Amy Schumer showcases ‘dream home’ with views to die for after selling $11m Brooklyn townhouse she shared with ex

Amy Schumer has offered fans a rare glimpse inside her stunning new New York City home, and it’s every bit as dreamy as she promised. The comedian, 44, took to Instagram on May 7 to share a series of beautifully curated images from her newly designed apartment, revealing a serene, light-filled space that overlooks Central Park’s iconic Reservoir.  Alongside the photos, Amy reflected on the emotional significance of the move, writing: “I’m grateful every single day. Beautiful and filled with love. I know I know but it’s true. I never dreamed I would get to live somewhere like my home.” © InstagramSweeping bay windows framing uninterrupted views of Central Park And it’s easy to see why, the expansive living area is the heart of the home, with sweeping bay windows framing uninterrupted views of the park’s lush greenery and water beyond. Siri Hustvedt on Love and Grief: “There Were Horrible Things in Our Shared Life, But It Wasn’t Horrible Between Us”

Siri Hustvedt on Love and Grief: “There Were Horrible Things in Our Shared Life, But It Wasn’t Horrible Between Us”

The following passage is from the middle of my memoir Ghost Stories, which I began writing a couple of weeks after my husband, Paul Auster, died on April 30, 2024. Our daughter, Sophie Auster, son-in-law, Spencer Ostrander, and grandson, Miles, who was four months old when Paul died, are mentioned, as is my stepson, Paul’s son, Daniel Auster. Daniel died of a drug overdose on April 26th, 2022. He had been released on bail from Rikers after his arrest for the negligent homicide of his ten-month-old daughter, our granddaughter, Ruby. The family did not know that Ruby had died of heroin and fentanyl until Daniel was arrested. Paul was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of 2023. There are many ghosts in this book, some unbearably sad, but others are loving, comic, and full of fun. August has become September, and now this month is also disappearing. Am I in time again, the time I used to take for granted and then lost? An autumn feeling has come to New York City, a new coolness. …

Crooning diplomacy: France, Armenia leaders unite over shared icon Charles Aznavour

Crooning diplomacy: France, Armenia leaders unite over shared icon Charles Aznavour

France’s president donned his crooning hat during a state dinner on Monday, leading Armenian leaders in a rendition of “La Boheme,” the 1965 classic by the late Charles Aznavour, a singer beloved in both countries. Often called France’s Frank Sinatra, Aznavour was born in France to Armenian immigrants, going on to become one of the most iconic voices in French music and a revered figure in the two countries. Aznavour, who died in 2018 at age 94, often served as a cultural bridge between France and Armenia — a role that was on full display at a state dinner held on Monday evening in the Armenian capital in honour of the visiting Macron. In a performance captured in a video posted on social media, Macron launched into a rendition of Aznavour’s classic about youth, love and the passage of time, as he sat behind a piano, microphone in hand. Armenian President Vahagn Khatchatourian stood by his side and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has recently launched his own band, joined in on drums. Read more‘They are …

Shared music listening synchronizes brain activity

Shared music listening synchronizes brain activity

While sharing a musical experience with a friend might not drastically alter your overall enjoyment of a song, it tends to synchronize your brain activity and emotional responses. A recent study published in the journal Cortex has found that listening to music with another person increases the moment-to-moment similarity of subjective pleasure and enhances neural alignment. These findings help explain how music acts as a powerful tool for social bonding and collective emotional experiences. Human beings naturally use music as a social tool to connect with others. From singing lullabies to infants to gathering at large stadium concerts, music helps regulate emotions and foster a sense of group cohesion. The ability of music to align emotions and physical responses among audiences fulfills a basic human need for social connection. Scientists recognize that both music and social interactions activate the brain’s reward centers. This shared activation suggests that the social setting in which people listen to music might alter the fundamental way the brain processes musical pleasure. The mesolimbic reward circuitry, a network in the brain …

Reopened Malay Heritage Centre captures community’s evolution from diverse roots to ‘shared sense of home’: PM Wong

And it is not just about new artefacts and exhibits, even though there are plenty of these, as it goes beyond static displays to offer a wider range of experiences.  Through the centre, visitors can better understand how Singapore’s past shaped who it is today, and how it can guide the country forward. The Malay Heritage Centre is also part of the wider Kampong Glam precinct, one of Singapore’s most historic districts, Mr Wong pointed out, as he encouraged it to continue to work closely with the partners there to keep the area alive and vibrant. The government will support these efforts by working with stakeholders and supporting heritage businesses and cultural activities, he added. He also called on the centre to deepen collaborations across communities, including through cross-cultural programmes and performances that foster greater dialogue and exchange. “Make this a space where culture is not preserved but lived and shared; where more Singaporeans can experience our Malay culture for ourselves, and gain a deeper understanding of our roots and shared identity,” said Mr Wong. …

The pet I’ll never forget: Benny the cat, who climbed into my shopping bag – then shared my baths | Cats

The pet I’ll never forget: Benny the cat, who climbed into my shopping bag – then shared my baths | Cats

I suppose you could say I got Benny from the shops. In 2006, he and his brother ambushed me outside a supermarket in Bahrain. They were trying to climb into the bags of shopping I was carrying to get at the food they could smell. Immediately smitten, I took them in. It was the start of a 16-year relationship that saw Benny and Buster accompany me to Kenya, Qatar, back to Bahrain, then finally to Manchester. I used to say they had seen more countries than most people. I was an advertising creative director and followed the work where I could get it. It was an interesting but lonely life and my new pals, who were about three months old, immediately made a difference. I was besotted with them, but it was Benny, with his endearing quirks, who really stole my heart. I asked an expert trainer how to make the most of a 20-minute walk and he shared this walking workout

When I only have 20 minutes to myself, it can be difficult to choose what to do with the time. Should I commit to doing some cardio exercise, or simply enjoy a stroll in the park? Strength and conditioning specialist Logan Herlihy of Reformed Fitness says you don’t have to choose. Article continues below You may like “Simple walking at a moderate pace is a great way to start, but once you’ve been doing that for a while, it can be beneficial to add more difficulty to your walking workout, without investing significantly more time,” he says. Herlihy draws inspiration from the world-renowned high-intensity interval training (HIIT) researcher Martin Gibala, who says you only need one minute of hard effort to work out effectively. For Gibala’s method, participants would spend approximately 10 minutes on a stationary bike and complete one minute of high-intensity work, using the rest of the time to recover. “Walking is inherently a lower intensity exercise, so I’ve modified the intervals and the rest periods accordingly,” says Herlihy. The internet’s favorite yoga instructor just shared a nine-minute routine for people who sit too much and it was the perfect way to take a break from my desk

I work at a desk, so it’s not unusual to get to lunchtime, or even the end of the day, and realize I’ve spent hours on end sitting. It doesn’t make me feel my best, physically or mentally, and I know I’m not alone. I’d love to make time for a daily workout or long walk, but it’s not always possible. That’s why I’m keen to find small pockets of time to fit in movement where I can.
