Eiffel Tower Staircase Segment Heads to Auction in Paris

Eiffel Tower Staircase Segment Heads to Auction in Paris

There was a time when monuments were meant to be visited; now, it seems, they can be owned—at least in parts. A section of the original staircase from the Eiffel Tower will go up for auction in Paris on May 21, CNN reported, offering collectors the chance to take home a fragment of one of the world’s most recognizable tourist attractions. Aspiring bidders will need more than just deep pockets—the estimate is set at $140,000-$175,000—they’ll also need deep real estate. The piece stands nearly nine-feet-tall and spans more than five feet across. Related Articles The lot, handled by Artcurial, comprises 14 steps from the spiral staircase that once linked the tower’s second and third levels. Installed for the monument’s debut at the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the staircase carried visitors skyward for nearly a century before being dismantled in 1983, when elevators replaced the climb. Roughly 20 sections were removed at the time, many of which entered private hands. This example, according to the auction house, has remained in the same collection for more than four decades and was recently restored ahead …

See some of Los Angeles’ best architecture on these staircase walks

See some of Los Angeles’ best architecture on these staircase walks

Here’s another quintessential L.A. walk through the Hollywood Hills’ High Tower neighborhood, the Hollywood Bowl and Whitley Terrace inspired by “Walking Los Angeles” Walk 15. The roughly three-mile route winds through historic neighborhoods with excellent views, incredible century-old homes and (literally) breathtaking climbs along with an intriguing collection of gates and doors. The walk also gives you a chance to admire the Hollywood Bowl without jillions of people milling around (and, if necessary, visit its lovely restrooms without waiting forever in line), but be sure to check the Bowl’s schedule ahead of time. The route won’t be possible when it’s having a concert. Traffic and parking are always a challenge in this part of L.A. and nearly impossible in the High Tower area. I recommend finding a place to park across Highland Avenue on Milner Road because it’s less traveled (and very lovely). One final note: This route has few sidewalks, and those that exist are uneven, so keep an eye open for traffic and trip hazards, which is tougher than it sounds, because there …

Golden Globes 2026 Arrivals Level Up With Dramatic Staircase

Golden Globes 2026 Arrivals Level Up With Dramatic Staircase

The Golden Globes leveled up — literally. When Hollywood steps out en masse for Sunday’s 83rd annual Golden Globes, stars will step up to get inside as the arrivals backdrop is brand new for 2026. In what is already being described by insiders as “the Met Gala-ification” of a night long known as “Hollywood’s biggest party,” there is now a grand staircase built for stars to climb upon arrival. Draped in burgundy carpeting and cascading around a golden champagne-colored platform with floral arrangements hovering above, the scene seems tailor made to boost glamour and create a more elegant experience (with photos to match). Credit for the overhaul goes to global creative agency Unboxed, a firm with offices in L.A., New York and London, and Mark’s Garden for the floral design. “A design centered around curvature and flow,” reads a post shared on Unbox’s Instagram, which features recent projects like the dramatic and lush world premiere for Hulu’s All’s Fair, The White Lotus premiere, the It: Welcome to Derry premiere and a recent Lady Gaga takeover of …

The best staircase walks with ocean views in Los Angeles

The best staircase walks with ocean views in Los Angeles

On this five-mile staircase walk through downtown Long Beach, you’ll spot public art, buildings with rich histories and views of the Pacific Ocean from several angles. The path includes several places to grab a coffee or snack. 1. Start your walk at Bus Shelter F, designated by the F on a large silver column. Walk west toward Pine Avenue. Along the way you’ll notice animal mosaics decorating the ground. The first letter of each animal’s name corresponds with the letter of each bus shelter. Cross Pine and turn left on the street, walking past the historic First National Bank of Long Beach building, which now houses an Italian restaurant on its first floor. 2. Continue north on Pine Avenue until you reach the Pine Square shopping mall. Hang a left at the Johnny Rockets and head to the upper right corner of the mall’s courtyard for your first staircase. Head up 28 steps, and veer left at the top toward the nearby staircase to head down 27 steps. Return to Pine Avenue, where you’ll bear …
