Bard President Leon Botstein Talks About Succession Plan: Report

Leon Botstein, whose leadership of Bard College has been questioned after connections with Jeffrey Epstein were revealed, has talked about retiring and moving into another role at the school after a successor is found, according to a report in the Times Union. But no timeline has been set, and the 79-year-old “appears to have no plans of leaving soon,” according to the newspaper. Botstein has met numerous times with Bard students and workers since details about his relationship with Epstein were revealed in February, including at three town halls, a faculty meeting, and a meeting with operations and support staff last week. But he “has characterized his eventual departure as the inevitable consequence of his advancing age,” according to the Times Union. Ann Lauterbach, a professor of languages and literature, told the paper, “My impression is that he will retire on his own clock. I think the most important thing is that he is not going to be forced to retire because of the Epstein files.” Related Articles Botstein’s name appears more than 2,800 times …

Gaston Glock Made the World’s Favorite Gun. His Death Intensified a Succession Drama Fit for Hollywood.

Gaston Glock Made the World’s Favorite Gun. His Death Intensified a Succession Drama Fit for Hollywood.

A few months after the March memorial—in parallel to a posthumous 95th birthday party for Gaston, again leaving out his offspring—Kathrin posted on Instagram. Under the same portrait that had appeared in Ferlach, she wrote in English: “You’ll forever be my rock, my soulmate, my husband and my best friend. Happy birthday my darling! I will always love you. ❤️” Kathrin often dresses in black: close-fitting Gucci jackets, an Alexander McQueen knuckle duster box clutch, Fiorentini + Baker leather biker boots. On social media, where she posts regularly, Kathrin once responded to the suggestion that she resembles the bad guy in a James Bond film with “I’m not a villain…🤣👍😉” Kathrin married Gaston in 2011, when she was in her early 30s and he was over 80, just after he had divorced his wife of decades, Helga, with whom he had built the company. At Kathrin and Gaston’s wedding, the maid of honor was a woman named Inge Unzeitig, then 76, who is the proprietor of the Hotel Palais Porcia, at the eastern end of …

I almost quit Succession after Episode 3 — finishing was one of my best TV decisions

I almost quit Succession after Episode 3 — finishing was one of my best TV decisions

Generally speaking, if you don’t like a TV show from the first episode, watching further on faith that it might improve doesn’t make much sense. There are other shows to watch and other things to do. And yet, you’ll sometimes hear some TV snob insist that this or that show only gets good half a season in, or two seasons in, or whatever, and that it’s worth it to soldier on. This is one of those times. While I’m usually loathe to recommend someone sit through a few episodes of a show that isn’t entertaining them, there can be more to the story. Because if I hadn’t pushed through the first few dour hours of HBO’s high-powered business drama Succession, I wouldn’t have experienced one of the best TV series of the 21st century. The first episode of Succession isn’t terrible… …but it might be the worst episode of the show Succession is about the incredibly wealthy Roy family. The patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), runs Waystar Royco, a massive media company. His adult children …

“The Murdochs” is a messier “Succession”

“The Murdochs” is a messier “Succession”

Quoting what may be Russian literature’s most famous line is a little trite, I’ll admit. Since we’re talking about “Dynasty: The Murdochs,” I’m going to chance it anyway, because I doubt Leo Tolstoy could have conceived of the Murdochs when he wrote, “each unhappy family is unhappy in their own way,” any more than he could have mapped out the Roys’ arc on “Succession.” Hell, most Old Testament patriarchs aren’t as demanding of loyalty and filial supplication as Rupert Murdoch, save for God himself. We know this because the Murdochs’ family squabbles spilled into the news, late-night monologues and the figurative streets of social media at the height of their struggles. The public eagerly took it all in because the Murdochs are one of the richest families on the planet, and one of the most easily detestable, led by a man who shapes the political discourse and Western democracy in ways that best suit his empire’s bottom line. “Succession” was incredible, but watching life both imitate and build on its art was better. And as …

Every Commonwealth country that backs removing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession

