Lifestyle blogger Kerry, known on TikTok as Kerriemariehome, shared her “quick and easy” technique, which costs ‘very little’. The video commences with Kerry holding two halves of a lemon, onto which she squeezes a dollop of toothpaste. She then tosses them into the washing machine and initiates a rinse cycle. “I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out,” she states in the clip. “For a quick and easy washing machine clean, just cut a lemon in half, add toothpaste, and throw it into your washing machine to eliminate odours and leave your washing machine absolutely sparkling.” In the caption, Kerry added: “Does your washing machine smell? Sparkle and Status | Jenny Uglow, Daniel Drake

In the Review’s February 12 issue Jenny Uglow enters the “glamorous,” “luminescent,” “spectacular,” “dashing,” “superrich,” “witty and odd,” “high-society pirate’s chest” world of precious gemstones. Starting at a lavish exhibition of some of the treasures of Maison Cartier’s nearly 180-year history of jewelry design, Uglow takes readers from the “many-layered necklace and headpiece of emeralds and diamonds for the maharaja of Patiala” and “a jeweled sarpech…whose feathers of baguette-cut diamonds float up from a great golden-hued ‘tobacco’ stone known as the Tiger’s Eye diamond” to a “scholarly study of gems in the history of European science” by the historian Michael Bycroft, littering the path along the way with emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and pearls. Since 2010 Uglow has written numerous essays for the Review, often on the history of science—on subjects ranging from “the stout, wheezing, pioneering doctor Thomas Beddoes, founder of the Pneumatic Institution” to weather forecasting to volcanoes—but also on Waterloo, Lucian Freud, Quentin Blake, the invention of manners, Kew gardens, and Hilary Mantel. She is the author of a similarly catholic array of books, …

Norland nannies don’t float in on umbrellas, but the modern-day Mary Poppinses are magical in their own right. Having undergone substantial training, nannies like Prince William and Princess Catherine’s employee, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, are well-prepared for the demands of the role, and don’t need a magic carpet bag to do the job… just Norland College.  Graduates from the prestigious university in Bath have gone on to work for prominent families, including the royal household, from Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis‘ nanny Maria to Tiggy Legge-Bourke, former nanny to King Charles‘ sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. “High-profile families recognize the high-level of training our students have. It’s three years, it’s practical, it’s theoretical,” Elspeth Pitman, Norland Nanny and Head of Graduates: Placements, Employment and Alumni, exclusively tells HELLO!. “They can support with the psychology elements; they could support with the care of the child. We teach them about working with the whole family, with other professionals. So their training really is quite extensive. So high-profile families would hopefully choose us for that reputation.” She …
