Apple Mac Shipments Grew 9% in Q1 2026, Outpacing Overall PC Market

Apple Mac Shipments Grew 9% in Q1 2026, Outpacing Overall PC Market

Apple’s Mac shipments grew 9 percent during the first quarter of 2026, according to estimated shipment data shared this week by IDC. Apple’s growth outpaced overall PC market growth of 2.5 percent thanks to the M5 MacBook Pro that was released late last year. Apple also refreshed the MacBook Air and the higher-end ‌MacBook Pro‌ models, but those were just recently updated and wouldn’t have impacted the Q1 2026 numbers much. Apple was the number four PC vendor in the world with 6.2 million Macs shipped, up from 5.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Lenovo, HP, and Dell were the top three PC vendors with 16.5, 12.1, and 10.3 million PCs shipped, respectively. Most vendors saw an increase in shipments during the quarter according to IDC, with the exception of HP. Apple had a 9.5 percent share of the global PC market during the quarter, up from 8.9 percent in the first quarter of 2025. According to IDC, growth during the quarter was fueled by concerns over rising component costs and new product introductions. Vendors …

Russian Oil Terminals Under Attack Unable to Accept Shipments for Second Week, Sources Say

Russian Oil Terminals Under Attack Unable to Accept Shipments for Second Week, Sources Say

April 3 (Reuters) – Russia’s Baltic oil export hubs at Ust-Luga and Primorsk remain unable to handle shipments after a series of Ukrainian drone attacks, prompting the country’s refineries to find ‌alternative routes for export, ‌industry sources said on Friday. The attacks have damaged port infrastructure and continued through the last two weeks of March, with at least five strikes on Ust-Luga in the space of 10 days. Sources said the export restrictions, along with disruptions at large refineries, could lead to a decrease in oil production in Russia. Traders said refineries have been unable to deliver diesel fuel to Primorsk for export since March 22, leaving refineries in European Russia and Siberia without their most viable export route. “Diesel fuel has not been accepted in Primorsk since Sunday (March 22),” said one industry source. “They have promised to resume accepting delivers to the system.” Traders said refineries were having to consider more expensive rail transport routes to other export terminals. Refineries normally sending deliveries to Ust-Luga have for the past week and half considered …

QatarEnergy Declares ForceMajeure For LNG Shipments Through May, Representing As Many As 90 Cargoes

QatarEnergy Declares ForceMajeure For LNG Shipments Through May, Representing As Many As 90 Cargoes

The already dismal LNG supply situation just got worse. With up to 20% of global LNG flows shuttered due to the ongoing blockade of the Hormuz Strait and the extensive damage of Qatar LNG infrastructure, QatarEnergy has declared force majeure on some of its long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contracts, including ‌for customers in Italy, Belgium, South Korea and China, effectively canceling contractual obligations. That would represent as many as 90 cargoes according to Bloomberg. The move on Tuesday comes amid ongoing production and supply disruptions caused by the United States-Israeli war on Iran. Force majeure is a clause in contracts that allows a party to be excused from its obligations due to unforeseeable events. Petroleum companies in Kuwait and Bahrain have also recently invoked force majeure. Last week, QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi said an Iranian attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility wiped out about 17 percent of the country’s LNG export capacity, causing an estimated $20bn in lost annual revenue and threatening supplies to Europe and Asia. Repairs are expected to take 3-5 …

OPEC+ Agrees To Boost Oil Output As US War On Iran Disrupts Shipments

OPEC+ Agrees To Boost Oil Output As US War On Iran Disrupts Shipments

On Sunday, OPEC+ agreed to boost oil output by 206,000 barrels per day for April just as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and Tehran’s retaliation disrupted oil flows from key members of the producer group in the Middle East. It had debated options ranging from 137,000 bpd to 548,000 bpd, according to five sources. The agreed increase, which brings an end to a three-month pause in production hikes, represents less than 0.2% of global supply. The meeting on Sunday involved only eight members of OPEC+ – Saudi Arabia, Russia, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Iraq, Algeria and Oman. OPEC+ groups the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies like Russia but most production changes in the past years have been done by the eight members. Iran, perhaps understandably, was missing. The eight members raised production quotas by about 2.9 million bpd from April through December 2025, roughly 3% of global demand, before pausing increases for January to March 2026 due to seasonal weakness. OPEC+ has traditionally raised oil output to cushion disruptions but analysts quoted by …

Memory Crunch Will Spark “Tsunami-Like Shock” On Global Smartphone Shipments

Memory Crunch Will Spark “Tsunami-Like Shock” On Global Smartphone Shipments

Readers have been briefed on the emerging global high-bandwidth memory (HBM) supply crunch, driven by soaring data center demand. We have tracked the progression of this theme for months through what seem to be almost weekly developments, ranging from notable institutional research desks and industry insiders to more recent warnings from electronics device companies about looming shortages and price spikes. Now, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), which tracks handset shipments, has issued an apocalyptic warning: the smartphone market is headed for a historic downturn due to a memory crunch. IDC estimates that global smartphone shipments will plunge 12.9% in 2026 to 1.1 billion units, the lowest annual level in over a decade. This outlook is much gloomier than IDC’s November forecast. “What we are witnessing is not a temporary squeeze, but a tsunami-like shock originating in the memory supply chain, with ripple effects spreading across the entire consumer electronics industry,” wrote IDC Vice President for Worldwide Client Devices, Francisco Jeronimo. Jeronimo continued, “The global smartphone market, particularly Android manufacturers, faces a significant threat. …

Singapore’s January exports rise 9.3%, electronic shipments lifted by AI demand

Singapore’s January exports rise 9.3%, electronic shipments lifted by AI demand

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX) rose by 9.3 per cent in January from the same month a year earlier, Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) said on Monday (Feb 16). The increase was led by electronics shipments, which grew 56.1 per cent in January – more than double the previous month’s growth. This was driven mainly by strong AI-related demand and a low base. Export growth was lower than expected, compared with a Reuters poll forecast of a 12.1 per cent increase, and non-electronic NODX fell by 3 per cent. Ms Selena Ling, chief economist and head of OCBC group research, also noted that January’s NODX growth fell short of the bank’s and Bloomberg’s forecasts.  The main drivers of electronic NODX growth were integrated circuits (ICs), disk media products and personal computers (PCs), which were up 80.5 per cent, 70.2 per cent and 24 per cent respectively. “The near-term prognosis for electronics demand, especially semiconductor, remains underpinned by the global upswing for AI, cloud and high-performance computing chip demand,” said Ms Ling.  The decline in non-electronic NODX …

Mexico will pause oil shipments to Cuba : NPR

A driver refuels others wait in a long line behind to fill up at a gas station in Havana, Cuba, Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. Ramon Espinosa/AP hide caption toggle caption Ramon Espinosa/AP MEXICO CITY — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday her government has at least temporarily stopped oil shipments to Cuba, but struck an ambiguous tone, saying the pause was part of general fluctuations in oil supplies and that it was a “sovereign decision” not made under pressure from the United States. Sheinbaum was responding to inquiries on whether the state oil company Pemex had cut off oil shipments to Cuba in the wake of mounting pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump that Mexico distance itself from the Cuban government, though U.S. officials have not publicly requested that Mexico stop the oil. “Pemex makes decisions in the contractual relationship it has with Cuba,” Sheinbaum said in her morning news briefing. “Suspending is a sovereign decision and is taken when necessary.” Sheinbaum’s vague statements come as Trump has sought to isolate Cuba and further ramp …
