I’ve just told her about my promotion at work. She raises her hands in front of her mouth as if to unleash a fearsome howl, but no sound comes out. She scrunches up her nose like a sneezing cat and lets out a hoarse cry. To the uninitiated, she may have seemed distressed — or in need of some urgent medical attention — but in Gen Z-code, I knew she was actually excited for me. This is the Gen Z silent scream: the new behavioral motif used by the young to convey a muted kind of elation. The gesture has been picked apart endlessly online, with many filing it among a growing lexicon …

Scream 7 Star Anna Camp Apologises For Controversial Boycott Repost

Scream 7 actor Anna Camp has apologised for resharing a post about the film’s release that she said did not “reflect” her “personal beliefs”. Shortly after this, the film’s director parted ways with the project, as did Melissa’s co-star Jenna Ortega. After the film hit cinemas, and it was reported to have made around $100 million in its opening weekend, cast member Anna reshared a post from X on her Instagram page, which read: “The boycott didn’t work, the critics’ hate didn’t work, the pathetic leaks didn’t work. “What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.” She accompanied this with a blast of Taylor Swift’s Karma. However, after facing backlash, Anna removed the post and shared an apology. “It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs,” the Pitch Perfect star told her X followers. “I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm.” Anna added: “I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.” Source link

Anna Camp Apologizes for Sharing ‘Scream 7’ Taunt

Scream 7 star Anna Camp issued an apology for a statement she shared on social media that taunted those who protested the new movie in the wake of Melissa Barrera’s controversial departure from the franchise. Camp shared another account’s Instagram story that taunted: “The boycott didn’t work. The critics’ hate didn’t work. The pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.” The story was previously posted by the Scream With Ryan C. Showers podcast (below). On Monday, Camp deleted her post and wrote on X: “It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs. I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.” The boycott is in reference to uproar over Barrera being ousted from Scream 7 in 2023 after appearing in the fifth and sixth movies in the franchise. Barrera wrote social media posts regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict which the film’s production company, Spyglass Media Group, called antisemitic. …

‘Scary Movie 6’ Trailer Gets Political, Playing with ‘Scream 7’

‘Scary Movie 6’ Trailer Gets Political, Playing with ‘Scream 7’

The first trailer for the sixth Scary Movie has been released, and its getting some perfect placement in cinemas: It’s playing ahead of Scream 7. The trailer (below) for the Wayans brothers’ project includes many familiar faces from the previous films, with Anna Faris and Regina Hall — who starred in the first four installments — returning alongside Marlon and Shawn Wayans. While the project has been widely called Scary Movie 6, the official title revealed today is simply Scary Movie. This makes sense as the new film is the first Scary Movie in 13 years, which also gives the latest entry plenty of fresh territory to mock. The trailer teases spoofs of Get Out, the Terrifier films, Megan, Wednesday, and, of course, the Scream franchise — which inspired the first film (along with the original I Know What You Did Last Summer). This might be the first time a film opens in theaters attached to a trailer for a another movie mocking its franchise. The trailer also seems to suggest the film will poke …

‘Scream 7’ Scares Up Record Previews

‘Scream 7’ Scares Up Record Previews

The good news continues for David Ellison’s Paramount less than 24 hours after learning the path has been cleared for the company to buy Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal that has left Hollywood rocked to its core. Despite a franchise-low critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, Scream 7 scored a franchise-best $7.8 million in previews, surpassing previous record-holder Scream VI ($5.7 million) and proving once again why some genres are, to a large degree, review-proof. From Spyglass Media and Paramount, the film expands everywhere today, and will be playing in 3,540 theaters in North America. Overseas, it is rolling out in 52 markets, including Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom, with seven additional markets to follow. (The series does best in English-speaking markets.) Paramount is forecasting a $40 million launch for the the slasher pic, which would mark the best three-day launch of the year to date. Tracking is more bullish, with the National Research Group projecting $45 million. If the leading firm is right, that would supplant Scream VI, …

What films are out in UK cinemas this week? Reviews from The Testament of Ann Lee to Scream 7

What films are out in UK cinemas this week? Reviews from The Testament of Ann Lee to Scream 7

This week marks the release of one of the most ambitious – and, it turns out, divisive – films of the year in the shape of Mona Fastvold’s The Testament of Ann Lee. The sweeping, unorthodox musical is led by a tremendous turn by Amanda Seyfried as the titular founder of the 18th century Shaker religious movement and incorporates a spectacular selection of spell-binding numbers from Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg. It won’t be for everyone – and indeed our official review below lands on the negative side – but we’d recommend seeing this one for yourself, as it evidently fiercely splits opinion. There are plenty of other new releases in cinemas this week as well; including the seventh – somewhat controversial – entry in the Scream franchise, the thrilling Oscar-nominated film Sirat and Baz Luhrmann’s return to the world of Elvis Presley for a new convert film. You can find our reviews for all four of those films below, while you can also discover our lowdown on the other major movies released in UK cinemas …

Scream 7 release date and latest cast news as Neve Campbell returns

Scream 7 release date and latest cast news as Neve Campbell returns

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Scream 7 has had a rocky road to cinema screens – with the controversial firing of Melissa Barrera and the exit of original director Christopher Landon leading to a a creative overhaul of the project. The film now arrives in UK cinemas this weekend and the review embargo has just lifted, so was it worth the wait? Well, that depends on who you ask. At the time of writing, the film sits on just 43 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes after 37 reviews, the weakest score for the franchise in its history. That said, our own Radio Times review came down largely on the positive side, awarding it 3 stars and declaring that despite “faults, plot holes and a dubious ending” the slasher franchise “still has its pleasures”. The film sees original franchise star Neve Campbell (The Lincoln Lawyer) back in the lead role as Sidney Prescott after she sat out the last film due to a pay dispute, while Courteney Cox also reprises her role as Gale …
