DOJ Re-Adopts Executions By Firing Squad As It Strengthens Federal Death Penalty

The Department of Justice on Friday directed the Bureau of Prisons to expand death penalty protocols to include pentobarbital injections and firing squads as part of broader actions to strengthen the federal death penalty, Fox News reports.  “Today, the Department of Justice acted to restore its solemn duty to seek, obtain, and implement lawful capital sentences — clearing the way for the Department to carry out executions once death-sentenced inmates have exhausted their appeals,” the DOJ memo obtained by Fox News read. “Among the actions taken are readopting the lethal injection protocol utilized during the first Trump Administration, expanding the protocol to include additional manners of execution such as the firing squad, and streamlining internal processes to expedite death penalty cases,” the memo read. US EUROPEAN COMMAND VIA X / VIA REUTERS After the capture of Nicolas Maduro in Caracas on Friday night, January 2, in an operation that stunned the entire world, the United States sought to press its advantage by asserting total control over the region and beyond. On Wednesday, January 7, Washington announced that its forces had seized two oil tankers in the Caribbean Sea and in the northern Atlantic Ocean, both of which were accused of violating the US embargo on hydrocarbons. While the first ship did not display any national markings, the second, which was pursued as far as the waters off Iceland, sailed under the Russian flag. In doing so, the US sent a clear message to Moscow – and indirectly to China and Iran, who also have interests in the region – that Venezuela, and more broadly the American continent, is now their exclusive domain. Washington intends to take control all …

MGM Resorts extends branding deal as MGM China strengthens Macau performance

MGM Resorts International has signed a new long-term branding deal with MGM China Holdings, strengthening the partnership as MGM China continues to post solid financial results. The updated agreement kicks in on January 1, 2026, and will run through the end of Macau’s current gaming concession in 2032. If Macau grants another concession after that, the deal will automatically extend until either that new concession ends or December 31, 2045, whichever comes first. Under the new terms, MGM China will pay a higher monthly license fee, increasing from 1.75% to 3.5% of its adjusted consolidated net monthly revenue, calculated under IFRS standards. The fee will be capped annually based on factors like business volume, in line with Hong Kong Stock Exchange rules. MGM Resorts will receive about two-thirds, or 66.6%, of that fee. MGM China branding agreement will no longer need to be hammered out One big change is that the agreement no longer needs to be renegotiated every three years. That gives MGM China long-term brand stability, while MGM Resorts secures ongoing compensation for …