Every Commonwealth country that backs removing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains eighth in line to the throne, despite a string of scandals relating to his friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.  Removing him from the line of succession would require an Act of Parliament approved by all 14 realms of the Commonwealth, where King Charles is the head of state. It would need to be approved by MPs and peers before being given royal assent by the King. Australia, Canada and New Zealand have led the way in speaking out, backing the removal of the former Duke of York. Jamaica, and the Bahamas are among the others that would need to support it. Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are the other Sovereign states needed to back it. On Monday, the royal family is set to attend the annual Commonwealth Day service in Westminster Abbey. This year, it will be attended by senior royals, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess …

Canadian prime minister backs Andrew’s removal from line of succession | UK News

The Canadian prime minister has joined a growing list of Commonwealth leaders backing the removal of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession. Mark Carney, who previously served as the governor of the Bank of England, condemned the former prince’s behaviour as “deplorable” and said his actions “necessitate” his removal. While the Canadian prime minister acknowledged the possibility of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor – who is eighth in line to the throne – becoming King was small, he believed it was a “point of principle”. The arrest of the former prince last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office reignited calls for him to be formally removed from the royal line of succession. Succession legend stars in first-look trailer for quirky new comedy drama

Sky has released the first trailer for Succession and Pride & Prejudice star Matthew Macfadyen’s new comedy-drama The Miniature Wife. Based on the short story written by Manuel Gonzales, the series follows a married couple who’re left with quite a big (little) problem when Les (Macfadyen) accidentally shrinks his wife in a technological mishap. The show, which stars The Hunger Games’s Elizabeth Banks as Les’s wife Lindy, examines the “power (im)balances between spouses after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis,” according to the official synopsis. The new trailer gives fans a first look at how this accident occurs, as Les (MacFadyen) is shown developing a new technology that he hopes will line him up for a Nobel. “I am creating the bio-agritech that will change the world. I call it the miracle of miniaturisation,” he says in the footage. But what he doesn’t expect it to do is shrink his wife, who gets in the way of an experiment and suffers the effects herself. “So this is my tiny little life now”, she …

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faced with biggest hint yet that he will be removed from line of succession

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faced with biggest hint yet that he will be removed from line of succession

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing the biggest hint to date that he could be removed from the line of succession.  The disgraced former Prince, 66, was visited by Richard Benyon, the Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household, on Monday. Lord Benyon was seen visiting Andrew at Wood Farm, the former Duke’s temporary home on the Sandringham estate, for around two hours, before driving out of the estate. Lord Benyon has served as Lord Chamberlain of the Household since 2024, replacing ex-MI5 Director General Lord Parker of Minsmere. The former Conservative MP is effectively head of the Royal Household and the main channel of communication between the monarch and the House of Lords, involved with arranging the state opening of Parliament and other administrative projects.  As an Act of Parliament is required to alter the line of succession, it could signal that talks are underway. However, what was discussed has not been confirmed.   King Charles, meanwhile, has been staying at the Royal estate since Friday, but is not thought to have seen Andrew in the last …

Kim Jong Un fuels succession buzz with daughter’s matching leather jacket

Kim Jong Un fuels succession buzz with daughter’s matching leather jacket

He said North Korea would continue to take the “toughest stand” against the U.S., but that if Washington dropped its demands for denuclearization, “there is no reason why we cannot get on well.” That leaves the door open for the resumption of diplomacy. President Donald Trump, who met with Kim three times during his first term, has expressed interest in another face-to-face. Kim had more contentious words for U.S. ally South Korea, describing it as his country’s “most hostile” relationship. He dismissed South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s recent efforts to improve relations, saying the North could “launch any action” if Seoul threatened its security and that its neighbor risked “complete collapse.” The South Korean government said Thursday that it would continue to pursue its policy of peaceful coexistence. Earlier in the week, Kim was re-elected general secretary of the Workers’ Party. His reappointment reinforces that “even amid domestic and external crises, there is no alternative to Kim Jong Un’s leadership,” Lim said. For Kim, the party congress is also an opportunity to reinforce the …
