The BBC has unveiled the new host of the Radio 2 breakfast show, following the abrupt departure of Scott Mills. At the end of March, it was announced that Mills had been fired by the BBC effective immediately after almost 30 years at the broadcaster. On Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed that Sara Cox will take over the role moving forward. Sara said she was “ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed” to be taking on the role, which she said had been her “dream” since joining Radio 2. “It feels like a bit of a full circle for me,” she enthused. Currently, Sara presents Radio 2′s teatime show, a position she’s held since 2019. She previously hosted the Radio 1 breakfast show between 2000 and 2003. “I’ve had the most glorious seven years of my career on teatime so thank you to my brilliant teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests,” Sarah added, noting that she “can’t wait to wake the nation …
It’s been a tumultuous few months over at the BBC, which is still in “shock and grief” after the sacking of longtime BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills, according to Jeremy Vine. Back in March, Scott, 53, was let go from the BBC, following allegations regarding his personal conduct. It transpired that the broadcaster had been previously questioned by the police over “sexual serious allegations” against a boy aged under 16, which occurred between 1997 and 2000. The case was dropped due to a lack of evidence. With many confused listeners still left wondering who could be taking Scott’s place, BBC Radio 2’s lunchtime host Jeremy Vine has broken his silence on the sacking of his former colleague, and revealed the words he sent to Scott after he found out the news. Channel 4 has announced that an episode of the celebrity version of Great British Bake Off starring Scott Mills has been pulled from its schedule. A spokesperson for the broadcaster said on Wednesday morning: “Having carefully considered the circumstances, we’ve taken the decision not to air the final episode of the 2026 series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, featuring Scott Mills. “Acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations that have been made against Scott we don’t believe it would be appropriate to air the episode at this time.” They added that an “alternative episode” of Celebrity Bake Off would “go out in its place”. Last week, the BBC announced that the former Radio 2 breakfast show host had been fired from the broadcast, effective immediately. Shortly afterwards, it emerged that Mills had previously been questioned by the police in 2018 as part of an investigation into “allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy”, who was under 16 at the time. A BBC rep later said: “We also recognise …
Scott Mills allegedly stayed in touch with the teenage boy he was accused of committing “serious sexual offences” against for up to eight years. The former BBC Radio 2 DJ was sacked last month after it emerged he was investigated over the alleged “offences” against a boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000. Now, it has been alleged the 53-year-old remained in contact with the boy until around 2006. “A lot of Scott’s friends knew about this lad. Scott stayed in touch with him, and I first heard about him in 2001,” a source told The Sun. They claimed Mills was “friendly” with the boy, like he was with a lot of people”, and that they were “in contact until around 2006.” The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into Mills in 2016. Tyler West is replacing Scott Mills as the host of a new Race Across The World companion podcast. Last month, the BBC revealed that when the new season of Race Across The World launches, it would be accompanied by a video-podcast series diving into the highs and lows of what’s gone on in the hit reality show. Race Across The World: The Detour was originally supposed to be co-presented by Mills, who took part in the second season of Celebrity Race Across The World back in 2024 alongside his now-husband, going on to win the show. However, following the news that he has been fired by the BBC effective immediately, the series will now be hosted by fellow Celebrity Race Across The World alum Tyler West in a last-minute scheduling change. Tyler will be joined each week by Alfie Watts, who won the regular show in 2024. A BBC press release previously teased that The Detour would be Race Across The World’s “younger, wilder sibling, charting the ups and downs of the new series. “Each …
Scott Mills has spoken out for the first time since it was confirmed he had been fired by the BBC and would not be returning to host the Radio 2 breakfast show. On Monday morning, the national broadcaster confirmed that Mills was “no longer contracted and has left the BBC”, following what was initially described in the press as “allegations about his personal conduct”. It later emerged he’d been investigated and questioned by the police almost a decade earlier over “allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy”, who was under 16 at the time. The BBC said on Wednesday: “What we can confirm is that in recent weeks, we obtained new information relating to Scott and we spoke directly with him. As a result, the BBC acted decisively in line with our culture and values and terminated his contracts.” “Separately, we can confirm the BBC was made aware in 2017 of the existence of an ongoing police investigation, which was subsequently closed in 2019 with no arrest or charge being made,” they continued. …
The BBC has issued a fresh statement about the circumstances surrounding Scott Mills’ abrupt firing earlier this week. On Monday, it was confirmed that Mills had been sacked by the BBC effective immediately, due to an allegation about his personal conduct. Following this, it emerged that he’d previously been questioned by the police in 2018 as part of an investigation into “allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy”, who was under 16 at the time. The Mirror alleged on Monday that Mills’ firing came following a complaint made about this police investigation, though the BBC previously declined to comment on whether this was the case. However, on Wednesday afternoon, the BBC offered more information about what led to Mills’ departure from the corporation, clarifying that bosses were already aware of the investigation surrounding the former Radio 2 host as far back as 2017. “Scott Mills had a long career across the BBC, he was hugely popular and we know the news this week has come as a shock and surprise to many,” a …
