investigating the matter. “Hilton works with governments, law enforcement and community leaders around the world to ensure our properties are open and inviting to everyone,” a spokesperson said in a statement.  Federal officials in recent weeks have portrayed Minnesota’s Somali community as a hotspot for fraud involving millions of federal dollars intended for social services. …
